Hey Justin! Congrats on the new (to you) equipment and your new venture. I'm sure that the previous owner would have been glad to see it go to a person that would appreciate and use them to advantage! I feel the same way about my Dad's tools. Some of them have been in the family for generations. Dad always used to say, "Only a rich man can afford poor tools!" Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! I will be interested in seeing what knife designs (and other cutlery) you settle upon. Particularly, the "Neck Knife" & Sheath, and your "Mountain Man" Large Knife & Sheath! WOOF! The French Canadians on the frontier, back in the day, usually carried three knives - a small neck knife, a large fighting knife on their belt/sash, and a medium knife strapped to their lower leg - so the handle would be just above the knee. That way, they always had an appropriate sized knife for any required task! Of course, a tomahawk or a wooden war club would be carried as well! I am also glad to learn that your Southern Mud Pottery will still be available... even if more limited than right now. Good Luck & God Bless! We'll see you down the trail.
Good morning Justin. May Godbless your new ventures. Brother Dont let people get to you or harden your heart. People can be a pain to say the least. Im dealing with aggravation from some at work too.
Great blessings on your new journey.we got a guy at church when we do some work at church he dont never show up but come sun he will say why didnt you do it this way. Oh lordy i have to watch my tongue.you got this my friend
That's great having a Knife Shop Justin and getting all those tools sure will help things along. I was just going to ask about your Teepee Project when you mentioned it. Looking forward to seeig that.
Good luck with the new business venture. Funny how opportunities present themselves along the right path. (Meaning the new tools) Get 'er done, good buddy! Don't lose the attitude of doing it the way you like to do it.
My first belt grinder for making knives was a BlademasterR. That was probably 40 years ago. Now if I remember correctly, (I'm 78, whew, it sneaks up on you). You can rotate the BlademasteR into the horizontal position and use it just like you grind on your 4" x 48". I enjoy your channel. Good luck in all your hobbies and activities..
a friend of mine makes knives on you tube his channel BC truck BC blades his logo looks like a skilsaw blade im not one usually promotes others channels but you may look through his videos and he made a jig for use on the belt grinder since you are handy making stuff you might want to check out a video or 2 hes a nice guy and if you ask questions he usually answers
The wooden wheel is used to Barnish the edges of the leather. Put bee's wax on the leather and rub it on the wheel and it will turn the edges black and very smooth. My wheel had a grove like a pully that way it rounded the edges of the leather.
Great approach to making knives, my father made knives in MT in the 80s through 2010, he would make what he wanted and then offer them up on tables at gunshots or blankets at rendezvous. He didn't really mess with custom orders either, he was in it for the enjoyment and if he got some cash cool.
How exciting this all is.....because I could use a good knife too. I happened to watch a woman make a knife over on Wild in the Woods and I know this isn't easy. I think she has a gas stove. I'm really happy for you but don't forget about all the other stuff you bring to us. I enjoy the medicinals and being part of the joy you bring so many others. I think you are the excellent person to kick out some bad a##&&**## knives. No doubts you will soar!
You need to get you a good thick leather apron to wear when you’re grinding and polishing knives , that’ll save your life. By the way that’s an awesome thrift store find.
Hey liked the turtle vidieo from 3 years ago what happened to the shell and did u cook it?😮 got me a turtle the other day going to cook on my channel people don't like u no oh well
Just want a good all around bushcraft knife. Something I can skin a deer- & baton small sticks to start a fire. I don't want to carry 5 knifes when I go hunting. Just in case I get stuck staying the night & might need a fire, or heaven forbid I'm stuck out there a few days & need to set up a few dead fall traps or any kinda trap I gotta whittle some trigger sticks or whatever. That's what kinda knife I've been looking for, and started about 3 mo ago. But I don't want to settle. I wanna find the right knife.
@@controversialhunter8032 the truth is for each person that is always a different knife. Each person has their own way of doing things which I encourage and that blade is tweaked a bit. As i fish more than most folks that alters what i want in a knife vs a person who hunts more. I do it all and this one ive been wearing has fit every need but that dont mean it will for you. It will take battoning but i dont promote that at all. Ive never had to do it to start a fire. I’ve always found enough dead twigs and limbs hanging in trees to build a fire even in the rain.
Way to go telling that jack wagon off for saying that you didn't know what you were talking about. I think you got a plan when it comes to the knife making. The new equipment will be a time and work saver for you. As far as the mountain man knife, I think that will be a good design for it. It's almost identical to the one I have.
I know You are going to do Great. I am a retired Bricklayer and also make Turkey calls. Please wear a respirator. And eye and hearing protection. I made all these mistakes and pay today for it. I definitely will get a knife from You in the future. Enjoy.
I love the knife you made for me I was going to ask you if you could make me a patch knife. I think your handmade stuff is great I know my life is not like anybody else's
Was gonna say it kinda looks no account but they's about $1200 new. Dead simple design. There is a spring down in that tube for tension. It looks like its missing the table, but you can fasion one up out of a peice of angle iron. Bearings tend to get crunchy on these cuz there"s not much protection, but it's all easy enough to change them out. The only weakness in these is if the tube start to get worn. Then the top pulley will cock over and twist a bit, so you're constantly fighting the tracking on the belt. But even that isn't hard to tweak back into true. It's a very nice unit. Plus you can lay it down flat too or use it above the platten if you need a bit of a slack belt to work in a radius.
@SpiritoftheOutdoors that's the motor. Google kalamazoo 2x48. Do an image search and you'll see lots of examples and how they are set up. It's probably an older one but it shouldn't be any problem finding parts.
That belt ain't a inch over 71 and a half.... :) My guess is, some knothead saw a 72 inch grinder on a video that had some 2 inch wheels, so the free space between wheels is longer.... Or somethin..Them folks probably never even held an angle grinder, let alone bought a 71 and a half inch belt grinder like you got. I don't know what that mystery wheel was made for, but I know what it would be excellent for... Dampen the edges of your leather and run it against that wood or fiberboard or whatever wheel and you can burnish a great edge on that leather. That's what I would use that wheel for.
Awesome shop! I'm gonna get a Jonah knife pretty soon!! 1095 is a GREAT steel! Good luck with your knife making!!
