Greg, you are a true artist. I talked to you before I did my conversion on my '66 and it worked out absolutely fantastic. Total success, especially with your videos and advice. Thank you!
mr hillyer, your video is giving me the courage to try and put a roof on my 1979 pontiac trans am..previous owner put a 1978 hurst ttop setup on my 1979 t/a..i want to put a hardtop back on..1978 ttops were a smaller setup and look a little out of place..i appreciate how you explained the use of the rulers in the windshield and rear window space to keep things even and properly spaced and also the metal pieces in the pillar spaces to keep the roof in place..great helpfull info!
Awesome job! You guys have the talent and attention to detail. I would buy one of the cars you have restored with confidence!
I don't see why it would matter to be sold as a fast bag og I've been around this stuff for a long time for this guy obviously knows what he's doing he's doing a lot better job and Ford ever did I dare anybody to say that this isn't a safe proper way to put a car together does it matter fact I know of a 65 Mustang fit in the Talladega Museum that was a 66 box top turned into a Fastback and nobody even knows it black and gold hats off to you guys good work
This is the type of skilled work I used to see in Hot Rod shops but the skills and patients are no longer available to produce great quality work I wish your shop was local I would trust you fellows with a couple exotic's I have banged up Love your work
Cost of labor kills a lot of projects
Amazing work!
Type of work my cousin can pull off at Samson Design in Marshall Missouri. Im impressed never even thought it possible
I LOVE to watch real Craftsmen do their MAGIC!
That’s the right way to weld windshield posts together! So many guys just butt weld them. The way you have a much safer end result. Well done!
Only works because he is sliding into two sides not four,, unless you cut open the sides of all four. and slip in coupling.
Some rich guy is getting a fast back built...
Good work on the artist/ Craftsman side
i like your work...great job...
wow!! great video! but I need to see the finished product
the simple answer is YES!
it can be done.
Nice restoration work. Can you give me tip about rust forming on spot welding area after a while?
Thank you.
Interesting video, curious as to the process you undertook; the inner structure was transferred? I've found the structure to be vastly different vs the Coupe and Fastback, did you replace the qtr panels, or just weld what we see in the video?
where i can get the fast roof?
How good are the rear quarter panels on coupe. where would you draw the line to put on new rear quarter? This is a good time to replace them if there was a lot of rust around wheel flars or is a little bondo ok ? what your toughts on this.
Nice work...
you can buy fastback hard tops for a vert for about 2 grand
there is a top you can buy online, that you can put on like a hardtop. i have looked into it myself.
I want to do this with a 16 roof to a 65 convertible or coupe, any video suggestion?
How much does a build like this cost?
Thanks for the posting.
Its hard to see but it looks like you cut the roof right at the body line where it just starts to bend and goes down to the wheel well. Is That right its hard to see in video???? Then that edge just buts againt the 1/4 panel on the inside, Right?? Then it would be hard to see anything looking from the inside Right? Thanks again for the info!!!!!!!!!!!
you can see photos of the new paint on flickr under the username theacademytv
video coming soon!!
would i be able to pay someone to remove the original, and install the fastback? i know nothing of welding and really wouldnt want to ruin my mustang
Can this be done on a 67-68 coupe?
good one
More video comming soon!!!!!!!
Is that trunk lid for a fastball or coupe
Can you show the process of taking off the fastback roof. Im doing this same thing right now. Im stuck at removing the spot welds along the inner and outer sides of the wheel tubs. How are you able to access those?
When removing a panel from a donor, you can just grind the donor to nothing, so cut close the remove any remnants
It might be easier just to buy a fastback, but if you were to convert a coupe, this is how it should be done.
you can find a good coupe for 10 to 15k a good fastback about 30k
Good coupe 65 for $4,500. Even better.
Guess i looked at other video posting of yours and answered my own question.
There's kits for this now
Thank God it's only a Mustang. Dude, you freaked me out 'cause I got here from VW Fastback - thought you were chopping up a rare notchback.
4:06 looks like an el camino lol
Slick. End result is a non factory fastback, but at 140 no one can tell the difference.
I must ask how much this took I am restoring a 65 mustang coupe and would like to make it a fastback
You can reach out to Greg directly 317-445-0638
when you going to post video or pictures of final body work
it been 5 months and im holding my breath waiting
and then they get sold very expensive to europa as fastback :-), just have seen one of those conversions mustangs in Switzerland :-), the buyer was very pissed after he could find out :-)
+Silversurfer604 Why? First of all, it's the buyer's fault for not checking the VIN codes for authenticity, and if he couldn't tell before buying it, nobody else will be able to by just looking at it.
Calm down, shut up, and enjoy the great car regardless of whether it left the factory like that.
I've done almost the same exact thing on a 67 mustang. Good video here, no bullshit. Thanks guys.
I've got 3k in my 67 fastback including wheels and new floors, and still need a ton of work. BUT I have a steering column and suspension and glass.... so you gotta figure you'll be at 17 at least before you're at the same stage I am at with my conversion...I'll be done with the entire car for undetected 10k....vs 15k just for a shell with no vin even
Great idea love it !Some really bad metal work.
Body Tech ?
Even on a computer screen; MIG welding is kind of brought to look at.
shouda brought your welding helmets to cut down the broughtness
xSenZy that'd be a lot of money you'd be paying man
One of these days ..the humble 66 coupe will be more collectible than a C2 Vette!!
so instead of fixing a real fastback they screwed it up and stole the lid to make a fake fastback Brilliant haha
Why don't you just put a coupe front on the fastback 🤔
definitely hillbillies the way you cut the A pillars, for complete strength better than factory you should have stepped the pillar with a cut around 2 inches from each other and then drill out the spot welds between the two cuts and then matched the A pillars on the roof to suit the A pillars on the stang instead of a straight cut and a sleeve and slide it together.
STUPID. they should have just restored the real fastback with the parts from the coupe. backasswords
Title should say how to turn 2 mustangs into one horrendous Frankenstein POS! This is NOT the way to do this conversion folks.
Dan Carroll and you know how LOL
What a way to ruin a classic car
