Richie Sambora's backing/secondary vocals are so vital to so many of Bon Jovi's songs. He's great on his own as well, but how their voices complement each other is the kind of thing that gives you goosebumps. And while I know that there are more technically difficult guitar solos, the crunchy, pure rock sound of Richie's solo does something to my blood, always has and always will.
There's something about this guitar solo. I can't explain it, its just fire - gives you a rare feeling. There's a couple of others that do that for me too - Alice in Chains Jerry Cantrell's solo in "Man in a Box" comes to mind, Matthias Jabs in Scorpions "No One Like You" is another. Maybe not super technical, but perfect choice of melody and impact.
I was going to highlight the exact same things. To me it's Samboras best solo. So powerful. It's the pitch harmonics and the way it just ends in those power chords. Just awesome. And Samboras vocals make the song.

Bon Jovi went from an opening act to the biggest rock band in the world very quickly. And they stayed they for a few years, playing tons of concerts across the globe.
I love the BonJovi concert video like this. Every concert I went to the music and performance never disappointed. Videos like this make me appreciate the mental and physical energy they gave to all of us night after night on tour.
The Whitesnake tour around the time, this song was written, started in June 1987 and ended in August 1988. With only two breaks due to total exhaustion of the singer after a stomach virus and a back surgery some monthes later. Nearly every day in another hotel, the only days at home when you tour close to your hometown. I have tour itineraries from that time in my collection where you can read details like 500 miles in the tour bus after show, check in to the hotel at 10 am, check out 6 hours later (and hand written by the bass player 2 hours promotion in a music shop during these 6 hours), soundcheck, show and another 500 miles in the bus...
They have been my favorite band since 1983. That's the year they came out. Every stage of my life seems to have a bon Jovi song attached to it. I have seen them five times in concert. Those are the five best concerts I've ever seen. And I've seen well over 150 concerts in my life. I got stood up for the fourth time I saw them. So I called a friend of mine and asked her if she was sitting down. She was stubborn and she kept saying no. Just tell me. I said well I have a spare ticket to bon Jovi. She screamed for about 3 minutes. And when she finally came back on the phone out of breath, they said I told you to sit down. I picked her up after she got off work and as we were heading to the concert I asked her what the best band she ever saw was. She said I've seen this band in this band and this band, but none of them were overpowering. Overpowering. She said who's the best band you've ever seen in concert and I said bon Jovi. She just kind of smiled. We got to the concert. Got to our seats and the stadium was about half full. She noticed that it wasn't packed. I said it will be. Then Daughtry opened for bon Jovi. At the end of the performance I said wow! I think that's the second best opening band I've ever seen. She said who was the best opening band you've ever seen. I said bon Jovi. She just kind of smirked at me. Then she ran to the restroom. When she came back, I said do you notice anything? She said no what. I said. Do you see an empty seat? She looked around and said oh my gosh where did everybody come from? I said it's bon Jovi. She smacked me on the arm I think. After the concert was over, and it was the best performance I'd seen out of the five I've watched. I simply asked her one question, so, what's the best concert you've ever seen? She smiled and said bon Jovi. I noticed that you did bed of roses on your channel as well. So one more piece of that concert. The concert was where the coyotes used to play. After Richie sambora saying I'll be there for you while Jon cooled off, a spotlight focused where center ice would be. Jon was there with a headset on to sing with. They started singing bed of roses. Jon was walking from sunrise to the stage with his hands held out to either side so he could touch as many of his fans as he could while he made his way back to the stage. The one thing you need to know about Jon Bongiovi is that he loves his fans as much as we love him. He is also a philanthropist who has donated a tremendous amount of money, time and effort to helping The less fortunate.
My first big concert was this tour and this was the #1 song at the time. For the first encore it was Ritchie Sambora playing some tasty blues stuff on his double-necked Kramer, settling into D, then launching into Wanted. Amazing show. Cinderella opened. The second encore had Bob Rock come out and they jammed more songs. The show was in Vancouver, and Bob Rock produced the album there.
Seen them live multiple times from Dallas, Houston, West Coast, East Coast love their cross over Rock it's all still some of the best Rock for sure thanks for the reaction Aileen -suggested next, living on a prayer -cheers,
Jon BonJovi wrote this song & Blaze of Glory for the movie Young Guns 2 with Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen. A story about Billy the Kid. Jon does his first acting cameo in the movie as well. One of my favorite movies & must see!
I loved your commentary of this song. You can so relate to the Rockstar as they’re on the stage. And I was feeling it there at the end. Very emotional, more than I expected.
I first heard this song in an episode of Miami Vice (S03E07 El Viejo) where Willie Nelson played an old retired Texas Ranger. This song was perfect for that episode. Willie was an old cowboy, just like the song.
Have this on my playlist. When I on my motorcycle and I must say. I go too fast listening to this. Keep up the great work. Much love from Lawton Fort Sill Oklahoma
Seriously one of the artists i listened to when I was ten, bon jovi, Phil Collins, Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen , def leppard, just some of a kids playlist, aka cassette tapes.
I left school and started an apprenticeship in 1986. The first year involved living in digs away from home during the week. I had a little cassette boom box on my bedside table in my room of that house, and Slippery When Wet and the first three Marillion albums were about the only tapes I owned back then. I listened to this song and album *A LOT* during that year!
i had 3 older sisters, and bon jovi was my middle sister's favorite band so i grew up hearing tons and tons of bon jovi. wanted dead or alive is one of my favorite bon jovi songs. my dad always called bon jovi "baby making music", but there are a few classics that are must listens: runaway never say goodbye you give love a bad name livin' on a prayer lay your hands on me i'll be there for you born to be my baby always and some of my favorite lesser known songs: let it rock stick to your guns wild is the wind blood on blood i'd die for you
I love Bon Jovi, it was one my first cassettes I bought at 13 years old. Slippery when wet doesn't have a bad song on it they are all great, you could the first one to do "Let It Rock!!!!!!!!!
Love this song! My best friend playing lead guitar in a band for decades, I would watch him perform in bars, clubs, etc. He started playing this song in a crowded bar one night and I’m thinking, they don’t play this song. He waved me up on stage and handed me a microphone expecting me to sing this song. I’m like WTF i don’t even know all the lyrics. I just went with it and improvised adding some of my own lyrics. That’s just rock and roll I guess. Not knowing, I was also singing most of Richie Samboras back up vocals which I loved. Apparently all went well with the crowd standing and cheering. My buddy surprised and did this to me a few times with A/C D/C, U2, etc! Rock on 🎸🎤🕺🏾
Hello from Switzerland (my adoptive country)from a Texas guy...I've been to Tombstone as well, hundreds of concerts also! Probably most of the bands you have reacted to!!
This song was so popular because it diverged from their normal rock sound and because of Richie Sambora’s prominent acoustic guitar and backup vocal. “Little Runaway” was their first hit which (rightfully) burst them on the scene. “You Give Love a Bad Name” was the anthemic song that had us all chanting along in school.
They were the best band in the world in the 80s and 90s. I loved that era. They did so many gigs and it wore them out and this song shows how much of a drain it was but they rocked us and I will always be in their debt.
Find the acoustic version, MTV awards, 1989 with Jon and Ritchie. It’s Prayer and Wanted and is around here. Saw Bob Jovi open for .38 Special just before Slippery exploded, one of my favorite shows ever. Huge Ritchie fan, being a 6 string slinger myself, his solo stuff is worth checking out. Well, his older solo stuff, he unfortunately has issues these days, mostly substance related.
"Runaway"🔥 was their first single released off of this album and the video debuted on MTV. It's a banger!💥 It was their first step on the road to stardom.🤗 I saw them in concert in '85 and they were fantastic live!💯 Great concert, great memory.😊❤️✌️
Hi Aileen 😊👍 Awesome awesome reaction 😊👍 Yes you hit the nail on the head on the theme of this song as all of us have it one time or another dealt with the public and we have to put on the pretty face, the jovial attitude and put so much of ourselves out there to please that at the end of the day when we get home we are completely exhausted so this is a very good adaptation of what it means to project yourself to other people 😊👍 and it can be draining but if it's something that you love to do then you take the emotion and use it as fuel to carry on 😊👍 In my instance, I have worked retail jobs and also teaching jobs and in both cases you give a lot of yourself during the day and so you treasure the times to get away and refuel so that you're ready for the next time 😊👍 I know you are incredibly busy with all the things that you do and I'm so glad you did take the time away and you seem very recharged and very enthusiastic and I'm glad 😊👍 I took the time before listing to your reaction to read all the comments so far and you have hit a gold mine with Bon Jovi... there are so many beautiful suggestions that I have nothing to add so I will just sit back and relax and enjoy your reactions to all the songs that they have recommended for you to listen to as always😊👍 Happy to have you on for the ride for the classic hits and music of the 60s 70s 80s and 90s 😊👍 Have a great day you and Arya 😊👍 and yes you are deserving and worthy😊👍
On the cowboy theme, you wanna hear something that rocks I think more is modern day cowboy by Tesla love to see what you think of this one. It’s like the harder rock version of the cowboy theme in my opinion.
Some of my Favorite Bon Jovi Songs - Runaway. Livin' on a Prayer, You Give Love A Bad Name, Bad Medicine, Living In Sin, Keep The Faith, In These Arms, I'll Sleep When I'm dead, It's My Life, Thank you For Loving Me, Lay Your Hands On Me, Always, I Believe
Jon Bon Jovi is a great singer and songwriter. The best demonstration of this is the album Blaze of Glory (unofficial soundtrack for Young Guns 2). If he has a cowboy alter ego, that album channels it.
I have been a diehard fan of Bon Jovi since they first appeared on the scene. As many powerful songs as they've had in their amazing career, Jon's version of "Hallelujah" became my favorite the instant I heard it. He made it his own.
I love bon jovi so much. My first store bought cassette tape was slippery when wet when I was about 12. They had TONS of great songs in the 80's. You'll get a lot of the same requests, but you can pretty much pick anything. Their deep cuts were as good as their hits. Please do more!
I get what you're saying Aileen , It's putting on a smiley face doing daily thing's , whether it's rocking a million faces , or being on the RUclips stage or just trying to make your friends laugh at work , All while life happens , it drains you
Great song off a great album. My favorite album by them. Great guitar work and guitar solo. . Cool video too. CRANK IT UP LOUD. . HORNS UP. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I saw Bon Jovi open up for Ratt back in 1985 before Bon Jovi released the album with this song on it (Slippery When Wet) and became super famous. Bon Jovi didn't have any huge hits at that time so they had to work to win over the crowd. All I can say is they put on one hell of a show and definitely won over a bunch of new fans. They guys in Ratt on the other hand were WASTED haha. I'm not sure how many Budweisers Stephen Pearcy slammed during their show but despite that they still brought down the house. That was a great night!
I think nearly everybody on the planet has heard "Livin' on a Prayer." But on the slim chance that you may be one of the 2 or 3 people on Earth who haven't, that would be a great next listen. Another good one is "It's My Life." Love your reactions.
Those were the exact two I was thinking of. I especially like how the lyrics in "It's My Life" refer back to characters introduced in "Livin' on a Prayer."
Took me right back to Highschool. Jon said the band preferred their Live footage MV's, I saw them Live 3 times and I can understand why. Gotta give it up for Ritchie Samborra's vocals (and of course Lead Guitar) in this song too. Met Jon, briefly once and almost passed out lol. Enjoyed this a lot.
Aileen.. I grew up in Jersey when this was new... The albums Slippery When Wet and New Jersey was before Wanted Dead Or Alive... Gotta react to some earlier Bon Jovi...😀😀 Without Love, Living On A Prayer, Bad Medicine, and my favorite Never Say Goodbye..❤❤❤
Bon Jovi was the first concert i went to when i was 13 with Cinderella opening, amazing band live!, steel horse i ride is the tour bus, about being on the road...
This song is on the sound track for the Young Guns II movie (westerns). It is the man theme song for the movie. It appeared under the title of Blaze of Glory on Jon Bon Jovi's solo album of the same name. The song also appears on several other movie sound tracks. This is among my fav Bon Jovi songs. (Living on a Prayer is still #1 for me).
One of the songs that made me pick up guitar. I was 14 and cowboys were damn cool. It is actually a really fun song to play on guitar. I still think Richie Sambora is a way underrated guitarist. Not among professionals, but yes, too few people see it, he is awesome.
Not a huge Bon Jovi fan, but always loved this song. Definitely the only one of their songs I learned on guitar, because that acoustic part just flows so nicely. It's just fun as hell to play. Also the solo in this song is on point.
This song fits the "Young Guns" movies so well; I think of those films when I hear this. They also did a song for one of the movies actually called "Blaze Of Glory."
Hi Aileen! This theme of dealing with the grind of a long tour has resulted in a lot of great songs, as the feelings are so raw and genuine to the band members themselves. A few others you might want to check out are: Faithfully, by Journey Wither, by Dream Theater Sweet Home Alabama, by Lynyrd Skynyrd And the one I most want you to hear and react to: Hell You Call a Dream, by The Warning.
Great reaction, I feel the rockstar life seeing different faces in the crowd, travel, the high life is a double edged sword, full of highs and lows "I'm a cowboy" refers to feeling out there alone
I was at Pearl Harbor when “Living on a Prayer” was released. Radio stations played that song so many times a day that every time I hear it today my mind goes back there. Such GREAT times!!
This song and Under The Bridge were the first songs I learn to play on the guitar, reminds me of the Bay Area as kid playing night clubs (have not been back there in 20 years).
So much you could say about Bon Jovi, but I'm sure you'll get plenty of that from others. Just a couple things I would like to say. Another song, that for whatever reason, Jon Bon Jovi did solo for the soundtrack of the western movie "Young Guns 2", called "Blaze Of Glory", which has a very similar vibe. Great song that was a huge hit in like 1990, or whenever that was. I had the single on audio cassette, and listen to the hell out of it! It and this song are two of my very favorites of theirs. The other thing is that I don't think you've done any Bob Seger yet, but one of my very favorites of his is "Turn The Page", which is another song that's reflective of being on the road, and that whole thing, and it's been covered by Metallica, which maybe you've heard.
Omg,,, how have you not heard all this great hits???? It makes me sad,,, but to watch you watch them for the first time is WILD….. LOVE THESE videos,, now I have to watch them ALL…. After watching them I am sure I know some you have never heard and will pass them on to you… ALL THE BEST… 😂😂😂 sorry that is meant not to be but you may not of heard all the best, which is crazy to me… But I am sending ALL THE BEST little one…… ENJOY
thank you so much for this very heartfelt and empathetic reaction to this classic!! i so enjoy all of your reactions..thank you for your kind hearted approach to people! Take good care Ms Senpai and..keep em coming young lady!!

You should react to Richie Sambora's solo álbuns, you won't regret it...
Bon Jovi went from an opening act to the biggest rock band in the world very quickly. And they stayed they for a few years, playing tons of concerts across the globe.
disagree it was few decades 80-90-00
Jon bon jovi anf Richie sambora.....
Not this song, it is not on the soundtrack for the movie
This song is about them being on tour on their steel horse which is the TOUR BUS.
Yeah , but the " loaded six strings on my back" is a corny ass line lol ... I do love the song . But that lyric gets me every time lol
Also the title track for Young Guns 2, so double meaning there
@@harrylangley3866Blaze of Glory is the song from YG2..That was John Bon Jovi not the band Bon Jovi..
@@harrylangley3866 No, you're thinking of Blaze of Glory. And "title track" means a song with the same name as the album or movie.
Doubt they were wanted dead or alive, tho
I love Richie Sambora on backing vocals and harmonizing with Jon Bon Jovi not to mention for his guitar playing !!
I can't help picturing the opening credits of the Discovery show Deadliest Catch whenever I hear this song.
Hey just recently discovered you and your my favorite and love when ever I see your facial expression it makes me smile every time keep it up girl ❤
Seriously one of the artists i listened to when I was ten, bon jovi, Phil Collins, Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen , def leppard, just some of a kids playlist, aka cassette tapes.
Bon Jovi is amazing. Check out his vocals on, Bed of roses. Phenomenal. 👍
No one toured harder than Bonjovi back in the 80s. Now for the high energy BonJovi check out the official video for "Lay your Hands on Me"
Bon Jovi was my first concert a very long time ago. Slippery When Wet tour. Skid Row was the opening act. Amazing times back then…
i had 3 older sisters, and bon jovi was my middle sister's favorite band so i grew up hearing tons and tons of bon jovi. wanted dead or alive is one of my favorite bon jovi songs. my dad always called bon jovi "baby making music", but there are a few classics that are must listens:
runaway
never say goodbye
you give love a bad name
livin' on a prayer
lay your hands on me
i'll be there for you
born to be my baby
always
and some of my favorite lesser known songs:
let it rock
stick to your guns
wild is the wind
blood on blood
i'd die for you
A true classic
Living with Rock not, under a rock. 😂 Always a Riot to watch yer reaction vids. Tanks.
I love Bon Jovi, it was one my first cassettes I bought at 13 years old. Slippery when wet doesn't have a bad song on it they are all great, you could the first one to do "Let It Rock!!!!!!!!!
Glad it hit you!!!! Very underrated song. And the guitar solo also screams desperation. So good ❤
Love this song! Rock on 🎸🎤🕺🏾
Child of the mid80s-90s here. Hair band lover. Friends and I couldn’t get enough of these guys and many others. So fun!
What you see on stage is Jon Bon Jovi being an artist, giving his everything for the fans that came to see him.
I've seen a million faces and I rocked them all! I love that part!
They were the best band in the world in the 80s and 90s. I loved that era. They did so many gigs and it wore them out and this song shows how much of a drain it was but they rocked us and I will always be in their debt.
We played this song at our jams all the time back in the day. I played drums back then and did lead vocals. -Terry
The Best Bon Jovi's sont ..for me...Richie Sambora 60% of BJ..great Reactions Aileen...❤👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I don't see how such a worldwide popular song for 38 years isn't at least accidently heard at least in your life.
I thought the same thing until I realized the songs of today I don't know or care to know
On the cowboy theme, you wanna hear something that rocks I think more is modern day cowboy by Tesla love to see what you think of this one. It’s like the harder rock version of the cowboy theme in my opinion.
Love your reaction videos. And I must say in this particular video, your RUclips plaque looks good in the reflection of the video you are watching.
Really enjoy your reactions & analysis/insight! Glad you're back and keep up the great work!
There is a live version of this song that will blow your mind out the door. It is live in moscow 1989. The intro is a 2:45 solo that is beyond amazing
My favorite band back in the day. Bon Jovi has so many great songs. Thank you for this and looking forward to you reviewing more of their songs soon!!
In and Out of Love!!! 🤘😀🤘
Hey!!!! I watched that awesome music video.
This is why Bob Jovi rocks. Also, He speaks Italian
Jon Bon Jovi is a great singer and songwriter. The best demonstration of this is the album Blaze of Glory (unofficial soundtrack for Young Guns 2). If he has a cowboy alter ego, that album channels it.
On of the most iconic songs ever written. CLASSIC!
I get what you're saying Aileen , It's putting on a smiley face doing daily thing's , whether it's rocking a million faces , or being on the RUclips stage or just trying to make your friends laugh at work , All while life happens , it drains you
I’ve seen a million faces…and I rocked them all
That’s rock & roll for you 🔥
Great song off a great album.
Another good one is "It's My Life."
Love your reactions.
And "You Give Love a Bad Name".
Those were the exact two I was thinking of. I especially like how the lyrics in "It's My Life" refer back to characters introduced in "Livin' on a Prayer."
Nah, North Korea, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Sudan , Iraq , etc , never heard of Bon Jovi 🤪
She does songs she's heard all the time. She just doesn't admit it.
"It's My Life" is my favorite!!!!!!
"Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man". I always remember this movie when I hear this song)))
That movie intro was the best!
Great analysis Aileen, thanks :)
Another suggestion for you by bon Jovi is "you give love a bad name" also "blaze of glory"
Well they are similar but they are different songs
@@fredriknilsson6042 Thanks. I never noticed.
Those pinch harmonics, though. Shivers up my spine every time.
Saw them live on the New Jersey tour. Great show. Skid Row opened for them.
I always thought it was about being on the road constantly touring.
A few others you might want to check out are:
Faithfully, by Journey
Wither, by Dream Theater
Sweet Home Alabama, by Lynyrd Skynyrd
And the one I most want you to hear and react to: Hell You Call a Dream, by The Warning.
Great reaction, I feel the rockstar life seeing different faces in the crowd, travel, the high life is a double edged sword, full of highs and lows "I'm a cowboy" refers to feeling out there alone
Saw this live in 1987, the live version started with a golden Richie solo.
Your insight was amazing ❤
I was at Pearl Harbor when “Living on a Prayer” was released. Radio stations played that song so many times a day that every time I hear it today my mind goes back there. Such GREAT times!!
It’s funny you said that about feeling like a cowboy song because it was the song for the movie “Young Guns II” Great movie!
My introduction to Bonjovi was buying the "Crossroads" album in college, maybe 20+ years ago, was hooked from then
Omg,,, how have you not heard all this great hits????
It makes me sad,,, but to watch you watch them for the first time is WILD….. LOVE THESE videos,, now I have to watch them ALL….
After watching them I am sure I know some you have never heard and will pass them on to you…
ALL THE BEST… 😂😂😂 sorry that is meant not to be but you may not of heard all the best, which is crazy to me…
But I am sending ALL THE BEST little one……
ENJOY
Never been a big bon Jovi fan but there are certainly a couple of songs of theirs that are undeniably great tunes.
thank you so much for this very heartfelt and empathetic reaction to this classic!! i so enjoy all of your reactions..thank you for your kind hearted approach to people! Take good care Ms Senpai and..keep em coming young lady!!
