7 years loc’d here. Not free form but I don’t go to a salon either.. met my hubby 1 year after I started my locs and he said it was one of the first things that attracted him to me. Got married and he still loves my locs, oils my scalp, plays in my hair etc. when I was in my 20s I dated _boys_ that didn’t appreciate my natural hair. I didn’t respect them and it never lasted longer than a few weeks.
@@teethaqtee ooof, are you describing a scenario where you aren’t acknowledging history and biology? The female leader of a wolf pack asks lower wolves, or wolves from other packs how to interact with her male counterpart, right?
@It_Puts_The_Lotion_On_Its_Skin i didn't describe anything.. i asked a question... so.. to answer your question. No, I am not . But dating ...and chasing your dinner ...should be different , no ?
This is such a lie lmao. I have a Short Afro and have all types of black men after me. I’ve worn every type of style too and definitely get the most attention with my short fro .
😂 straight men aren't really that hung up on hair tho. Pretty face, good body, not crazy. Old boy on tiktok was trippin, but you made excellent points throughout the video
The conversation is nuanced. However, you can not disregard a particular black woman's experience. I can only speak for myself as one man. I will give my theory as to why this is some women's experience. At this stage in my life, as an older man, I realize many of my likes and preferences are not in alignment with the general public, or even the black general public for that matter. I have had these preferences since my mid-twenties. I like natural black women with strong features( i.e. wide noses, full lips, and "nappy" hair) with no makeup besides lipstick/gloss and eyeliner/ mascara. I prefer body hair as long as it's not on your chest, chin, and underarms. In my life the most beautiful black women I have seen either had locs, short hair, or no hair. I am a heterosexual, conservative black man. I'm not hotep or problack nor an effeminate male. Yet I enjoy and desire these features. I also realize I was born in a different time with a different mentality. When I was in high school and college we clowned women with fake hair. Even plastic surgery for vanity was frowned upon. Ultimately natural women are having these experiences with the black men is because they weren't brought up the way I was or saw the things I did. Also many women say men should not speak on their hair and should accept whatever they want to do with it. While I agree with that I would think you would want your significant other to honestly like your hair. At this point men are just ignoring the hair because they still want to sleep with them. As for your comments at the end I was feeling you. For one the law of attraction is always at work and two you are my preferred archetype hence feeling you. But forgive me for the lengthy comment just attempting to offer some thoughtful perspective.
It's not a generalization, tho. The way some black people judge black womens' locs (or any natural hairstyle) is a huge part of internalized prejudice. It is also reinforced and upheld by most workplaces. It's not the black community's fault, but it is a huge problem.
As a lesbian I am checking for women who are fine, with their own hair regardless of style and not into color in braids or women wearing weaves majority of the time. I am interested in women with morals so that means my checking is limited lol. His assessment: I wonder if he is using a sweeping generalization because straight women are generally waiting to be picked by men. Gender roles indicate men initiate, so maybe he is going based on stereotypes which we have seen in the real world from his observations, but not necessarily true. Stereotypes can be reinforced and lived but are usually not accurate and are more so self-fulfilling prophecies. He is too limiting on who people can attract and he is forgetting chemistry goes beyond the physical aesthetic. He makes me question his approach lol. On another note people rarely have true preferences that are innate. Many people are influenced by messaging and for black people we need to remember our sexualities have been controlled its up to us to remember who we are and what are desire and not have someone telling us what we are supposed to attract and be attracted to.

Im a black man. I believe that natural hair is beautiful on our women regardless of how to it may manifests itself.
