  • A version of Jeff Guerin's A&W March Brown Emerger. Jeff created this fly to imitate the emerger stage of the March Brown Mayfly and it is quite effective in the March Brown color, as well as other colors such as yellow and olive.     Materials:
    Hook: #14 Daiichi 1270 3x long curved multi-use hook (also TMC 200r, Saber 7015). These are light-wire hooks, not curved 3x nymph hooks.
    Thread: Your choice of tan or cream 70 denier or 8/0 thread.
    Tail: Large feather from Hungarian partridge wing - 12-15 fibers. Alternatives are any large, brown partridge feather or hen saddle feather.
    Soft Hackle: Appropriately sized feather from near the bottom of the partridge wing. Alternatives are any appropriately sized brown partridge feather or hen saddle feather.
    Dubbing: Approximation of Jeff's proprietary dubbing:
    Rear portion of body: [Hare's ear plus - 2 parts Dark, 2 parts natural, 1 part reddish-brown, .5 parts rusty orange. Rabbit - 1 part rusty brown, 1 part brown.] As an alternative, any March Brown dubbing that is reddish-brown.
    Front portion of body: Rabbit - 1 part tan and 1 part cream. As an alternative, either tan or cream.
