  • A version of Pete Hidy's March Brown Flymph from the book, Simple Flies, by Morgan Lyle (a great book of simple-to-tie patterns). It is a leggy soft hackle that is unweighted and rides just below the surface or a little deeper with a slow retrieve. It’s simple to tie and uses only two materials other than hook and thread. With added weight or a bead, it can be fished deeper. The dubbing used in the video is a custom blend, but the original pattern uses standard hare's ear dubbing.
    Materials used in the video:
--Standard length nymph hook in #14 (but almost any hook can work)
-- UTC 70 denier thread in red
-- India hen back - natural (or other speckled brown soft hackle)
-- March Brown dubbing blend (1 part Hareline March Brown rabbit, 1 part Hareline brown rabbit, and 1/2 part Hareline rusty brown rabbit)
