  • Sorry We Missed You is a 2019 British drama film directed by Ken Loach, written by Paul Laverty and produced by Rebecca O'Brien.
Principal photography began in September 2018 in the Newcastle area in north-east England. It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. Despite having a broken arm in a sling, Loach appeared to promote the film at Cannes, where he said that it would be his final film to compete at the festival. It received the audience award for best European film at the 2019 San Sebastián International Film Festival
The film is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on November 1, 2019, and in the United States on March 6, 2020.
Ricky (Kris Hitchen) and his family have been fighting an uphill struggle against debt since the 2008 financial crash. An opportunity to wrestle back some independence appears with a shiny new van and the chance to run a franchise as a self employed delivery driver. It's hard work, and his wife's job as a carer is no easier. The family unit is strong but when both are pulled in different directions everything comes to breaking point.

Hiya Mark, every time I receive a parcel delivery from Amazon or any delivery service I always give the person a good sweetie or box of biscuits, Also, I sometimes just let them pick what they want out of a box that I keep full of goodies especially for them. They deserve it. x

Thank you for a heartfelt review if this film. I usually delete your film reviews withiut viewing as I don't often go to see films but this Is one that sounds very good, I work for myself yet the last 5 years there has been no birthday presents, Christmas presents or holidays. There is light at the end of the tunnel and we are turning a corner. I imagine there are thousands of working and middle class families in the same boat and society need the Ken Loaches of this world to shine a light that reflects real life for many people.

I have been there and the stress is beyond anything!!! had a stroke in the midst of it all, poverty and the debt trap, odds stacked against us, etc..It all just catches up with you! Am at Uni now and grateful to have survived..dont start me though on the being on the sick and having to go to court to prove i was etc.. I Danial Blake syndrom.. and the being degraded by people at DWP..CAPITA etc nearly finished me off..but i am a fighter/survivor and managed to play them at their own game,! God knows how any one more vulnerable than me coped..Too many suicides with these self serving Tory Bastards! Is it any wonder??

Thankyou for this review Mark, I volunteer at a foodbank and see directly the result of zero hour contracts. The impact on families having to choose wether to buy food or heating and the impossibility to get out of the situation. It is vital that the issues get into the public knowledge and this film is an important part in doing so. Just like I, Daniel Blake which I highly recommend watching. Thankyou again for the review x

I got tickets to see it for free, I agree with your review, I can’t get an amazon parcel now without thinking about this film, and I’m very nice to the delivery people, cos I feel sorry for them, most of the guys who deliver for amazon seem to be immigrants, this Tory govt need kicking out, there’s no way Corbyn would allow something like this to happen. It does make me feel a bit guilty getting stuff from amazon, they’re such a shitty company and have been treating their workers badly for years and they’re tax dodgers they need correcting.

I’ve still not watched “I, Daniel Blake”which is very similar, so I don’t think I’ll be able to watch as it’s too close to home. However, I appreciate that it will illustrate the mess that low income, disabled, unemployed people face.

    Hi Mark ,
Good review as always. I really like a lot of Ken Loach's work. If you haven't seen it you should check out The Wind That Shakes the Barley. A Loach film about the the Irish Civil War in 1922.

I liked your review, but sharing your personal brush with the director simply killed it; it has no place in the review of any movie, I think.
