    I'm from Durban, I cannot walk around the CBD during the day. First time I went to Cape Town I genuinely thought I had left South Africa by mistake. The fact I could walk around alone and be completely safe made me almost cry. Cape Town is what my country should have been.

    I use to stay in Cape Town about 5 years ago, I also use to walk at night, go shopping at 10pm or to the garage to grab some smacks at 2 am. It is relatively safe in the CBD and city bowl compared to Johannesburg and Pretoria. I recently moved from Pretoria to Johannesburg.

I visit Durban often but will not want to live there again. Cape Town is something else altogether, Joburg, Pretoria and Durban cannot compare. Lived here all my life. Your safety all depends upon where you walk (obviously). The bar / club / restaurant areas, safer - but watch out for your usual pick pockets, etc.
    The quieter areas, particularly side streets and areas that are usually used for day-time trading, commuting, etc. - those areas are more risky as you will stand out like a sore thumb.
    To be honest though, there probably aren’t any reasons why foreign tourists (especially) would actually need to be in those areas at night.
    I’d happily walk around any part of the Cape Town city Centre during the day though, and I do quite a lot. Some areas you have to keep your eyes open more than others, but the Cape Town CBD is probably the safest CBD out of all of the major city centers in SA.

A bit of useless trivia for anyone not familiar with this piece of history…even then, Loop street never came close to Loop street that was the happening spot a few years earlier (ie there was virtually no night scene on Long street as everything was happening in Loop Street and Waterkant) eg Comic Strip, Gecko Lounge, Club DoMe, Deviate, Playground, Stage, Crow Bar, McSweeneys, Browns, etc

I booked myself a regular room at a Backpacker's (Urban Hive), you passed along the way. I'd just sit on the balcony & take in the street vibe. Loop Street is the party strip in the CBD; Kloof Street is more for eateries. You definitely hit the right spots in the city, for a night out!

    One interesting fact about Cape Town is that it was built by the Dutch, French and Germans who made the hybrid we call Afrikkaners today. Hence you can see the French influence with Wine farms and building that look like New Orleans. The people living in Bo-Kaap(colourful Buildings) are the descendants of the slaves that were taken from Malaysia and other Asian countries hence are called Cape Malays.

    • @agrid2608
      @agrid2608 Год назад +17

      Truth is the British are far more responsible for building Cape Town and the rest of SA, than the Dutch.
      Despite being a refreshment station for the Dutch East India Company the truth is the colony and its economy only seriously kicked off under British rule from the late 1700s.
      Even Johannesburg although being in the so-called Boer republics was catalyzed by "Anglo" economic activity.

    I use to go to all the clubs in Cape Town in my younger years . Those were the good old days in the eighties and early nineties.

      @@pelomk9022 look at the state of the Nation under 30 years of ANC leadership. It’s a fucking mess. SAA , ESKOM , Railways, Police, Crime, corruption at its best , filthy , Public service does hardly exist. Economy flat, Monopoly money 💰, industry is a joke and illegals from all around the world. JOBS , Water problems. Yes APARTHEID Was way better. But then again what do I care . I’m one of those that got away long ago . So enjoy your shithole.🤣

    The CBD where the night clubs and bars are pretty safe , elsewhere not much so.

    I’m amazed by the amount of people that think CPT CBD is unsafe,bro you could literally walk at 1am looking for a place to eat . Strictly in the CBD though.
