I do appreciate that I have four ways to run this Smart Generator. A manual start with a pulley, an instant electric start, app start, and an auto-start.
This ties in perfectly in my home system. Now I can charge my Delta Pro automatically with this Smart Generator.
Thanks for your thorough review of this generator. The replies to the comment section is great also. I have not seen a review this in-depth on RUclips this far. Keep up the great work
Thanks Lamar
I appreciate you watching and subscribing to the channel
Happy New Year 🎊
Let's face it. It's a generator and works the same as all other generators. What makes this stand out to me is it's made to compliment their battery and that app. Kind of pricey though. I looked on their site and the gas only model is not for sale although it is listed. It's a nice genny but I think it will mainly be purchased by those who have one of their battery power supplies so they can take advantage of that simple auto-start feature. For those who are not using an EcoFlow power station, one of the many other generators you have demonstrated would be a better choice, especially for RVing. Mainly for the outlet choices on the control panel. All of this, of course, is in my opinion. As usual, an excellent video!
Thanks Tom
Very insightful comment on point as usual 👍🏾👌🏾😊💯
An advantage of the EcoFlow branded generator is the DC charging. If I use a Honda 2200, I will be losing some power with conversions from DC to AC and AC to DC. Arguably less efficient. But I will be sticking with my Honda 2200 because it is highly reliable and mine has been converted to tri-fuel. But if it failed, I would be looking at this EcoFlow generator IF I can convert it to run on natural gas.
@@natehowe7975 The same conversion is taking place in the EcoFlow as well to O/P DC from the built in inverter.
If you check out the testing on Jasonoid’s channel, he found it was about 10% more efficient when recharging through the DC connection. That’s what I was basing my comment on. Thanks for the feedback, I am curious to keep learning about this stuff.
totaly agreed....
this is nothing new..
solar is the future
and all this dual fuel stuff is the true back ups...
when there is no sun available...
or over cast.
Great video… always do three slow pulls for oil to protect cylinder walls against metal on metal contact. Whether you pull start or electric start to prolong engine life… don’t you agree… also, I always measure out my oil to prevent overfill and spillage… again, great video…
I agree ☝🏽
Gavin, I'll bet you are very popular with your neighbors when the city power goes out! 😀 Great video, I didn't even know about this brand. Very interesting!
Most of my neighbors have no idea about this!😆
This is what I would call a game changer for gas generators. Now I can run it longer since I can use propane whenever I run out of gas.
The best part about this Smart Generator is that it has a carbon monoxide detector which is not available on other high end gas generators.
You'd be fine in Florida, but there are couple of real-world limitations for using this as an auto-recharge system in cold (freezing) temperatures. One is the fact that it immediately loads up after start-up, without any warm up period. Secondly the oil is 10w-40 right? That's even more trouble for cold weather. Lastly, if that starter battery is Li chemistry it will be damaged in freezing conditions....so as a back up for an ice storm power outage this system is unrealistic. Ecoflow should be motivated to as a minimum update the software to allow a warm-up period, and since the schematic does show a temp sensor linked to the ignition circuit that problem should be solvable.
Hey Bruce
That’s a great point about a warm up timer for the first five minutes of this generator before loading up and charging the smart batteries👍🏾 great idea
The lithium battery will only be damaged if charged below freezing; it can still discharge to start the genset. I wonder if they use a low temperature sensor to prevent charging until the battery has warmed up from the engine's waste heat. And you can always run 5W40 or even 0W40 if storing in very cold conditions.
Agreed 100% on the lack of a warm-up period. Quite bizarre they missed that one. Hopefully they can fix it with a firmware update.
It's probably a Lifepo4 4s pack. And shouldn't be damaged when discharged. Only charging is the issue and even that is kinda solved in newer packs . U would have replaced two or three leadacids before this gets damaged from occassional charging at below freezing
I like the propane version. One propane tank can give 16kwh…that’s awesome
I do love the fact that it has a 20kWh capacity with standard LPG tank for worry-free backup power when I need it.
Great video, thank-you
Thank you for all the great information. Love this channel.
Thanks Dennis
Another great video. Keep them coming.
One bit of info to contribute: ecoflow has confirmed that the runtime counter does not work when using propane and there’s no fix for that in the works as of July 2024.
👍 Nice job, thanks.
Gavin , Love the Channel, when you test the units and hook up the Tablet Oscilloscope, where do you connect the probes for your readings, and are the 10X probes sufficient for the 120 Volts , from the instructions it sounds like I need to buy the 100 Mhz probe separately. I need to test the sine wave output on my personal Genset so this would help me a lot.
Try charging the Delta Pro or a Power Kit (like me) while also running an AC appliance of some sort from the Delta Pro or Power Kit. You will find that the generator becomes not so smart -- the AC charging from the generator will shut down as will the AC output from the Pro/Power Kit. So, charging by AC and using AC output simultaneously is not possible with anything other than a trickle level AC output. This is a major flaw in the power handling of Ecoflow products and diminishes the "smart" aspect of the generator.
If you use DC to DC charging from the generator then you can run AC appliances simultaneously -- but be aware that you need an adapter that is NOT supplied with the generator. I happened to have received an adapter with my Delta Pro, but not with either of the 2 much more expensive Power Kits (15kWH each). Then also be aware that you are forced to give up one of your battery ports. On my Power kits, that means giving up 5kWh of storage.
These limitations are unacceptable for equipment of this cost. And it is inexcusable for Ecoflow not to include the adapter with the generator.
Amazing, thank you very much.
Strange that in all of the RUclips review of this generator, the generator do not start itself with the electric start on propane... Did you figure out why or did Ecoflow provided you the solution?
i shold be able to use this generator for my ecoflow delta 2 max right?
Good video, particularly for a guy who bought a Delta Max with a 400W solar panel and is now mulling over charging options. But in your video I didn't hear explicitly WHAT TYPE of oil the generator takes - 10W40 is a good guess, but is that it?
Thanks and please follow up sometime with a review for the gadget that hooks up a Delta Pro to an EV charger - I desperately need EcoFlow to do that for the Max at some point.
Yes they recommend 10w40
The Delta pro has a special port I think they called The Infinity Port that takes that Eevee charger adapter. None of their lesser models can do that at this point which is sad because I would really love to go one step down so I'm not lugging 100 lb around all the time to the Delta 2 max and be able to stop at a charger and top off while I'm road tripping if I haven't had a chance to deploy solar panels
The only downfall for me is the max output can’t exceed the input in pass thru mode. If I can pass 3600 watt through it in passive mode, it means I can constantly have the EcoFlow pass thru my entire house and kick in when power goes out. I know, I’m describing a power wall.
I've heard (not tried, I only have a DP but not the smart gen) ..That because it's charging on DC, the pass thru mode does not engage, and you use the DP as you would if it were unplugged, IE it'll run the full 3600. Granted, doing so for long periods will run you outta battery even with the generator on eventually, but it apparently can be done!
I have two ecoflow pros so I think this generator might be better because it has remote start and it could charge both ecoflow pros at the same time: GENMAX GM3500iAED 30 Amp 3200W/3500W Remote Start Dual Fuel Inverter Generator
Thank you for a very informative video.
Thanks 😊
If I have a ecoflow, gas only, generator outside and use a 12gauge ac extension cord ran into the ecoflow delta pro inside my camper (hooked to the ac power), when the delta pro gets below 30%, will it kick on the generator? ...or does it need to use the dc to dc cord to auto start at less than 30% (or whatever you set autostart % to in the app)
You have to use the DC to DC communication cable in order for that feature to work?
Is there a longer extension cord for the connecting cable that goes to the Delta Pro? I'm thinking of leaving the generator outside and the Delta Pro inside safe from the sun and rain.
They only have the one size, they should seriously consider a 25 foot option
It is my understanding that this cable size is coming soon however someone finally made a diy cable on Facebook
One thing that does not come with the generator is the DC adapter for the ecoflow pro.
Did you run the yellow cord into a 30 or 50 amp adapter plug ?
I plugged it into a 50 amp adapter
Can you turn on the generator with the app on your phone? They should’ve added some wheels to the generator
Yes, you can start it from the app and it should have wheels they made everything the same except for the wheels
What is the max the External battery can put out in Watts?
I believe its 1800w
Honda is very similar in price. So this unit is quieter and has more bells and whistles, but it is not a Honda. Tough decision.
If you read reviews this generator runs at much higher rpm to achieve its ratings. It would seem logical that it would be louder due to the increased rpm's. Also, some of the reviews I have seen on you tube find this generator much louder than it is rated at. I have the dual fuel version and it is louder in lp mode than the 2000 watt Honda and the 4000 watt Predator generator I have been next to while camping. Point is can't believe anything Ecoflow states.
Can you hook up two batteries on the Delta pro and then use this generator to charge all three pro batteries.?
Unfortunately not only on battery can plus the generator
@@GeneratorReviews what.?
@John Car you can use the 115 volt plug to charge the system, but you lose all smart functions.
How much kv produce in one cylinder.?
Are you asking about the propane tank?
👍 ✌
👍🏾👌🏾😊💯
Can it charge the delta pro extra battery only without the main unit?
Yessir you can charge the smart battery by itself.
@@GeneratorReviews can you demonstrate that on an upcoming video to show people thank you again for taking the time to demonstrate how everything works
@@GeneratorReviews And also can you confirm that it works with the Delta 2?
Can you confirm that it works with the Delta 2?
I will definitely check it out
As you probably know by now, it does
yep the guy below me tominga5855.. is correct.
this is nothing new....
its just like all the other ones....
the only thing they did do right is the solar ones
and i got 3 of those from ecoflows
solar power is our future
the dual fuel ones are the true back ups when there is no sun availible. an over cast.
Will this communicate with the Delta MAX? Or just the PRO?
Both!
@@bruceeverett5372 Delta 2?
@@mdunbar04 Max and Pro for sure, beyond that IDK. I have the Max with SmartGen
Delta 2 and pro I’ve tested
@@GeneratorReviews You didn't confirm that it worked with the Delta 2 or not, you stated that you tested them, I don't know if you did a video of it or not, but please confirm that it does or doesn't work with the Delta 2.
👍❤️🙏
Thanks 😊
