- Here's a commercial for another of the infamously cheap wines of the 1970s - Thunderbird. Here a slick dude woos his disco lady with a suggestion to "Shake 'em Up! - Together" by adding grapefruit juice and shaking (but not stirring). A "Great New Taste". American Aperitif Wine. Thunderbird, Ltd - Modesto, California.
"Wow! Totally together - now you get some!"
This aired on local Chicago TV on Wednesday, July 13th 1977 during the 10:00pm to 10:30pm timeframe.

What's the word, Thunderbird!
What's the price, twice as nice!
Remember seeing these commercials Saturday nights during Soul Train. "What's the word Thunderbird ‼️" "You've got the Style Thunderbird's got the taste‼️" And then there were the Billy Dee Williams Colt 45 commercials along with Afro Sheen and Dark and Lovely 😢
Billy Dee, 'Don let da smoove tas foo' ya!'
Fred Sanford approved
Especially when Ripple is unavailable.
@@andyrose5616 or mix Thunderbird and Ripple .....he calls it Thipple
Stone Cold Steve Austin also approves. Ask Jake " The Snake" Roberts. 😂
Fred was a Ripple man
@@MrBeardsley He would drink other wine on occasion and or mix it with Ripple
When company was coming over and you needed something classier than Mad Dog 20/20.
Or Wild Irish Rose😂
@@Oldeagle66 Man.... I got drunk on that one time stuck in a Blizzard. Its all we had to drink. The next day I could have crapped through a screen door lol.
@@troynov1965 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ah, the good old days; my favorite was Richard’s Wild Irish Rose 100% Grape Wine and clam juice..
🤣😂🤣
Imagine your whole advertising campaign being “Our wine sucks so much you have to mix it with juice just to enjoy it”.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ouch. Had some really bad hangovers with Thunderbird and Mad Dog 2020.
Don’t forget wild Irish rose
And Boone’s Farm and Annie Greensprings.
And Cold Duck!
and cisco😂
Pass the word!
Thunderbird was produced by Ernest & Julio Gallo.
Initially released in 1957.
When you want to get drunk on a budget - accept no substitutes!
70s way too cool stuff! 🕺
This is ten levels of cool😆
My mother did a GOOD JOB keeping Me from seeing STUFF I wasn’t supposed to see in the 70’s.
I HAD NO CLUE ABOUT THIS COMMERCIAL ! Until JUST NOW ! 🤣
She didn’t do a GREAT JOB. I STILL snucked and watch “ ON TV & SPECTRUM “
( YA’LL ALREADY KNOW WHAT I WAS WATCHING ! I’m a SCORPIO 🦂
WHAT DID YOU THINK I WAS WATCHING !
🍆🥑🌊
Wow, at 17.5 APV that is stronger than most mixed drinks, plus the fortifying alcohol comes in 55 gallon drums or those big plastic containers.
the forced "black" accent is hilarious! no folk I grew up with and in my family, and even today, spoke/speak like that...but that's how you got jobs (as shown in "Hollywood Shuffle")😂😂😂fabulous, thank you for the memories!
😂
True classic film.
@@ReglazeRX absolutely🤣🤣🤣
Hollywood Shuffle ....thats the movie I was thinking it reminded me of! I could not think of its title.
@@troynov1965 TOMMMAAAAAY YOU KILLED MY BRUTHUHHHH
@@ReglazeRX Hi Im Robert Taylor....... im a graduate of The Black Acting School,
They forgot to add its the official drink of wine -o's, and can be used as fuel for combustion engines 😂
😭
Sloppy drunk like a wine-o.
Fun fact: E&J Gallo created Thunderbird after market research showed stores in “skid row” neighborhoods often sold bottles of cheap white wine alongside packets of lemonade mix and Kool-Aid. Poor people in search of a buzz would dump the powder in the bottle and shake it up. When Thunderbird first launched, Gallo representatives allegedly scattered empty bottles around the same neighborhoods that inspired the beverage.
oh wow!!!!!!
I say this is a Saturday Night Live skit
Shake em up!
This isn’t as bad as the Orson Wells spots, but it’s close.😂😂😂
0:17 Probably overheard after this line was recorded - "Perfect! No need for a take two! Nobody in their right mind is going to drink this stuff anyway!"
I hate that i missed out on the Disco Era. 😂
Wow, A Flea Market in a bottle!😂
Pretty 70s Flavor
Oh Yeah, I remember those days. With grapefruit juice.
At least once, Johnny Carson skewered these "cheap wines" in his Art Fern "Tea Time Movie" sketches. One such time was him hawking "Grape Gut Wine."
The grapefruit will get you drunk even faster, it slows down your metabolism…
Hells yeah! ✨🍷✨
Any fortified wine, especially if it has a metal screw on cap....
I always preferred Night Train myself
So bartles n jaymes were appropriators😂
There was a movie made about this type of minority advertising. It was called (Drop Squad).
Shake them up then you throw them up
Goodnamufugga! Foreal! Gnomesain?!
Whats the word.....😂
Too bad Orson Welles chose Paul Mason over Thunderbird. He REALLY could've shaken up that dance floor!
