    Since humans trekked the earth, we've had water containers to carry water with us. Buy the best of the best survival bottles, Nalgene Tritan bottles.
    BPA free! (Safe for you and your kids!)
    Breakproof! (Throw it against a brick wall, it'll take it, no other bottle will)
    Taste free! (Glass bottles are taste free, but shatter easily)
    Dent free! (Stainless bottles dent easily from 1 drop)
    Thermal insulation, and can handle 100 deg Celsius, put hot water in it, and hold it while camping to stay warm! Try that with any other bottle, can't be done.
    Wrap duct tape around the bottle, and be prepared for life, no matter if you're travelling, camping, or a city slicker, it will do the job. I've used it for everything and can say it has my seal of approval, check my channel, I only give honest reviews based on facts and experience.
    For all the reasons above, I personally use Nalgene bottles only.
    This is the simplest, best water bottle one can get. It's inexpensive, doesn't have latches or clips, it's durable, BPA/Odour free, impact resistant, and safe between -40°C and 100°C (So you can store it in your car).
    What more could you ask for?
    This has a good balance of thermal insulation, impact resistance, and taste-free benefits. Glass is taste-free, but breaks easily. Double walled stainless steel has great thermal insulation, but leaves a metallic taste in your mouth, it is also strong and only dents when dropped. All these benefits are balanced by the copolymer used in the Nalgene bottle. The use of a light weight BPA free polymer gives you the best of all worlds.
    If you need one for biking, go with the Nalgene OTF.
    Thank you,
    Cheers!
    David.

      Haha yup. Same. I don't like to use plastic food containers or anything. Definitely avoid use of plastics.
      But some plastics are designed for use with water, like those 18L water bottles, or the tritan plastic for these nalgene bottles, it doesn't add any plastic taste, and should be not adding anything to the water.
      Cheaper plastic bottles definitely add a strange taste, and should be avoided tho.

    When I first got a Nalgene bottle, I used the sipper at first. Turns out it has a nasty habit of cultivating bacteria as it would smell foul after a while. I put an OTF cap on the bottle and clean it out with bleach after every use, so far it is holding up.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  5 лет назад +2

      Tyler Clark Ya, these things can get smell after some time. I've got a nice bottle brush kit from Amazon that has enough brushes to clean a thermos, it works well for cleaning the Nalgene too. For optimal performance, I clean drinking vessels daily with Dawn dishwashing detergent, it's great stuff, way better than sunlight or anything else I've used, really strong soap and easy on the hands. If you haven't tried, use it once and see what you think, I'm sure you'll be a fan. Cheers, David.

      I notice a smell within one day. I rinse it harshly with warm water before each refill, which seems to keep the water odorless before my first sip, even if I don’t drink from it all day/night. Other than that, I scrub it with a bottle brush and dish soap once or twice a week.

      To clean bottles effectively, I use vinegar and baking soda.
      Fill the bottle about halfway with water, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and two or three tablespoons of vinegar, shake, let it rest for a few minutes, then shake again and rinse.
      No dangerous chemicals in my bottle and it is effective for cleaning.

      Awesome!
      What kinda bottle is it, and what do you like about it?
      I like the Nalgene cuz it doesn't have weird taste/smells, and it has a high temperature rating, that makes it safer to leave in the car, or to put hot liquids into it, which is nice.
      It's resilience also makes it nice when you drop it, it doesn't dent or shatter like stainless steel or glass, respectively.
      It's also well priced for such a great bottle with all these desirable features.
      Definitely my favourite water bottle.
      For hot or cold drinks, that I want to keep hot or cold, I trust in Zojirushi thermoses though, they cost upwards to double the price of other brands, but it's definitely worth it.
      The model I recently picked up, and would highly recommend is the Zojirushi SM-KHE48: It's got a lid lock so it can't accidentally open, a strong latch, a lock back lid, an air relief hole so you can drink easily, a partial lid lock so that when you first open it the pressure doesn't blast the lid off, it's got a great vacuum to keep the liquid insulated and the stainless steel construction seems top notch. The finish looks pretty cool as well.
      Drinking is such an important part of the day, so it's important to have a great water bottle and thermos, hopefully my insights are helpful!
      Drink on!
      Cheers!
      David.

    David, what’s the story with this bottle being exposed in the sun? Since it’s plastic, I’m concerned with the possible harmful effects of sun exposure when on hikes, on the lake, etc.

    • @whengrapespop5728
      @whengrapespop5728 5 лет назад +9

      This bottle is made of a plastic that shouldn’t leak anything into your beverage. The company originates from a company who specializes in lab equipment/bottles, and if the sun would do anything at all, it would purify the water inside with UV rays, not release anything from the plastic of the bottle itself.

    • @LrMdrd
      @LrMdrd 5 лет назад +2

      @@whengrapespop5728 I believe the bottles are made of polycarbonate (same plastic as the lenses in many sunglasses) and as such form a total barrier to UV. Whether tinted or clear polycarbonate will block all UV.

    Does Nalgene offer a cycle friendly 50oz/1.5L bottle where you dont need two hands to open the lid to take a sip?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  5 месяцев назад

      No I don't think they do. All I can see is 22oz. nalgene.ca/products/22oz-draft-bottle-purple?variant=32407454187606¤cy=CAD&adgroup=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA7aSsBhCiARIsALFvovwJhbJKBtxQSCP-7fGqX3aRtcd5gugWuNN0YNMrCCcI8dJXr4rg2-gaAt-1EALw_wcB
      I don't think 1.5L will fit in a bike bottle cage unless you do some custom modifications.
      I'd get multiple bottles with two cages on the bike if you need more water, that way you have 44oz without the bulk of one big bottle.

    Does this water bottle sweat a lot when filling with ice cold water?

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  8 лет назад +2

      +Glenn Taylor Hi Glenn, it does a little, but not as much as a stainless steel bottle. The amount of sweat is dependent on the thermal conductivity of the material, and in comparison to steel and glass, plastic has a much lower thermal conductivity, so it will sweat a lot less than steel or glass. In addition to this, the wall of the bottle is much thicker than glass or steel bottles, so the thermal resistance of the wall is much higher. I guess to answer your question, the humidity will condense, but relative to other bottles, not that much, it's dry inside right now because it's winter out though, so can't really tell what it'll do in the summer.
      Also, due to the high thermal resistance of the walls, cold water stays cold longer, and hot water stays hot longer inside the bottle, compared to steel or glass bottles. I can test this tomorrow night and let you know how it does.
      Hope that helps! Cheers, David.

    I wish you would have gone over cleaning methods for the wide mouth. I have scrubbed my bottle for hours and it still smells like ball sack.

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  5 лет назад +1

      Hi, you're right. Should have gone over that! For mine, I just use Dawn dish soap and it seems to clean it well, cleaning should be done each day to maximize cleanliness. But once a week should do it. Unless you use it a lot, then it should be cleaned each night, before the bacteria can grow overnight and make it smell like sweaty ball sack. I would soak it in a high concentration of dish soap overnight, that should get rid of any smells. Scrub it with a bottle brush too, if you don't have one, a dish cloth and spoon should work. Good luck!
      If you still need more, use lemon juice, or baking soda to try to remove the odour.
      Cheers,
      David.

    So the water doesn’t start tasting like plastic??

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  6 лет назад +1

      Nope, I'm pretty picky and I don't mind drinking water out of this thing.
      If you try really hard, you can smell the plastic, but as for tasting it, I don't have a problem with that. Obviously taste and smell are linked though, so you may "taste" the plastic when drinking out of it, but I've tried pouring the water out into a glass to drink, and it's not bad.
      If you're really sensitive, you may notice something, but this will be the best plastic bottle you'll get, which won't add taste to water. The only better method is to get a glass bottle.

They are good engineers and it's constructed very well.
      I'm not sure if any other manufacturer will beat them in quality, function and price.

      Ya, it's bpa-free plastic. Strong stuff, and should be very safe for drinking from, with no known side effects.
      Cheers,
      David.

    Stainless steel>>>>>>plastic

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  7 лет назад +2

      Ya, I think so too, but I drop my bottle a lot and stainless gets dented a lot, and also the brass thread insert is a dissimilar metal so there's the funny taste that occurs because of that. The liquid also is more insulated in plastic so it stays cold longer and the bottle sweats less. I like using plastic for an everyday water bottle.
      But everyone has their preference.

      ***** Weird, non of my SS bottles have any brass insert. Insulation is an issue but they make hydro flask (tons of companies have the same design on amazon for cheaper) that keeps water cold longer than plastic. Dropping the bottle would be a bigger issue on an insulated one though

    • @DavidSunshine
      @DavidSunshine  7 лет назад +1

      Oh ya, some stainless has the threads right in the stainless by using a large cap and large threads, that solves that problem.
      Stainless is good though, it's used for many containers for food and liquids.
      If the mouth opening can be big as the Nalgene that would be good, as it lets you put in ice cubes that can keep cool all day.
      I have used both and I still keep going back to the Nalgene.

      There is a stainless steel wide mouth bottle made by Nalgene, you might want to have a look since you like this one so much.

      Überlebe! Thanks for the heads up! I'll check it out, and bet lots of people looking for a good stainless steel bottle will appreciate it. I've been using a Platapus Plus Bottle, it's a collapsible bottle, basically an intravenous bag with a water bottle mouth lol. it's pretty awesome I think. I'll have to do a review on it after some usage.
      Cheers,
      David.

      Lol, I wouldn't go that far, but to be fair, they do make some stuff that's pretty good when they're under proper supervision.
      Unfortunately, when companies try to maximize profits, the quality goes way down and the consumer suffers. I think that's the stigma surrounding "Made in China" goods, but to be fair to the consumer, it's a warranted reputation.

      Cool, you'll be happy with the Nalgene!
      I forgot to say, put some duct tape on it, it becomes really handy when you find yourself in need of some tape. It has come in handy a number of times.
      Cheers!

    I have Ozark Trail water bottle with ALL the same features BUT a way better lid & way CHEAPER. Kicks Nalgenes ass

      Nice! Glad you found a better bottle at a cheaper price! It's always good to find an alternative product that provides a better lid at a lower price!
      I always liked the Nalgene bottles because they were Made in the USA, from Tritan polycarbonate, but ya that can make it cost more unfortunately.
      Thanks for letting us know if this cheaper alternative!
      Cheers!
      David.
