I really wish his transition to a decepticon was played out more. Him seeing Megatron wield Dark Energon should've been what shakes his faith in the Autobots winning, but he still tries to fight. After being beaten a few times, maybe his resolve is broken, time and time again, which leads to him developing a coward's complex. But because he's useful to Megatron because he can manufacture more Dark Energon, Megatron agrees to take him on; both for the former reason, and having such a competent Sky Commander at the helm (who also likely has the loyalty and respect of other orbital station commanders, so more potential allies) would be beneficial. So as Megatron teaches Starscream to wield Dark Energon, this where we see Starscream's treachery kick in. He plans on secretly over throwing Megatron. He's betrayed one master already, what's one more at this point? That kind of idea.
I see someone who has desperately been trying to find some way to control or harness the dark energon for perhaps years, then sees this rando gladiator step right into the containment field and harness it like nothing. That's like seeing somebody walk into a nuclear reactor and come out with actual superpowers, and the sheer awe of that makes his submission believable to me. He basically witnessed someone do something that shouldn't be possible in any way.
I love how the Transformers franchise always revolves around the same characters with more or less the same attributes, but still manages to give each character their own unique role in each new piece of media. Megatron is always a megalomaniac, Starscream is always cunning and ready to betray everyone, ... you know these heroes and villains inside and out, but still each new iteration is something on its own.
I'm 50/50 on fred tatasciore's Megatron. Don't get me wrong, some of his lines are fucking iconic for a reason (I. AM. MEGATRON.) But there's just something about some of his deliveries like he's trying too hard to sound angry

When Megatron approaches that shielded opening to space at the very end, you can almost hear Starscream wondering what would happen if he gave Megs just a little push.

And later, Starscream became the ruler of Cybertron, and even resign of the job for the grater good. And he also, sacrifices himself for making possible to defeat Unicron... So weird that Starscream and the other Seekers here weren't Decepticons (until they decided to join Megatron), and yet they all looked exactly like Decepticons. Red eyes, purple color scheme, sharp look. For being non-Decepticons for thousands of years before they joined the faction, they sure looked exactly like Decepticons.
The eye-color of a cybertronian means nothing. Dinobots in the aligned continuity have red eyes, and grimlock from 2015 RiD's has blue eyes even though he was a decepticon.

I just met Fred Tatasciore in an elevator at Momocon a few days ago, and we got to spend some time chatting about his interpretation of Megatron and how he came up with the voice he used. Fred's Megatron is one of my favorites after Frank Welker's original and I'm just glad I finally got to tell him that in person!
I have a theory to explain the dark energon in this game compared to TFPrime: The “dark energon” that Starscream was creating & researching is an artificial version of it, similar to the incomplete synth-en from Prime but since its chemical basis was on authentic dark energon it had some other side effects & color differences. This could clear up many of the inconsistencies between WFC/FOC & TFPrime, in a way that makes sense with this Starscream’s scientific background.

I would agree but it was later confirmed around Season 2 that the show was going to be disconnected from the game following Fall of Cybertron’s release. There was just too much in the show that contradicted the plot of the game other than how the war began. I mean here Starscream says that nobody had survived direct contact but when Megatron stabs himself with Dark Energon in the show, he acts as if it’s the first time he’s scene it.

I really wish Starscream was done a bit better in this game. I appreciate the depth of making him an autobot and getting to see him turn to Megatron's side, but his shift to betrayal feels like a 180. They had a decent set up, but the payoff doesn't feel natural. We see he's obviously afraid of Megatron's power, but his arrogant change of allegiance seems more like a grab for power, which this game doesn't establish... If anything, it seems Starscream is against the use of the Dark Energon, even if it can be wielded.
It's also kind of weird how he so easily just betrays Jetfire. I thought the two were meant to be friends and yet they never even have any kind of positive interaction.
No, but cuz while Starscream is very good at combat and strategy, he's also a backstabing bastard and an egomaniac who doesn't know what he wants: become a new desepticon leader or just gain Megatron's respect. Well, depends on universe. In Aligned universe (Cybertron games, TF Prime, Robots in disguise) he is that, in Animated for example he clearly wants to kill Megatron.
The Megatron Starscream dynamic is something like the chicken or the egg argument. Is Starscream treacherous because Megatron is abusive, or does Megatron abuse Starscream because of his treachery?

One of the best game openings ever. It would be cool if the transformers games were made in a style similar to this again, but yet again, this is depiction of a peak series of events in transformers history.
This cutscene feels really inconsistent. Starcream was so adamant about stopping Megatron and even ran away only to say "Let me join you!" later. It was too jarring of a switch and it's illogical that Starscream would volunteer his services so easily when he ran away first. I understand if he was scared and switched for the sake of self-preservation, but it would've made more sense for Starscream to immediately beg for mercy when Megatron got the Dark Energon, not to run away and join later. I think this scene would have made more sense if Starscream wasn't the one trying to stop Megatron. Suppose instead that a head scientist is the character deadset on stopping Megatron while Starscream is a lower ranking scientist. And when Megatron reaches the main room with all the scientists, Starscream switches sides because he's a coward and only out of himself. Megatron gladly takes him in and kills the senior scientist while Jetfire run away as normal. That feels like much more constant portrayal of Starscream in this cutscene that doesn't have him seemly switch sides in a whim.
Look at it this way. Say you have a job working at a Nuclear factory, overseeing a reactor. Some rando comes along, exposes themselves to radiation & acquire powers from it. Something that should be impossible
Starscream tried everything to stop Megatron & it didn't work. Once he saw Megatron wield a power that was said to destroy anyone who touches it, he realized what type of beast he was dealing with was not worth his life. So he took his chance since he's the only one who knew how to activate the Energy Bridge to full capacity
I can only hear Walker from Spec Ops the Line when Megatron's soldiers talk, and I can only hear "Rangers lead the way!" from MW2 when I hear Barricade.
