So, notice that Quill lost Seaguard at 40:22. He said he was going to get a prompt to spend a power to retain control, but he didn't get the option because he did not have any power at this point, so he just outright lost the province. At 44:59 he also said he controlled everything, but he doesn't control the Sword since it was stolen from him because he couldn't bid on the first Wyldling attack.
Quill playing Game of Thrones for a RUclips video? This is a dream come true! I second the others in the comments thread, please do a board game night of this!
Excellent video! I've been curious about the game for a while and you did a great job explaining everything going on. Also, I'm glad to see a game that appreciates real naval power :P
4 people already disliked before they could ever finish the video....wow....love you're content Quill, always showcasing games I never would have heard of otherwise!!!
I bought this board game years ago and it's been gathering dust because I have no one to play it with. Can't wait to buy this game and finally give it a try!
If You would moved Knight from Pyke to Seagard (which You probably did not even see you had lost) and one Knight From Riverrun to Harrenhal (You didn't need both knights for Lannisport attack) then You would have win with 7 castles.
"great game to play friends with who you don't want to be friends anymore" word:D good thing this game takes so long everyone had to go home anyways right after
Nice, i own the board game, but the long playtime does not help getting it on the table. I actually think you could have won? You are at 5 now, you could have taken Harrenhal, and you could have recaptured Seaguard (You lost Seagard when moving to the twins because you were at 0 Power at that moment and couldnt keep it).
On turn 2 you should've exchanged the orders in "Pyke" and "Greywater Watch". The conclusion would be the same in terms of march but you would have gained an additional power since you have a crown in Pyke.
Quill could have won the game outright if he kept Seagard and moved a unit into Harrenhal with the final move order! Love this game and glad its out on a digital platform! Great content as always Quill! Keep it up :)
Have no seen the video yet, but first thought was. "What is Thorin Oakenshield doing in the menu of Game of Thrones" (I know it is supposed to be house Stark, it is just the appearence). But if it works i might buy it, just to play it since i never get many chances to play my boardgame.
Game of Thrones is an amazing board game but playing against the AI seems a bit weird because diplomacy has such a big role when playing with other people. Also it really works best with the full six players.
Love this game! Glad to see it online! Played 3 or 4 times with some buddies. Always a great game to have some drinks and stab some people in the back lol
Hey quill, you could have won the game on the last turn of the video if you had move your unit from pike to seagard to take back the province and splitted your attack on the Lannister to take Harrenhal... Great vid nonetheless, hope to see more of it ;)
Great video. Does it bother anyone else how utterly clueless the Lannister AI is? Come on... you're being attacked by land and sea in your capital. There is ONE optimal move, which is to Defend the capital, Raid in the port for canceling the sea support, and Support from the other land, to get a bit more power from defense. The AI instead goes for March, March, Consolidate. That's a 6 combat power difference here, AI. I know it's not the point of the video, and the AI is on Medium... but it's like watching a toddler try to put a square peg in a round hole.
I'm afraid to say yes. Although RNG can be a PITA in this game, its way more interesting and less one-sided, considering how even someone with a lead can be utterly screwed by the events from the Westeros decks, and players doing some leader-bashing of their own.
The Riverlands are, but not House Tully. The Mother of Dragons Expansion adds House Arryn and the House Targaryen. House Tully would be totally doomed from the start. Surrounded by the Lannisters, the Greyjoys, the Arryns, the Baratheon and the Tyrells players would have a very bad time... The Riverlands aren't one of the Seven Kingdoms (they were part of the Kingdom of the Isles and Rivers which is represented by the Greyjoys).
@@PerikleZ87 While I do agree that they would have an extremely disadvantageous starting position, they were a much more signifigant player in the books than house Arryn, by virtue of their alliance with the starks. And the riverlands were definetly a kingdom, House Tully was put in charge after they rose up against the ironborn in support of Ageon the Conquerer.
@@bm6632a " the riverlands were definetly a kingdom, House Tully was put in charge after they rose up against the ironborn in support of Ageon the Conquerer. " Do you see the contradiction? The Riverlands is a region but was never a 'kingdom'. I was historically dominated by the rulers of the Iron Islands and part of their kingdom. The separation happens when Ageon takes over.
They are not. But since you can always make yourself additional cards (for the board game that is) you can easily add them in. nonspecific example: Westeros Card: Rise of White Walkers - increase Wildling threat is permanently increased by 2 Wildling card: Night King Strikes - Wildling win: Each player discards one House card, total loser discards two. Players cannot regain their house cards this turn. | Night's Wath win: Winner regains all their House Cards.
Said nobody ever. Its just themed and has heaps and heaps of added mechanics that make it a game in its own right. By that same token half the card games in the world are just reskinned ur-poker.
This does a great job of showcasing one of the great weaknesses of this game. Imagine being the Lannister player here. Round 4 you are completely destroyed. There's still hours left of the game and you can do nothing. The greatest weakness of the game though is that early game you can't really gain much, you can only lose. It's a shame really because as Quill said the core mechanics of the game are excellent. The strategy tokens and the combat are absolutely beautiful and I love that part, but every game I've played have been a disappointment.
@@jairajbasur6389 Depending on how much diplomacy and AP it could take up to six hours. Keep in mind that with AIs there's none of that and Quill played gung ho to show stuff off so he played much faster than normal (I assume).
A part of me doesn't want to support game of thrones after that trash fina- "draws from the books rather than the TV show" oh word? Nvm looks great 5 stars
This board game is several years older than the tv show . if you buy it, the proceddings go to completely different people (except for mr Martin, I assume he gets a bit as well obviously)
Yeah the planning phase resolution steps, the order tokens, the influence tracks... it all adds to the confusion. Good news is, the digital edition has a tutorial good enough for you to familiarize with the rules and thr mechanics, and the user interface is neat and clean, easy to understand.

You should play the harry potter cooperative deck building card game. That takes a very long while

This board game is older than both the GoT tv series and the hobbit movies
Lol just bought this game 3 days ago in the hope of playinng with my quarantined friends..
god i haven’t thought about GoT in so long. super interesting though!!
Why cut it short? I would have liked to see a full game video.
So when you doing the multiplayer version
I went to go buy this game but it looks like the devs abandoned it, many recent reviews state it's so buggy that it's unplayable.
you should do more videos on this game !

Hey quill Diretide is in DotA right now, hope to see some DotA from you again

How do you acquire the digital version…?
Is it more complicated than Risk?

Hi where is you fs19 multiplayers player u did with two other people I try find it in playlists
Will you be doing more of this either on yt or on a stream?
More!
The best part of the tv show too.
Asmodee woo!
Seems a lot like ‘diplomacy’, no?
It has many similarities, but Game of Thrones is way better, in my opinion.
The base mechanics are somewhat similar, but that is saying Descent is basically D&D because it has characters with abilities.
Just a random comment to help The Algorithm. Fun video!
7 hours to setup 6056405645 years to finish the game :) nah the actual board game is fun, you just need to reserve a day aha.
