Thank you. Very informative. About 10 years ago I needed a durable bag for a trip to Japan and voluteer work, so I bought the main pack and it's 27l 3-day pack. I ended up not using it for JP though. The 3-day pack have served me well. I have used it almost daily, but I really need a bigger for different things, so I'm about to buy the Medic pack. those small packs will serve me well on LAN parties and smaller travels. Your Recon Assault vs Medic Assault helped me there!
Just bought the recon set. It also included the sustainment pouches. Going to use it for me and my wife's bug out bag and camping. Thanks to your video, it was an easy choice.
I believe that not many Marines knew that the aluminum frame bars were malleable and could be bent to bring the hip belt into the body while wearing body armor. Overall, the FILBE is a better system for military use
I am having issues with my ILBE (Reg, not recon) pack lid. When I pull the top drawstring closed, and then fold over the lid, the front edge of the lid slides back over the top of the frame ends, exposing the top of the pack that its supposed to cover. Is this common, or a design issue? Thanks, Great video.
love ur vids on the ILBE system, sir. I've been so grateful. this is the only video in the whole youtube talks and shows about ILBE Recon main pack. personally I've using this system about a year now and I love this pack so much(not the recon version). I use it mostly for backpacking trips and it is so comfortable and well distribute the weight off my shoulders. this ILBE system is very modular and so versatile. there are so many ways you can modify it for your own needs just like the ALICE pack. thank you for your explanation between those two. but one thing also different is the side compression straps. female buckles are on the side of beever tails in the recon, right? but the female buckles on the non recon main pack are on the side of back panel. could you understand what I'm saying? I've been thinking using the side zips are little bit tricky because of the compression straps. I believe there was a kind of marine feedback and the improvements on this pack. anyway after watching your clips over and over I really want to get the recon ILBE, too lol
I no longer have the recon main pack so I don't have the tail to see the clips. I do know that the tail is made with some built-in slack so that a stuffed recon assault will fit under the tail. If I remember correctly, you can spin the tail around and snap it in and not have as much slack.
Hi your films are great for info thanks i have a AP803 corpsman's assault pack it is a bring back from Afgan i located in the uk. user has modified it in the field, my problem is that the plastic rear panel and aluminium stays are missing which causes it to slump out when worn I've been looking on ebay and google for images of the recon assault or corpsman's panel but can't find any. i am located in the UK so these are even rarer over here. would it be possible for you to slide out and take me some pictures / measurement s of the back panel so i can make one also i guess the rods must fix to it somehow please reply thanks for your time simon smith leicester england i can send you a payment if necessary
I haven't been able to get my hands on any of the ILbe packs lately. the packs will occasionally show up on lejeune yard sales. you may want to look there.
Ok. I didn't even know there were 2 packs like this, I have the non recon.. I love the bag, only thing is wish it had a zippered sleep system separate pocket, One kinda has to unload everything to get sleep system out of the bottom.
The recon assault will mate up with the standard ILBE main pack but not perfectly. The clips on the recon assault appear to be about 2 inches farther apart than the standard assault but the clips will reach. I did try it to make sure.
I don't think there is any difference in the aluminum stays. I no longer have the recon main pack so I can't measure but I don't believe there is a difference in the length.
Thank you. Very informative.

Thank you for your video. Just got mine not long ago and I am figuring how the beaver tail of the Recon ILBE works. Appreciate for sharing. Cheers
10 years later this helped me out! 😆
Glad you posted this. I didn't know there was a difference. Now I know what to look for.
Thank you for watching.

EXCELLENT video. Great demo and information.
Understood what you meant, will try again with the label upright. Thank you for your reply.
Apart from the dust cover, are they identical in size?
Nice video !
I didn't know that there were 2 versions.
Other than what you noted, what is the difference in price ?
I was so happy when we got rid of those bags and got issued the FILBE...

according to Wikipedia difference is capacity, recon main pack is 90 Liters main is 75 liters
Have you tried putting the tail in with the print on the white label upside down?
Thanks for your comments.
Just curious where you got your USMC ILBE recon from been looking for one for a while they're hard to come by
Luck mostly or there sre a few on Ebay right now for about $700
Where do the two female clips on the top of the Recon tail go? I don't see a male clip near there that would attach.

Do you have either of these available at this time?
If so, price, and what do they come with?
What condition?

@@hanbys , I'm 4 hrs away, but would travel if needed.
You get anything in future, please let me know, and thanks for prompt reply.
@@dennismoore4642 just saw a new main pack and assault pack on Facebook market place Jacksonville NC.

I know what you mean that is why I like the CFP-90 and the current FILBE better than the ILBE.
Is the recon pack suppose to have a flap over the draw strings?
No flap, just the lid cinches down over the draw strings and dust cover.
Will the Recon Assault pack mate up with the standard ILBE Rucksack? Also, will a 2 qt canteen fit into the pockets at the base of the ruck?
Thanks

hanbys Yes, I would say that a 2 quart would fit in the bottom pocket of a recon assault pack .
hanbys Thank you very much!
Does the recon bag have a gun scabbard
Is there a difference between the length of the stays on the recon? Are the stays longer on the recon than the other main bag?
I don't think there is any difference in the aluminum stays. I no longer have the recon main pack so I can't measure but I don't believe there is a difference in the length.
Does anyone know if the Lid of the REGULAR ILBE Main Pack will fit and work on the Recon ILBE Main Pack? THANK YOU.
Yes
is it worth buying the larger recon pack..I already own the ilbe gen two.
+John Dowd good question, what's your thoughts on the ILBE?
Actually I own two but wondered if the recon pack was that much bigger.
Where did you get those pack?! They look to be in EXCELLENT condition! Great video as well, very informative!
Thanks Jonathan. I live near Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point Marine Corps Base and I find them on the Craigs List mostly.
Thanks for watching.
Well put together,thank you.
Great video!
Good stuff.. but just use a tripod.. it ll be so much easier!
Made in Canada for the USMC
Main difference is the price. Apparently if you put the word recon in front of a title its worth 200 more USD. 😄
Thanks for watching.
