  • I had my car in a garage for 9 months unused. Luckily, I had it under a car cover, disconnected the battery, and topped off the gas tank before leaving it. It definitely needed servicing after I started it up, and everything worked as expected!

Unhooking the battery was the right call but with a little planning any car will start and run just fine after sitting for an extended period. Tens of thousands of cars that are 60 or 70 years old, even older, sit 6 months at a time in the winter and will run just fine the next spring.

I had a motorcycle that I let sit for 3 months and the gas went bad....they had the flush the entire system .. it is more common with motorcycles . the dealership total me to alway use the gas additive . for any extended ength of time...It help if you have a garage and it is not left outside ..Most people do nothing ...I read it is even worse with e car to let them sit fro extended period of time expectably in the extreme heat ir cold

You really ought to have someone there start it and run it a few minutes, every month , while you’re gone. That would be my suggestion. Keeps all the fluids from coagulating, keeps parts lubricated, etc. If you do that then you won’t need to service it when you return from a voyage.

Just to add to the comment before, loosen the negative terminal a bit more and with a push and twist motion, the terminal will spread open more as it slides down the battery post, it's tapered thicker at the bottom.
The thin metal things that Toyota calls battery terminals stretch over time.
