@@abxaudiophiles I am a recent convert to good power filters - I *love* my Pine Tree Audio Iso-Power filter! It is a bargain at $175-250 for a unit with 2-8 outlets. It is rated at 15A and is not very complex, but it does work to very noticeably improve the sound quality of my system; along with their Iso-Braid AC power cables.

@abxaudiophiles transistors turn a small electrical signal into a bigger one (amplifying it) they can be used for switching also. I believe that's how they are used in SMPS.

Iron Worker audiophile? I think I finally found the audio tribe I belong in!
I repair welding equipment for a living and I am building an electronics repair bench for my growing audio gear repair hobby.
About the heat sink compound - cleaning it off and replacing it is always a good idea.
Be careful not scratch the aluminum heat sink surface.
Using thermal pads with paste, especially old dried out paste may not be such a good plan.

Solder suckers and the fluxed wicking braid both work well. Worth having both. Saw a video where a series of pins can be desoldered and removed in in one operation by first soldering a solid copper solid wire along each joint. Then heat the copper bar with a heavier hot tip and the copper bar heats all connections in one heating source and melts every joint by conduction.

Well if the paste is dry remove it if it's still wet pliable than you'll be alright but you don't want to put it on dry paste it won't transmit the heat. Best capacitors are power capacitors work out about a dollar to $10 depending on size they have the lowest resistance of all capacitors Kermit capacitors are the best longevity. When you took out the caps all you would do is heat the lead and suck the solder on each side you could pull out the cap in 30 sec. or less.

When people say cleaner power, what are they referring to?
I believe many of people don't understand what they're talking about.
My call sign is VK1NME, so I'm an amateur operator, if a variance of the AC sine wave was going to change the audio sinusoidal waves of an amplifier, well what do you think would happen to a radio transmitting at 28,000,000hz? It's like comparing shooting cans at 30 yards to shooting target rifle at 1100 yards, one little error at 1100 and it's a massive amount at the target.
If AC power made such a difference you would see people using 12v batteries.
In Ham radio, we do, not because of the "dirty" power, but because the power supply will make radio noise that the reciver will magnify.
Some audio people see what we do in radio land and apply that to audio without knowing fully why we do what we do.
Bob Heil was a great Ham and audio engineer, he wouldn't use AC power conditioners lol.
AC mains power is clean, what power companies mean by dirty is a shift in frequency, but that is like .1hz over 1 minute if that, hardly rectifiable and hardly a golden ear could hear it if at all.

Well, all I can say, is swing by and sit and listen. The P600 comes with the "MultiWave" board has a wide variety of settings. All of these make a pretty noticeable difference. Also, removing the P600 from the system and going back to a standard power strip (had it set up and swapped back in about 1 minute) was a HUGE difference. A measurable difference in background noise, resolution and detail retrieval, and soundstage width and depth.. Just don't ask me how it works, I have no clue.. HA

Paul's regenerators are probably the best in the business..They are basically an amp that regenerates the ac signal to clean ac.. The new ones work slightly differently..However I did a rewire and that does cost a lot with a really good ground. It is the best. Looks like a 1 or 1.5 KVA frame tranny, much cheaper & magnet field inducing than an equivalent toroidal t/former. Still, with basic components, it ain't that expensive to convert A.C. to D.C. & back to A.C. again, so I suppose you pay for the name & hi-fi public's respect for certain the $5'K jobs, the casing they threw about looks like the single most expensive part here. I'd have done the same total internal inspection as you did, I could hardly wait for the replaced cap' upgrades on this unit. I never heard any difference when I borrowed one, but the varying quality of mains counts, cheap half-wave rectifiers on cheap electrical gear puts D.C. on yer mains line, even if it's coming from a house up the road on the same street main's circuit from local sub-stations.
P.S. there's a miss conception that electricity flows out your plug like water, there is an analogy but only relating vallances of electrons passing down a wire, but all out electrical equipment sits in-between your neutral & live wires, & as it's A.C. = in both directions, it don't matter if your the nearest house or the furthest house away from a main power or local sub power station, a polluted mains effects all houses ='y along the grid's lines. Maybe because I live rurally, very few houses around local substation, I get far less polluted (by D.C. put back on the A.C. line from half-wave rectifiers & such like, so heard no difference, I won't say which because I like the companies philosophy
    P.S. I love his companies phono stage I'd had for 18'months & loved their older pjono-stsges & pre-amps... .. .

"ABX audiophiles" - proceeds to use a bunch of superlatives and adjectives to tell us his subjective thoughts with zero ABX testing, about a product which is highly questionable from an objective standpoint. True ABX tests eliminate a LOT of the audiophile BS. When you have your amp raised up on special feet, like that matters, you know you're not dealing with an objective audiophile. Maybe the power conditioner helped, maybe it didn't, with no ABX test or measurements we will never know; all we get are subjective memory-based impressions.
