    This judge sounds like a human being. Steal a guys wheelchair? Well done Englewood PD. I hope he got it back. The second case was a real heartbreaker. That guy was clearly of restricted understanding. Did he really understand what rights he was waiving? What mediaeval torture sect do Englewood belong to? Trespassing in public parks and the sidewalk. Where the heck are these homeless people supposed to go? How can these prosecutors stand there condemning people who have no money, no home, no resources, no mental health support. So he was warned about trespassing. Well whoopy doo. Mr Prosecutor you judgemental jerk. You steal his stuff you trespass him and harass him you give him no health treatment he’s clearly struggling but you stand there in your fancy suit and talk shit on people. 😡Where the f**k is he meant to go instead? What purpose in fining people who have no money, further criminalising them? What a waste of court time, police time and prosecutors. As a society why do we allow this travesty of the human condition? Well said Mrs Peek. Defence attorney was a much use as a man short. The judge was the one who put forward defence more than he did!!

    • @ReganBenson
      @ReganBenson  10 месяцев назад +5

      @@judithmatthews8460 well, they have a new court navigator. It’s a part time position. Met the guy just before Christmas. Intelligent, professional… but it’s a job that’s mostly tasked with in summary, ending homelessness with no resources. He can’t make these service providers do their jobs.
      But I do think the position serves as a good cushion for people to report to on how services are or aren’t working. Like AllHealth.
      Remember that contract EW has with them through the PD to provide homeless case management and they provide zero homeless case management.

    I was in Englewood yesterday, just blocks away from Dartmouth and Broadway. The homeless problem continues to grow and criminalizing homelessness just adds to the problem. I’ve said it a lot right? A society continues to define itself on how it treats its weakest, sickest and poorest.
      While the government floods the country with immigrants. We’ve no problem with leaving the most vulnerable citizens in our country, veterans included, to die on the streets. In fact, the majority of this civilized society cheers it on and enjoys watching it, DEMANDING more force be used on these people while the other minority population actually thinks government is going to solve the problem.
      What could go wrong in a civilized nation at this rate?

Back then, the mayor, whom I forget his name, held most meetings in executive session. I’ve watched him over the years now and he gets it right on the homeless issue when it comes to closing cases. Those EW cops are just as bad as Denver to the unhoused- worse in a lot of cases.
      However… in that second hearing @10:00 - he’s slapping down the infamous area restrictions on public property and that doesn’t set well with me. THIRTY FOUR cases of trespassing for Mr. Peek. That’s some outrageous BS.

  • @AB-et1ug

    This appears to be a revolving door that does absolutely nothing to help anyone except shame, guilt trip & basically further ostracise the ostracised- to what end? Advising this man he is less than & needs to just disappear from the earth - great help to this individual who more than likely suffers from mutiple complex issues that will just drive him further into despair if that is at all possible - how on earth does any of this assist this man or anyone at all. What kind of world is this that people are just further damaged by a system that doesn’t really care. So very sad that an individual already suffering a TBI among many other issues - this all just seems like the court is sending this man to his certain death especially as he is so vulnerable & clearly struggling, even in the court. This is just so very sad & disconcerting that this poor man has no rights even in public areas. How is he to plead when he has to be told where these public places are just further illustrates this vunerable man is not well & his brain is damaged. Why is it that none of these judges see how this is not helping this man at all. I am so very sad at this outcome.❤ Where do you want me to go? - that says it all - such a sad statement but more so an indictment on a society that cannot come up with anything better than cancelling this man's human rights to be in public & a right to life, health & a roof over his head. Devastating to watch this 😢 💔

    He seems nice but how are these people supposed to get to the court navigator’s office? Perhaps the court could help with that. It’s bad enough to prosecute a person who has no means, but then to unlock the cell door and say “off you go” with no money, no belongings, no way to get to where they can obtain services. Shameful .

      @@ReganBenson let’s also not be fooled by his suspension of court costs. He knows that to impose costs on someone without any financial means is a violation of the 14th amendment because it essentially ties the person up in a debtors prison system. The ACLU is working on getting this abolished as it violates the 14th and many judges are hesitant to be the one to hand the ACLU the fuel needed to move this along in the appellate courts. If the ACLU is successful, it could mean that no one (regardless of income) would have to pay court costs, and those fines and fees are where the government’s bread is buttered.

    I appreciate that the judge is trying more so than the nasty pigs who violate these poor individuals but also too the prosecutor & useless defence lawyer - are these pr-cks for real? Why is the court navigator only part time considering homelessness isn't & where do they navigate him to??, How about some constructive health care & mental health care along with somewhere to get this care for starters. This man will never be able to work as he is, due to all his health concerns, he needs long term rehabilitation & proper help not jail, fines & banned from public places - the insanity of all this is they may as well sentence him to death because that is what this court sentence is surely ensuring - some place away from public where nobody can even attempt to care about him & his welfare or for him to get lost with his TBI. Just so heartbreaking.😢
