1 New AI vs 7 Old AIs

The Old AI builds walls, thinking it will help.
And it does, as the new AI attacks the wall, when it could just go around.

I love how the red AI put a gate at the border wall as well. Not only did it wall up the edge of the map, but it also put a gate there.
Just in case it needs to access the void.
It actually makes perfect sense. You see, the Red heard about the great powers of Amon, so he is ready, if everything goes to shit, to try his luck and make a pact with Amon itself, but he build the walls as well because he dosen't want to risk Amon invading his kingdom if thr pact dosen't work as planned. It all make sense now.

It's because even old AI knows: AI will attack gates with absolute impunity, no matter what else is near.

But when I saw what new AI explored with scout... mdems probably he had some other ideas in his mind (new AI troll? :D)
ps. my idea why new AI is not aggressive - because let lower tier players survive. If he gonna drush with 4-5men at arms, scouts, archers/scirms+spiers, fast castle age knights, crosbows it can be hard for new players aka newbies. BUt in my mind its kinda bad, because your not ready for multiplayer.
I played aoe2 almoust from beggining and never got 28-35 vil castle age etc.. ofc when i got my tactic( save some resources and slowly boom/save resources while build the walls) if AI rush me early i probably would check in google how to beat AI, would know about build orders etc. I was kinda okay even with 1v7 gold rush map (used ''pause'' sometimes when nessesary)

Hey, if I was the wall-builder and I discovered a sheer drop into an inscrutable black void next to my village, I'd probably build a wall along it too. To keep my people from falling off, and to hopefully delay any eldritch gods or daemons which might therein reside from encroaching on our territory and stealing our sheep.

Honestly I've never understood why the later AI never wall and in games like fortress/hideout etc actively destroy their start walls when they reach castle age.
At least for hideout, deleting walls keeps players from walling their gates off, makes getting boars easier too. Looks like a easy, but not great solution.

Considering it is comprised of clips of footage from tons of different tests and videos he's done I think that would take a looooong time.

I wonder how the new AI was implemented. The previous one was just a hardcoded set of rules with very coarse control of the units. Maybe they implemented the CD version AI by taking their modern ai selectively dumbing it down in certain areas to make it more like the hd AI. That would explain it doing some "advanced" tactics like repairing its siege units.
You really gotta take a minute to appreciate all the work that went into the architecture. How one make new buildings from an existing style that itself is never fully explained design wise I will never understand. Along with the animations for the destruction. @Honudes Gai GREETINGS PROFESSOR FALCEN. SHALL WE PLAY A GAME?
It was awesome to watch you commentating on what the AI should be doing. I could imagine in 5-10 years time if someone developed an even better AI that also understands voice commands. Then you could have a veteran player direct the overall strategy to an AI that then micro-manages everything for the player. That could be quite interesting to watch. Then it really moves from being a standard RTS game where strategy + APM is king to a purely mental game like chess or go.
That sounds so amazing, it could replace flirting with carpal tunnel by spamming hotkeys and being frustrated by pathing while fighting to actually feeling like a general calling the shots
It seems like you didn't notice, but Bleda the Hun was fk slinging, especially to red. That's why its score was so low all game. It blew my mind that the old AI can do this.

I did this exact experiment but on regicide and I've come to a personal conclusion that the DE AI is affected by what civ it is playing.
On the first game the DE AI was Bulgarians and it lost really early. Barerly had any units and it got overrun quickly. Lots of idle time.
On the second game it was Spanish and it looked like the same thing as the first game would happen again but somehow the DE AI prevailed and it managed to get a good enough economy to start pushing back until it won.

I did the same test with two major differences: I picked Cumans for the new AI and increased the pop limit to 300 instead of 200, and the DE AI actually _did_ wipe the floor with the old ones. It wasn't even close. So they may not have lied when they said that's what they saw. They might just not have tested on the same map and rules setup as you.

@@Manuel1995BEL The new AI had 50k military score alone, probably 70k total. The strongest CD AI (cyan) was at less than 19k, team average capped at less than 8k, I think.
Pop limit being 300 is already not a 1v7...it's more like a 1.5v7 at that point. Unless all 7 AI also increased their pop to 300.
Early Cumans are broken, let the DE AI try it again with the nerfed cumans.
Also devs said "every single time wipe the floor" this is pretty absolute even 1 case would disprove the devs so clearly they are wrong.
@@whisperwalkful I do not need to prove anything to you, and there is no way one of us can prove to the other how truthful the devs were when they said what they said. To be honest, I do not overly care. It was an obvious marketing move during a convention that is obviously only there to build up hype rather than inform the consumer. I wish that that were different, but it is how it is. If you want to talk about my or Spirit's test game, feel free to, but please do not see me as your enemy.
It was a standard game, so every player had the same 300 pop cap. I started recording this game after Spirit released his video, already knowing the AI would lose if not given more bonuses, so obviously I tried to tweak the parameters more in their favour. Doing the opposite would just have very obviously resulted in another loss.

6:10 Maybe it’s just coincidence, but at the moment barrack and feudal age finished at the same time chills my spine somehow
Same here
Hit the first hit on the barracks when you’re 60% of the way to feudal and this happens every time. A simple matter to program, and useful in game so you can drop the next building right next to it.... archery range, blacksmith, depends what you want
I guess you have to give it to the new AI for holding out 01:19 (+1Hour) against all odds. Also, I see the biggest problem at the early stage was it was not able to decide which one to attack, as you can see the units moving back and forth. AI has this weakness if you attack its town the entire attacking army will return back to defend its town.
Actually holding out for 1 hr isnt impressive at all considering the old AI doesnt upgrade its shit, has no boars and just booms all the way. Basically the old AI's strategy is to leave alone for 30 mins.

1v5 or 2v8
I always found the old ai to rush at early castle age, once it threw that fairly large army at you it was basically done. The new one i feel just cheats it bring out lots of skirmishers/archers and starts to micro them away perfectly, even against mangonels which is just stupid.
4:44 WHAT!? Look at the AI lure that deer in PERFECTLY.
It would be funny if the 7 AI just sent over all their villagers and instantly overwhelmed the 1 enemy they have
"My peasant huts were all facing different directions." That's the explanation the blue AI gave for why it lost.
seems legit
Does anybody else wish that watch towers could be integrated Into the walls and units can walk along and fire from them? Be far more realistic.
When I first started playing I figured that was a game mechanic lol
As a kid I used to make custom maps with a fortress made from cliffs, so my archers could stand between them as if they were on walls haha.
But I don’t think I’d care for it in AoE2. Would be cool to see in AoE4 tho
Stronghold Crusaders: Allow me to introduce myself
I know you're comparing the two different AIs out of the 3 or so made (between original, HD and this version), but I remember when this game was relatively new the AI would often just like, quit the game within minutes with some message like "All my houses faced east. No wonder thou were't victorious" or if they lost their first like 3 man-at-arms or whatever they made they'd decide they weren't coming back and quit instantly too, unless you put them on regicide so they had the king and felt they couldn't quit unless the king died.
It's part of why they made an option in 3 to straight up disable the computer's ability to resign, as a compromise between 2's auto resign immediately vs. the first game where you had to *painstakingly* hunt down *every single* villager or building, the AI would run into the woods to hide from you.
Or you'd roll up and find them just.. sitting there in their starting position. Like at least one was always like that, no matter what. You kind of always had to set the game up for +1 more AI than you actually wanted to face because one was always just going to sit there in the Dark Ages and if you're lucky they'd be chopping wood or digging a berry bush maybe, stockpiling 30 thousand food but not buying a single unit, but that's it.
So the fact you had AI actually.. doing anything at all makes me think it's not the original version.
This game will not die, I've been playing for 15 yrs and tried new games as well, but always come back to this one, mostly because Microsoft put the editor with the game.👍
4:48
look at the scout and the deer, wow, hes bringing the deer to the tc
This was fun! Would like to see more of these with different setups/civs!
This is how humans beat Sky Net: We make 7 more Sky Nets.
I think it deserves another shot. It lost its scout really early, which could have effected its choices later on. Ontop of this, most late game civs were in a relatively safe position. The huns would have been easier for the AI to go up against if it happened to spawn next to the ai, as it would not be as hung up on clutter like houses etc. Even if it actually ended up forcing red to resign, it might have been able to safely get the gold it desparately needed. I would be interested in watching another video like this.
I miss the intro every time you say let's check it out
I just watched all of that. I loved the comparison, man! we need a 2v6
That comment from the devs was a lie yep. It clearly meant 1vs7 and not FFA. The AI is better for sure! But there is still some room to improve of course
I remember that in AoC the AI would wall but not close gaps like when wood lines got cut later. The unofficial fan-patch back then fixed that but with the side effect that the AI would replace destroyed gates with walls - trapping themselves eventually inside their own base.
Maybe 2 vs 6 will do it, since they have trade for the late-game. 1 vs 7 was a bit much.
I recall the ai using workers to repair siege weapons in the forgotten empires mod. Considering that was incorporated into the HD edition, it would make sense they might have left the ai mods in.
Red is afraid of dark.
4:54 are you kidding me? the ai is 'pushing' a deer towards the town center with the scout. what a flex on human players' ability to micro-manage stuff lol
Spirit, can you do a video in which you compare Two-Man Saw vs Crop Rotation? I wonder which is better for your wood eco.
not sure if you're trolling… but crop rotation is for farms... wich is a food source. how does that affect your wood income in any way other then being able to produce villagers
@@cherrydragon3120 The less often you need to replant farms the more wood you save. So both allow you to increase your available wood supply.
@@cherrydragon3120 No it's a wood buff. Because reseeding farms cost wood. With Crop Rotation farms last longer so you safe wood.
im pretty sure two man saw would still be better unless you have over a 100 farmers in a several hour long game
@@cherrydragon3120 Not sure if YOU'RE trolling too when you didn't get what the question meant. Yes Crop Rotation technically just buffs farms but since the buff is for capacity instead of farming speed, in practise that means your food just costs less wood to produce. Hence, it's better for your wood economy. The food gain rate stays the same.
This brings me the idea that people could program new AIs and let them fight against each other.
