Stuart, I'm sorry to hear about your illustration gig going away. Something similar happened to me after the pandemic and I was truly upset about it. Interestingly, other opportunities have revealed themselves to me and I am now making more money, working less, and feeling much more fulfilled by my new work than I ever was before. Sometimes change is forced upon us to reveal something better that was there all along! I wish you the best in all your endeavors my friend!
Well said. Couldn’t agree more!
@@dshepherd107 You said it a lot better than I was going to. More diplomatic as well. Stuart is too kind, I would have had colorful words.
Thank you for NOT having music playing in the background while painting for these videos.
My wife and I have a family member with the same health condition that you mentioned. She has had it for decades - and is still plugging away. Hope that helps. Always love your videos - and you. Thank you for sharing. Cheers.
Stuart, I find it very touching that you talk to us openly as friends. Have just signed up for your Saturday Zoom class. I look forward to painting along with you! Always enlightening!!
I like this approach to creating ...loose, free and kinda not caring too much about the outcome! Brilliant session Stuart
Watching a master push beyond what is expected… great watching
2 minutes in. here comes the sky! Love it.
I thoroughly enjoy learning from your videos, they are all so very helpful, and I like the commentary from a very real person. Smiles.
Really like this lesson showing how to redeem a hidden mess and turn it into a beautiful painting. Thank you Stuart!
Hi Stuart, excellent as always and if you do a part 2 I will be here and would even watch for more than an hour. I like the reddish spot in the clouds and the bright one behind the trees on the left, as if the moon behind the clouds is casting light on the fields below. I like the "illusion of detail", the landscape that has good depth with the sky and earth almost blending together. I'm curious if and what you would change about it. - Thank you, your wonderful painting provides diverting entertainment, time flies and suddenly it's over. Be blessed, and take good care of your health, it is the most precious thing a living soul can call his or her own. 👍🧡
Hello Stuart, It is so wonderful to see you at home and healthy painting.
God Bless you, Stuart!
Brilliant as always. Such a breathtaking painting!!!
No kidding. This one is a gem.
Thankyou for the lesson Stuart! So so talented 🤍
You succeeded in making
lemons into lemonade with this lesson …
Quite masterfully ! …
Bravo !! 👏👏
So excited to see new painting added. Thanks so much. And great to see you too!! This is real breakfast treat here in NYC.
this is a brilliant reuse of the canvas, and the purple in the stormy sky looks absolutely amazing - can't wait to see what part 2 brings! Thank you again Sir for taking the time to share your gifts!
Looking forward to part two, even part three if you wish. I like the stroke by stroke and the chat along with it. I am very encouraged to apply some of your techniques and casual looseness to my own artwork. Thanks Stuart!
Beautiful.
Very beautiful! I really like how the sky merges with the ground again and again. Also how these clouds emerge in this sky. Wonderful!!! Thank you a lot for sharing!
Really enjoyed this video. the sky is exceptional. Thanks as always
So atmospheric,love it Stuart! ❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was an evening well spent:)) Thank you Stewart........
Amazing lesson 👏
Your words, " don't worry about it" and "why not" give me a lot of courage. As a new (3 months now) painter, I have been amazed at what I have been able to accomplish. I have a lovely painting with a vivid sky and big bluffs near the bottom. Your tone of voice as I listen to your videos, calms me and gives me the sense that I can move forward. This particular video is giving me the sense of sky/ground so that I will move from my computer to my easel. Thank you so very very much for sharing yourself and your experience with we viewers.
Love it. Thank you.
One of the best pieces of advice that I've ever received is "stop worrying about things that I can't control". Take care of your health but you have to live life. Best wishes.
Painting got me through the insanity of the past three years. I've painted more in the last 3 years, than the 3 years I spent working on my MFA. P.S. I prefer cheap bristle brushes, as well. They leave the best brushstrokes, paint break, marks, and textures. Thanks for the interesting lessons. PS. Be careful with the diuretics and stay hydrated.
Great lesson as always. Thank you for sharing
Thanks for sharing not just your art but journey too x
Wow~ Fantastic work, very touching work~^^💛💛💗💗💗💗
Stuart I have been in bed with Covid for 5 days. Watching your work has lifted my spirits and inspired me to get back to painting as soon as I have the energy. So thank you. You are a godsend to me. Paint On!
I hope you get better soon!
I learn something from every part of your videos. Not bored - just busy learning.
Truly enjoyed watching you paint! I paint with oils mostly but get “stuck”! Thank you for the inspiration!
Good to hear you again.
Because of you, I'm painting more then ever! You are so humble and such a great teacher. In fact, I'll be building a studio in my back yard very soon, before summer that is..I just retired and also I'm a solo guitarist and singer here in Kauai Hi. Painting and music, what a life. Thank you Stuart, I wish you good health brother! Aloha!🤙❤️🙏
Thank you so much for your sharing this with us; best wishes for your continued health improvement and I chuckled at your reference to happy accidents…that show was my intro to painting as a kid and I love it to this day.
I did a seascape of the Cliffs of Dover, which I sent you, using your palette knife technique for the clouds. I think they are the best clouds I have ever done. Thank you.
I think painting takes courage. I'm always nervous when I'm trying something new. Your videos really help me to not take it so seriously. Thank you for all your videos!
I love your style. Beautiful and easy to follow.
I have to say thank you! I did a landscape on a board I saved from the dumpster leftover from the ceiling in my hay barn. I showed it to a friend who asked how I got the gorgeous detail in my clouds! I told her I watched your videos!
I missed the release! It has been a busy day today and now what a treat - I get to watch you, relax and paint! Interesting painting you bought - lovely - I still lean more to your work though. Cheers my friend - stay healthy and happy and hope to see another video soon! 👍
My favorite part of this painting is the last half hour. Loved what you did on the landscape at the very end. I must try that! One of the most beautiful paintings I have seen!! So interesting
Watching you at 4am est and just love your painting style...cheers mate
I want to say congratulations on the opportunity that you have. Don’t worry about the old job. Being a full time RUclips artist will probably be a great deal of work but one day soon you will look back and see how rewarding and satisfying your life has become.
To answer your question, I never mind if your videos go longer than an hour. In fact I enjoy longer ones. I can always pause and come back if needed. I have also found interesting the details you shared about how RUclips works, it's requirements and what things we can do to support your channel.
A few years ago I was forced to retire. I had been working part-time which is really wonderful, but when I became fully retired the world became my oyster! Retirement is sublime. My schedule is my own, what I want to do, when I want to do it, etc. has become my decision. Granted the finances become an issue sometimes, but there again, that's my choice. I currently paint almost every day, at any time of the day I choose. I always look forward to your videos and to listening to you chat with your fans. I for one, have learned much from you through your videos. You create from nothing and then suddenly there is magic! I wish you well and may you enjoy each day as each one is a special gift.
Good morning my friend very beautiful work ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I am particularly enamored with how you painted this sky! I also saw you use a couple techniques Naughton must use as well to get that sweeping sky effect. I’m excited to try it. Really like that mix of colors you had on the brush in the beginning, that gives that understated, yet still striking point of interest in the area where your uppermost clouds are. Really sets off the rest of the sky brilliantly.
Thank you for uploading!
I’m happy to see you painting more, & am grateful you’re willing to share your skills. I for one feel fortunate to be a patron & have no intention of stopping. Looking fwd to this Saturday’s Zoom Class🙂
I like your music!
Thank you so much for your latest video! I would be really happy to watch a 3 part one on the same painting. Part of the fascination is watching it come into being and wondering what you'll decide to do next. I find myself talking out loud to you about this or that section just before you work on it!
Thankyou for your video l enjoyed it very much keep well we need you
Another master class on doing what you love and it ending up being something that you love.cyour confidence is amazing and it shows. Im always so stressed when I paint and I need to fix that.
Sir Davis
As usual the gift of your talented art and kindness won't be determined by some irresponsible greed by some of those whom weren't able to appreciate your valuable work but I'm sure that there are so many real people who's sharing the same feelings with me that you're treasurer to all of us who appreciate the beauty of your art and respect the kindness of your nature that always been giving to everyone more than taking and that is enough to assure you that the coming days will bring you the best for you that yet been wanting to get back to you because we all owed to you and we all sooner or later are coming to be your real students online or in person and I can see it happening in the near future so please keep your faith in us because we are your global family,،❤️❤️❤️
Great stuff! Reminds me of El Greco in the drama and palette
Stuart, I feel for you. I worked for Steelcase which manufacturers office furniture for 25 years. 12,000 employees in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The company was privately owned and was forced to go public. The Ceo's job was to cut heads. As a result, 10,000 people were let go. The company then moved to Mexico. He is now head of Ford Motor Car Co. I was 51 years old. I took 2 years off then went into teaching and worked for the Post Office until I was 67. I also bought houses and rented them out. Retired from the work force and just paint and watch your videos. You, with your brilliant mind will come up with great ideas for ideas! Don't give up!
I see you are having some fun again. Thanks for an interesting exercise. I really must start doing some paintings like this. You really do enjoy them, and I want to join in the fun.
👍🏻👌🏻Amazing 👌🏻👍🏻‼️
Love your words
WOWSERS!
While I wait for you to paint new works and download them, I go back to the older ones, watch two or three in a row and then paint something. Then I watch two or three of the newer ones and paint, haha.
Stuart! You asked about providing more than one video covering one painting: I think those who are interested in learning will be willing to watch as many videos as needed. I’ve watched this one all the way through twice, so far! See you on a zoom class soon!
Hi Stuart. Thank you for the work you do. I had a go at your style today. The result was far less spectacular than the mess I made. I think I have potential, my family and friends are less convinced. I wish I could download a photo. The world could do with a laugh right now.
3 parts won't hurt as long as I get to watch on the same day😌.. I know too much to ask.. Thank you again and again for sharing. Much love and prayers from Pakistan.🤗👍👍👍👍👍.
Stuart, I’ve just started watching your video and was just thinking, before you said it, that your voice sounds more hale and hearty than it has since post ticker troubles. I noticed right away you sounded like your old self! Keri doing whatever you are doing! Cheers mate from Michigan!
I too have heart failure, genetic or whatever it is called. I cant remember at the moment. I am writing this in 0ct. 2023 and was diagnosed in 2021. So i am still alive and so are you. Something to feel good about! I paint every day, not in your style, but your techniques interest me and i always learn something from your tutorials. And i like listening to your voice. Who knows, i may start painting landscapes!
That's a raw deal Stewart, still loving your style and freedom, it's been too long since my own brush met a canvas.
At 37.58 8t was an awesome seascape and later as always a visionary landscape 💕💫
Thanks!
Thank you!
Sorry to hear about your illustrative losses - or rather their losses - but do please keep up with the videos. I am an unashamed member of the 'I love the Davies skies and clouds' club. So I look forward to part two and any other cloudscapes you may publish in future. As always, many thanks, Stuart.
thank you for re-explaining the cloud touch .. trying it for months without success... but still have made some beautiful paintings even with the failure in them. I think there was an Englishman somewhere who said something to the effect of "keep calm and carry on." Please do. And an American about the same time who said something like, "nothing to fear but fear itself." When I think of Mr. Davies, I think, "try to paint like no one is watching." It should be easy to be courageous when you remember that it is, after all, only paint.
Thank you for some very useful instruction, I will be incorporating these techniques and may even sign up for a couple zoom lessons. You are treading ground I see coming up on my own horizon, no existential threats yet, but they will come. I do small landscapes on construction scrap I salvage at work. I sell them wherever I figure there is appropriate foot traffic and lax by-law enforcement, this may sound dodgy, because it is, and I like it that way. "Street artist" has a nice ring to it, and I meet all manner of interesting folks. Cheers, and good luck from Vancouver, Canada.
Very interesting painting
I think you the best artist on RUclips. I can only site for half hour then I have to get up and walk around. I also have heart problems or a week heart, never stoped me from painting because I stand up. Anyway I like to give short comment because it takes a long time for you to read a lot of comments. Cheers.
I would like to see a three or even four part painting to see how you add further glazing. Thank you 🙏 Louie
I remember reading that Chagall said when he relaxed and didn't think about what he was doing his work was always a success; when he thought about planning consciously it was always a failure. I enjoy putting things down as well and let pareidolia take off
very nice artwork ✔✔👍👍.....have a nice day,,,,,,,,,
Just saw this today and I hope things turn out well for you regarding the turn of employers. I've been through about 12 mergers and every time they lay off everyone they can. I can almost guarantee the person making the decision to move artists to the other side of the world is a young MBA. Computer support fails miserably when shipped overseas and that's a technical skill set. It's hard enough to translate vague descriptions into art resembling what the requestor wants when you know the culture and understand their needs, let alone when your culture and language are completely different.
Also, regarding relaxation, the main stress hormone, cortisol, actually hinders the body's repair mechanisms. So, it makes sense that focusing on the better things and taking positive actions actually does help in the long run.
Good one, Stu. Even though I know it's not, and ignoring the green above the yellow, I can't help seeing a nice sunset. :o)
What one might call ’philosophic painting’. Night in the sky and day on the ground. Still quit spectacular. /Per
My "taking chances" is to attempt to paint It's actually going very well because I've had such good lessons in attitude from you. I relax, and I paint. It's not a struggle, and I'm so surprised at how well my risks are working out.
Following my question re clouds some time ago , I can confirm that the cloud technique works with acrylics too.......with practice that is!!
I adore your lessons, a perfect teacher for me since I too am obsessed with any sky at any time of day. Particularly Sun rays streaming behind darkness. Thank you 54:33
Good day!
The relaxation method is certainly all beneficial, but as a medical doctor I still want to advise you to let a otorhinolaryngist have a look at the area around the vocal cords (if they have not yet) as the symptom has persisted a good while. Just to make sure 😊 Greetings from a fan in Finland!
So far, it's a "peaceful" painting. It feels as though you're slowly letting go from the book work. This painting is not the drama of your general ideas. It's very interesting how different this is.
😍❤
❤❤
If you like listening to music while you paint on RUclips could you not use headphones/earbuds? Surely it’s not breaking the rules as long as we can’t hear it. Glad you’ve got your talking voice back! 🙂
Was thinking the same. Wireless earbuds on hear-through (not noise cancelling) at low volume enables speaking and teaching but with music magically there in your background only.
Not sure that would work for me. I think, but not sure, it might interrupt the flow of what I'm saying. I will experiment!
@@StuartDavies Could work if the music was fairly quiet and undemanding. Wireless buds take getting used to, but once done they disappear leaving only the music.
❤️🙏👌
😊
Still looks like water to me out beyond the tree line. The yellow ochre is a patch of beach on the yellow sand.
Not irritating, just you with the same issue I have with being unclear what I'd like to do with the next brush stroke.
My undergraduate degree is in Voice performance. Your voice sounds well rounded and firm. You sound good. Note: you should nothing like Alan Rickman's Professor Snape. Don't worry about the Dark Arts.
Stuart, as a former physiological psychology researcher, I can tell you that the mind is a very powerful thing. Physical pain and health can, in many cases, truly hinge on your psychological state. As I hope you have been told by your physician, I can suggest that you spend some time meditating on the belief that your body is healing. I know this sounds like New Age BS given your diagnosis, but the mind is a powerful organ, capable of activating just about every system in your body, autonomous or not. I cherish your work and expertise in the arts, and I hope you can find your way to a maintenance program that allows you to build the psychological and physiological tools to manage your condition. Thank you for all you do. 💖👍
I would be interested to hear you talk about being a book designer what it involves etc
Pleased you are feeling a bit better.
Joel
Very interesting video Stuart. First time visitor. I enjoyed it a lot. Wondering if the brushes you use are chip brushes from hardware store? Thank you for the inspiration.
Yes they are :-)
@@StuartDavies Thank you Stuart, I loved the way you used them for a finished painting!
Stuart I love, love your paintings! And your style! One question, how do you clean your brushes?
Detergent and a lot of rinsing.
@@StuartDavies is that RED ………JAPANESE red 0r CHINESE red?
I can only find CHINESE red
Hi i would like to see the finished painting
Sorry about your job. Looking forward to more paintings.
Hello again. Stuart, is that a Cryptozoological creature looking like King Kong emerging above the white wispy clouds?
Love the drama throughout the whole of your tutorial.
you mention James Norton and yeh, I love it. Does he have a website Stuart? , there seem to be a number of artists with that name popping up on google
Try searching for 'James Naughton Artist', that should take you him.
Love your videos no matter the length!
Regarding your comments related to multipart videos and people’s ability or desire to watch for a long period of time in one sitting as well curious if RUclips would love you more if you had more videos overall vs fewer but longer? Meaning, 2-3 parts per painting about 30-45 minutes long? If they want frequency you could post 3 days in a row with just one painting broken up? I don’t know how it all works but my guess is the average person has 30-45 min at a time that they can commit to and maybe your numbers would increase overall as well? Hope that makes sense? Personally if I have only 30 min I just pause the video so any length words for me! Very glad I found you. Best wishes, Melanie
