  • This isn’t the original “Star Trek” set, but it comes eerily close. The Star Trek Set Tour - a 13,000-square-foot reproduction of the original TV show sound stage - is perfect for Trekkies and newbies alike. Owner (and Elvis impersonator) James Cawley spent 17 years and roughly $300,000 recreating the set in Ticonderoga, New York.

Even Captain Kirk himself made the trip upstate for “Christmas with the Captains,” a special holiday event. “There’s really no words to really communicate to you what it’s like having your hero here in your home,“ Cawley said after meeting William Shatner.

I was here years ago when it first opened. While it is all exact and perfect the ships corridor... the "hallway" struck me the hardest. It was SO exact, and so many scenes in the show take place there (talk and walk) that to stand there really felt like you were on the damn thing. The stuff even works... they let my wife throw the red alert switch in the hall... and sure enough it went off. Even if you just watched the show now and then, it's worth seeing this place as it is done so well. In fact some of the props are originals, including things in Kirks quarters. They even have an original tribble.

Mr. Cawley was also one of the pioneers who raised fan films to a much higher standard before lesser individuals brought stricter limitations from its corporate owners.

Nice to see younger fans there, that the original series stands the test of time. Of all the Star Trek bridge designs, the original is still the best.
