I’d put the Sleepys and Little Birdy a little higher. The Sleepy Jackson were one of the most critically acclaimed bands globally at the time and their Lovers album was sublime. And Little Birdy were critical and commercial darlings for years. But overall really good list man. Love you’re shining a light on WA music. So much good stuff here!
Full Scale (Deflection) were hugely popular trailblazers for Perth's hard rock/prog metal scene. They signed a major record deal in LA with Sony and toured USA extensively. Great list though, well done.
Good research and some well-deserved bands there. Triffids had to be No. 1! I would've had The Honeys in there (particularly high up, too!), as well as Voyager...don't discount them just because they were on Eurovsion. :)
I was just going to post this "what about" also. I tried researching where the From The Suburbs band was formed but the bio only mentioned a prior band, Pus, and that they were Oz's first punk band, in Dave's own words...
As well as Dave Warner you missed The Helicopters” one of the greatest original bands from Perth. Huge at the cottosloe, the Shents, The Subiaco hotel. Releasing cassettes and vinyl records. They were huge in Perth.
I don't think they ever had any commercial success, but saw these fellas live several times and thought they were great. The Screw Top Detonators. Rock on

Good job. Imagine if the lead singer of The Triffids lived longer. Great band. I think San Cisco should be higher because we don't produce many pure pop/twee indie bands.
Didn't have great success outside of Perth but were a very successful pub band in the 80s playing all originals (which was rare back then) - Perfect Strangers!
The only bands I know or heard about are Spacey Jane, Little Birdy, Gyroscope, The Sleepy Jackson, The Panics, Karnivool, Pendulum, The Injectors/Diesel, San Cisco, Eurogliders, The Waifs, Birds of Tokyo, The John Butler Trio, Jebediah, Eskimo Joe, Tame Impala and The Triffids But still a very interesting list are you going to do some lists for bands from other Australian Countries
wheres Dave Hole or Jamie Page or John Meyer, Warren Morgan, Snowy Fleet lives and has a studio here so should he be on the list? The Valentines and Bon? Mark Lizotte?
They're a traditional , hard rock, progressive band that can actually play and write good songs, that rules them out with these elitist snobs that compile these bogus lists.
Allegiance were one of the biggest Aussie metal bands of the 90s that played huge shows and had a debut album go straight to number one in the WA Aria charts.
Although they barely released more than one album's worth of songs, the Manikins are in my top ten W.A. bands for sure. Premonition is a classic and all the other songs are very good to excellent.
I saw the Sleepy Jackson as the support act for Fourth Floor Collapse, who, at the time (late 90s?) were the hot new local band that all the “destined for greatness” buzz was about. That didn’t quite pan out.
Interesting, a few I never knew were from WA. Though, there's no way Johnny Diesel and the injectors aren't Number one, well perhaps the eskies? Loved the Eurogliders
For sure, still playing although in a bit of a different direction🤭... also guitarist john Myer... and the best aussie bassist/singer ever... jon Ryder.
I don't want to appear a tosser BUT I think you may find that the Triffids were on the cover of the NME, not Rolling Stone. I never missed a show of theirs if I could help it.
you might be correct there, i didnt double check that and assumed my memory was correct when i thought it was the rolling stone. Thanks for the pick up :)
I bet Saracen /Trilogy and Black Alice are not on this list as Hard Rock and Heavy metal has always put down and ignored in this state. These original bands had huge crowds locally and released amazing albums celebrated overseas especially and btw they could actually play! The Boys ? Oh please!! The Dugites, a silly throwaway pop band long forgotten.

I’ve never understood why INXS are classified as a WA band (this was particularly bad around the time of the Channel 7 mini-series a few years back)… they’re as NSW as they come
Started out as a cover band in Perth under the name Farris Brothers. As soon as they wanted to perform and record original stuff they gapped it to the East Coast. I can see why people want to claim them, but they don't feel local to WA to me at all either.
Not really. Ferris bros are Perth boys originally and Michael was living in Geraldton in the late 70s when they formed ..that's pretty WA to me 😁 same with hoodoo gurus ..
San Cisco got to be much higher IMHO. SO many good songs over a long period of time compared to others. Putting Birds of Tokyo over them is lunacy, they're like a cheesy record exec's idea of what a rock band should be. They absolutely suck. Eskimo Joe? LOL The Triffids continue to be over rated, truth is they were quite dull live, with two or three good songs, one great one and a whole bunch of meh. Tame Imapala at 1, San Cisco at 2 for mine.

My young friend (I'm guessing you are by your choices).......There were way more credible and influential bands in the late 70's and early 80's.....you should prefix this by saying...."In my opinion"!!!!
I appreciate your comment and see where you might be coming from but I feel that I researched this quite well and bands from the late 70's and 80's are well represented in this list. I know of many other Perth bands from the era you have referred to but i don't believe any others crack the top 30 when it comes to a combination of influence, popularity, success and artistry. Essentially, thats the combination that I based this list on. remember from 70s til now there is 50 decades of music that has been made and I feel my list represents a wide spectrum of those decades. Around a third of the 30 I listed are from the era you refer to. Yet there have been 3 decades worth of music made after the 80's and the sheer amount of bands that have existed in WA 90s til now far out-ways the amount of trailblazers from the past. In turn, I might suggest you could state in your opinion who you think should be included on the list and who should be removed. I'm open to the discussion. Thanks for watching and commenting :)
@@solitudeausmusic Never Never should be on there The Stockings should be on there and you could easily take off The Someloves The Stems and San Cisco also Eskimo Joe such overrated bands

I suppose you could debate someloves inclusion, but I don't feel your offerings are greater than the someloves.
@undae When making a general list called 'top 30 X,Y or Z' popularity is usually a major factor taken into account. I appreciate you believe there are better WA bands that you think should be included, but you are basing that far more on your opinion than the objective parameters i have based my list on. All while claiming I should have stated 'in my opinion' in your original comment...

Awesome video. I was fortunate enough to be old enough to go to the pubs all through the 80s and I remember seeing all these great Perth 80's bands.
