A spinnerbait is one of those baits that you can fish so many ways. To me, it's very much like a jig and I tend to fish them that way. Try this retrieve - slow roll it for a few cranks, then give it a quick couple of pops followed by a couple of quick cranks before back to slow rolling at again. Alternate all of that back and forth randomly. I've caught so many fish along grass lines and lay downs by doing that.
I got to say these vids on how to fish the lures you have covered really helps and it awesome to see your approach. Thanks so much, I look forward to these vids!
Thanks again Matt. Try pulling to the surface and slow roll down repeat as needed. You will notice they all hit either on the way up or the way down on a given day. Usually down .
I was on a good spinnerbait bite earlier this year straight retrieving it for the most part, but when I started sweeping/pumping the rod like you do I started getting twice as many bites, especially around cover
I get a lot from your retrieve videos. At the very least, keeps me continually looking to break up my retrieves, and impart some changes based on the conditions. Great stuff Matt
Years ago I used to straight retrieve almost everything with every cast. No more. I'm constantly pumping the rod and and changing things up. Great tip, Matt.
Matt, great tips. I knew about the last one, and have done the 2nd one kind of accidentally while burning it back. The first is kind of a new one to me. From your videos collectively though, I always try to stop n go retrieve in some form or fashion. Great info!
Hey Matt I have an idea…go down to the river for a scent test!!! Rig up about 5 exact lures ,lines , etc. setups… And try no scent and four with different scents…..and keep rotating all setups until you catch something!!!!!! Let’s do it!!!! And
Aw man, I do great on spinnerbaits- I'll have to fish it right now& see if I can't get bit more! Seriously though, like retreive#1- i sort of " change direction" on the bait to get that flare effect; I actually try to burn+wake the blades without blowin' em out-works great for me. I'll blow it out once or twice doin' that& see what hits.
Use a single colorado blade and fish it like a buzz bait. Makes a really great gurgling sound. I have caught a ton of fish over grass and points doing this.
Thats some very good advice for the retrieves, the first one you showed is what really works for me, especially with a double willow leaf spinnerbait, good job!
Good stuff for sure. I blame Jimmy Houston for the straight retrieve. He had that intro song on his fishing show.... 'Chunking and a-winding.... dreamin of finding an ole big mouth lying by a holllow log'.... Just kiddin about blaming J.H. thanks for the vid
Great tips. Other than slow rolling a spinner bait on the bottom I use these techniques on every horizontal bait I fish. Maybe a video on how to sharpen hooks would be advantageous for many people as spinnerbait hooks aren't as good or as sharp as the single hooks we buy these days
First off great video!! Growing soo fast this channel!!!! But I figured this out on my own when I caught 2 on a straight retrieve and next 20 mins nothing. I figured since I caught 2 it would be a pattern so I changed out the retrieve like a square bill and boom got my limit next 10 mins love a spinner bait bite especially when they choke it!!!
Can't wait to try that first retrieve! I do the other 2 , but use straight instead of first one. The bottom retrieve i use in cold water and at night. I gotta try it during day. Thanks. I usually use spinnerbait more with wind. On the bottom, is it being windy as important?
I've been trying to fish spinners more often and while looking for nicer spinners i found place that makes some nice baits called Taylor man's custom lures and pretty impressed with thier jigs, spinners and bladed baits, very well made, nice paint job and skirts.. they also have some crazy blade options with upto 7 willows or Colorado blades..
What are your thoughts on a pistol grip rod? I'm 48 and most of my life I've fished them and don't understand why they went away, they definitely have a place.
I'm sorry tell you that I've never seen that bait, but I can definitely tell that it would be good one, spinnerbaits don't get bites down here on the chic like they used to, I could be wrong since it's been a long time since I've thrown it! 🎣
Right on brother! My philosophy with a spinner bait is add action to it as it doesn't have a lot on its own. Bling is one thing but put it in their face and kill it or rip it away that the deal!

@@fishaholic122 Agree. High end, quality. Sensitivity, light, strong and a great drag system that casts very well. The rod and reel allow you to use smaller diameter lines that help in clear water for bites, feel, and action.

I dont think im being demeaning with my title. just that the majority of people dont know these retrieves. plus its kinda the name of the series now and lots of people have told me they are enjoying them.
@@MattStefanFishing I didn't say that I didn't like the videos. I just believe you could do better with the titles. I could say that it's 70% that don't know these retrieves. Reeling along the bottom like you would a crank bait will be a new technique for me that I’ll definitely try.

awesome!

Do you prefer a particular brand of spinner bait over another? Say like war eagle over terminator? What do you think of berkelys new spinnerbaits?
war eagle is my confidence bait at the moment. i havent tried berkleys new spinnerbaits but they look good.

I do some guiding but have put it on hold the past year
Do you ever use a trailer on a spinner bait? Would be interested in your thoughts as a possible video topic.
i prefer not but if i do it just a standard twin tail trailer

One of my best days on lake I was helicoptering a spinnerbait on stick ups.
very cool!
Movement, that's why my spinnerbaits work well. They are built with automatic movements. It is the highest level.

You already taught me how. Now I catch them on the spinnerbait
Great to hear!
I keep waiting for him to catch one while doing these demos haha
im surprised i havent yet
When he does ref. TW. Buy that lure ...and use his code and bookmark it !

🍺Imakatsu Helter Twister spinnerbait to be more specific.🤑
I'll check it out!
I love spinner baits. It's my first lure to throw but for some reason I only catch pikes with them. Never bass.
really?!?!
I like to dothe Hank Parker fade away at the end of lay-downs .
cant argue with hank parker!
After 2 Classics ... a hit show...and a killer spinnerbait ! Loss for words
