Maple is a very underrated wood. I've had some exciting and unusual grain patterns. Turns nice finishes nice and there always seem to be plentiful. Very nice blow. Thanks for sharing ❤
Sometimes a 'simple' bowl can turn out much better than expected and be quite endearing. After all we're just showing off nature at her finest. Well done Gary.
Thank you Ray. The beauty can be hidden behind the bark. And it can be hidden under the grain itself. This was a pleasant surprise. Thanks for watching, Gary
That turned out to be a beautiful looking little bowl. Most of the time you just never know what nature has hidden inside a piece of wood. Glad you are able to get in the shop and do some turning. Thanks for sharing Gary, and take care.
Thank you Stuart. Well there was no turning back once I had it mounted. I had limited time in the shop and just had to go for it. Yes it was a wonderful reward seeing the grain that was hidden. Gary
Nice one Gary saved my morning, raining here in Spain so no bike ride or making a dash across to my workshop. Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece of art 😊.
Thank you Jane. I was sure amazed when the colors showed up. Thanks.. trying not to stand too long. But the surgeon released me and physical therapy as well. PT wants me going slow. Like getting out on our biked 🚲 Should be good when it warms up around here. Gary Thanks for watching, Gary
Awesome small bowl Gary. It's amazing what a piece of wood is hiding within itself. It's a lot like people. Unassuming on the outside but a bounty of beauty on the inside. So glad you picked this piece this week. As always, your sharing your skills and talent with us is always appreciated. Cheers Bruce
Thank You Gary...Very NICE... Simple yes but simple does not mean inferior to something elaborate. Glad you are out in your shop creating something whether it is simple or elaborate. Until next time ... TM
Thank you Fred. For sure it did. As I looked at it I considered taking it out of the lathe. But I had to see what it looked like. Thanks for watching, Gary
I was thinking Apple until you had the outside sanded. Yup, Maple it is! It's so cool the color finally came out on this little beauty! Great finish on it, too, Gary! Good to see you back at the lathe, my friend! I'm watching on my old computer set up on my wife's desk. I'll get back to the new one pretty soon. Have a great weekend, buddy! 😊 Phil
Thanks Phil. Just about done with a much bigger one. Good luck on the PC. I did the same thing maybe 2 years ago. Loaded the programs and installed my storage drives on it. I the files backed up on a handful of SSD drives. Have fun. Gary
It's great when something turns out better than you expect. Really nice little bowl. Good to see you getting back into the swing of things, how about a nice little lidded box?
Nice piece Gary. I see a lot of stacked logs in the neighborhood as people are doing spring cleanup. I guess it's time to replenish my blank supply. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Dave. Today we visited a friend who had an Oak tree taken down. She asked if I might want some. I took 3 pieces. Lost of drying time on these guys. Take care, Gary
My next door neighbor is planning to take down a black walnut tree this summer. I've already placed my order with him! My late wife would get so frustrated with squirrels hiding walnuts in her garden and potted plants. I made her burial urn out of walnut and recently finished mine from the same board. I sure like working with walnut.
Well, I like this wood and the bowl you made. If I had been guessing, I would have guessed some sort of maple. Some of the color reminded me of box elder which is a species of maple. You may be more familiar with other maple wood than I am. We have a lot of maple in Texas but not much in my area other than box elder. I am glad to see you working even on small pieces. Take care of yourself and keep turning.
Thank you very much. Seems like they all get smaller as you turn them. This one started small so got smaller than I wanted. But my wife will use it on here desk to keep trinkets. Thanks for watching, Gary

Gary, a wonderful small bowl. The bark edge looks great and I think “makes” the bowl.
Thanks Skip. Got a bigger one in the lathe today.
Have to admit small was fun😂.

Had not thought maple until you said it. I was thinking Bradford pear. Either way, it made a lovely bowl.
Grain on the bottom was telling Maple. But my ears have been clogged up😮
That bowl does have wonderful colors Gary, like caramel. 🙂
Thank you Laura. Hmm it does remind me of a caramel sundae.
