Hey umu, I was curious as to why you made everyone react to the trailer version of the song and not the full version in the album. There are quite some portions cut off for the sake of being a trailer so I simply wondered if they could've listened to the whole song, the production, the entire lyrics and stuff. But nevertheless I'm happy we could even get this reaction. Thank you and appreciate the effort 💜💜
I’m surprised you haven’t reacted to the last by Suga that song would put this song into a far different perspective and I hope you will take it into consideration
Literally was gonna write that ! I’m not smart - so listening to someone like him who obviously is so interested in this message and theory was amazing. Would love to watch him more. 👍😁
"This is very vulnerable work" was a line well said. What really makes suga one of my favourite rappers in the group is because in every song I immediately just relate to his lyrics, his flow, the way he changes up and experiment with the type of sounds he makes and his cool yet passionate voice. It's just something so unique to him and he has such awareness how to really connect people to his thoughts. I'm not even a big fan of rap, but Suga changed that for me. It made me see a different color of rap than what I was used to hearing.
lmao...just say he is your favorite, instead of trying to avoid it weirdly, the group have only 3 rappers, saying he is one of your fav rappers, you make it sound like you only like 2 of them. also hope you explored his and the other guys rap recs over the years (like Kendrick's stuff, for example, who even was mentioned in this reaction) and discovered there's more to rap than what media and radio pushed you to believe it is all about.
@@404gram I do like a lot of jhopes rap because I can always bop to it, I like rm's lyrics and a lot of his solo songs have this cool chill vibe. There are some english rappers that I like as well but I like just few songs of theirs or just that one popular song of theirs. Which is why I phrased it that way since I genuinely enjoy listening to all 3 of their content (solos and group) and they each have been my favourite at different times or moods but I keep going back to suga's songs like seesaw (which I will never stop liking no matter how many times I play it on loop). It's not always clear for me and I keep changing my mind because rap is just not something I listen to a whole lot or really search for.
i really liked that guy with the blue sweater explaining everything towards the end. i could listen to him for hours. he definitely made me see the meaning of this song differently
Their whole Map of the Soul Album is referencing Karl Jung's theory of the Map of the Soul. Through their songs, BTS also wants to tell us that If we donot understand and accept the darker aspects of ourselves, then the self we love is not our true self, but rather an idealised version.
Exactly, they didn't get that at the end with the line you are me and me are you and we will always be together, is him accepting his shadow aka his fears that came in the context that he is living right now which is the fame and the stress of the pressure and to not feel like u can relate with other people ( since they are too famous and their schedules are tight ). Before it wasn't a big deal since they weren't that big so they can still relate with other friends that do the same. But now it's petty hard. Other example is my time from jk that talk about it in his own way ofc. And how he accept it at the end of the song too.
The guy who is talking on the last part, he is the only person that I've saw who said that "now I know why BTS is big" and he's talking about the lyrics/concept or theme of the song and not because it's a BOP thing. I mean there's nothing wrong about the bop thing but you know what I mean. No offense
Yeah I see that, it's really impressive when songs have a deeper meaning but then again because it's a song, the way the lyrics are portrayed musically may not appeal to everyone. But regardless you can see how talented they are
i hope that people would see that genuine reasons too to why there are also dedicated kpop fans. most of the kpop "documentaries" and "news" stuffs are always about the sTrAteGing and mArKeTing when it's supposed to be about the KPOP MUSIC... it's kinda frustrating :'(
They perfectly comprehend what Suga was trying to say. I must say Jason analyse was so on point, i think he absolutly need to react to some of Suga's older work like the song The Last on his mixtape Agust D, he may appreciate "the monster hungry for fame" that Suga is talking about in that song . I also appreciate the fact that he says that now he know why BTS are famous !!! Yes that's it their lyrics and poeticism !
Yesss and some people don’t understand that or don’t wanna understand that they just say no I don’t wanna listen to there music because the fandom is toxic (some of them are but every group has toxic fans because nobody is perfect) or they say no they became to famous they forgot their roots and where they are from. If you really love music and appreciate that then you gonna realize that this Stuff is not important
@@ItsCharlie-Maincharacter first of all bts never forgot their roots..its funny when people say that...second of all fandom isn't even a problem at this point...cox every fan out there will defend their fave if someone shits on them ..its just how people shit on bts every opportunity they get and how it became a normal thing and how we as fans cant even defend them without being called "toxic"..
@@abiisaqib7816 About the Topic Army: I have nothing against defending BTS because I defend them but some Armys think they can decide some stuff for them like Hair style and Relationships and some people use this stuff as a excuse to not even listening to their Music or even hate them. I have nothing against Armys I am a Army 😂✌🏾🥰
@@ItsCharlie-Maincharacter we call those type of “ARMYs” as mantis: managerial antis, acts like a “manager” trying to dictate how BTS is being presented, but in honesty exhibits behaviour of antis. Hence, mantis. We do not claim.
The guy is like a detective army he figured it out right away the image of Jung's theory is so right we first noticed that right away when the song comes out
Jason at the end explaining the map of the soul and what the meaning really is behind shadow was MINDBLOWING OH MY GOD I want him to react to all the intros: persona, shadow and ego back to back, I wanna hear what he has to say about all of them and the connection between them
Jason. We’ve volunteered you! Do a series for us and explain it MOTS and how it intertwines with the MV/music and have an ARMY assistant to help explain BTS’ history in the industry/with the public to flesh it out (bc they’ve been on a journey filled with all the tropes imaginable 😅)
I have friends that are psychology majors, the only songs in BTS that they listened to are the Persona, Shadow and Ego. And they would always message me that they did such a good job turning into music Carl Jung's work.
Adding on to what Ju Young said, she mentioned that in BTS' old songs they had the verse "I want big cars, big house, big rings." And in the full version of the song, the one on Spotify and Apple Music, etc, Suga actually references that line!
Idk if I agreed with that specific reference as them rapping about materialistic things because of what the song itself is about and the rest Suga's verse is criticising the materialistic need. If I Rule the World is a good example. It was one of their fun songs.
@@livelovelife32 He's said the 'big cars big house big ring' thing SEVERAL times in several different songs, both in their more light-hearted songs and more serious/honest ways where it was clear that's what he strived for. He's referenced the line several times in the past few years to question/put into perspective those desires and how warped they became as he grew more famous and how those things no longer mattered once he had it.
@@dekuwashi but even in no more dream those lines weren't driven just by pure materialism like yeah that was part of it but also the whole song is about how young people/their generation dont have dreams; their elders/teachers/parents tell them to study study study and tell young people to become office workers and to strive for that, calling elders liars; bts sing how their peers need to be freed from those expectations and burdens placed by others and just follow your own path, criticising the system, teachers, parents, relatives etc. And when yoongi was a teen/young adult i would say he was driven to work as hard as he did, sacrifice as much as he did so he could "get these material things" as said in songs from his self titled album Agust D, D-2, some bts tracks and interviews over the years etc but it wasn't from genuine place of greed or him thinking he was better than anyone so ofc he deserves to have xyz😤 (tha last bit is sarcasm but im never sure if its conveyed through text lol) but it was his desire to improve his situation, to help his family financially, to have stable income and career in music so he doesn't have to decide between eating or walking home instead of catching the bus. It was also his unacceptance of how the world is, as said in a few songs from Agust D album he had to share a tiny a$$ room and apartment with 10 people but some classmates from when he was already in Seoul got imported brand new cars upon graduation by their parents meanwhile he is breaking his back working part time jobs and trainig for at the time a possible future debut. All of that was him seeing how the world isnt the same playing field for everyone and some get dealt better cards than others. And yeah the lines i wanna big cars, big house and big rings have been referenced many times not only in group music by yoongi but also in his solo, expanding on his thoughts over the years, going in a different direction with the lyirics. And thats one fun thing the tannies love to do but ive noticed yoongi does it even more is to reference their own words/give this subtle shout outs to some of their other songs with some lyrics and phrases. Sorry for the long comment i just could talk for hours about the tannies music and how brilliant they r
Perfect but that last comment kinda of made me want to see the guy reacting to The Last especially when he talked about how the ending sounds almost like a monster hungry for fame cause that's exactly what Yoongi says in The Last
Yep, he’s always made a commentary (even in Shadow with his “i wanna be...”) about how he fears that his ambition will become greed that keeps wanting more and more It’s incredibly crazy to me how he’s maintained the balance (from a mental health perspective) of pursuing your biggest dreams while keeping that ambition in check for fear of becoming a monster (like he said in “The Last”)
Fun fact: in this song, Suga reversed a sample from their 2013 song Intro: ORUl82 from their first mini album. It goes with the other 2 rapline songs in this album where RM sampled Intro Skool Luv Affair from their second mini album for his MOTS song Intro Persona, Jhope sampled Intro: 2 Cool 4 Skool from their debut album in his MOTS sing Outro Ego. They did this because mots7, in addition to exploring Carl jung's work, BTS also wanted this album to be a reflection on their past 7 years as a group
Oh, that's crazy! I noticed the sampling for RM and j-hope's solos, but didn't know about this one! Is that why ORUL82 kept flashing on the screen? Only noticed it this time around
They got it! They all connected personally with some facet of the song, and I think that was the point. We all (in different ways) connect with Suga and with the shadow aspect in ourselves, and can understand Suga's POV.
Praise to the guy explaining MOTS. Yes that’s exactly why I fell in love with BTS. The creative geniuses they are when it comes to delivering a concept/messages always never fail to amaze me
Yup. Even in interviews, you can really tell they make own music as they can tell a story how they make music, how they got inspired. Yes, this is why they still at the top right now.
"I'm afraid, flying high is terrifying No one told me How lonely it is up here" I can't imagine what they've gone through. Jin once said that he lose some of his friends and performing was the only thing keeps him going and after the concert, they're alone in their hotel rooms feeling empty.
That's also one of the reasons of their "burnout" last 2018 where they almost disbanded. I remember that kind of feeling really took a toll on Jimin's mental health. It was shown in their concert documentaries. Glad they overcome it.
About 2018.. At first I thought it was about being burnout and all. But in BV 3, Jimin had a drink with RM (The night with the fireworks) he talked about them having a hard time in early 2018 because they couldn't have concerts and see army. I was really confused at the moment, because I thought they were extremely worn out and that's why they were having a hard time. Now, with pandemic and listening to the boys talking about wanting to perform because it gives them purpose, I realized that performing on stage really is the main drive and support for their mental life, EVEN if physically draining. What am I trying to say....I guess I'm happy that "flying high/being up there" is no longer lonely nor terrifying for them.
*The best part of this reaction videos is that EVERYONE HERE IS FUCKING GENIUS and they always get the meaning or give a point of view super cool. THIS CHANNEL IS JUST CHEF KISS*
This is in reference to Suga: Suga didn't have enough finances to pursue his passion of music..I wanna be rich Suga was scared of the stage in the early days...I wanna be a rockstar Suga and BTS had so many haters and impediments...I wanna win Simple words with deep meanings In the end Suga is still Min Yoongi..if you know what I mean...
The guy at the end explaining Jungian theory yes my guy.. you deserve an award.. the only one who got it on the first shot.. BTS's music has layers upon layers you just need the right mind and sight to unpack everything..
SUGA personally learn psychology and often being caught read psychology books also want to get license. That's why his rap is always poetically beautiful and often referencing psychological things
I think the beginning where he saying I want this and I want that somewhat sounds like a child saying "I want this and I want that" so I think he purposely made it sound childish to represent his younger self being passionate and wanting to dream and bigger dream.
Exactly, specially considering that the video also references and connects to their O!RUL82? era, and how each solo of the rap line is like a reflection on their past self
i really loved how all of them delved deeper into the meaning of the song, not only sonically, but also lyrically and visually. that was a great breakdown by Jason on the references to Jungian psychology. absolutely loved the reaction!
i’ve always interpreted the beginning of shadow (“i wanna be a rap star” etc) as this simplistic but deep ambition almost child like and stubborn. and the fact that he uses english to say all these simple sentences also emphasizes this kinda mantra about ambition. sometimes yoongi’s use of english is deliberate and so smart in the way he places it on the song. can only thinking about how he uses english in ‘people’ and ‘blueberry eyes’ as an example of this
the psychology behind this song is astonishing. the references to isolation and the difference in personality is so well done. that shift in the song really put the cherry on top and how he put it “desire”. it’s the reality between his shadow and his on stage persona that becomes blurred and he was so spot on with explaining the meaning.
The opening words "I wanna be a rockstar," etc. is from their first song No More Dreams. These words deeply reference their growth and experience as artists and from puberty to young men, from worldly illusion to reaity.
One of the best reactions! Kevin and Jason really nailed it with their comments and observations. It's great that they brought their knowledge of music, film and psychology to the table. This is kind of why I started watching ReacttotheK's videos back when it was first established and also why I'm staying til this day. I always learn so much from the casts' reactions in every video. Thank you, Umu and friends for the opportunity to learn more! Keep on keeping on! And stay safe and healthy
IDK why but I didn't expect "he's got range" to be a comment coming from this but I don't protest it a bit. This reaction surprised me in a lot of ways! Thanks everyone! 👍
This is why Suga is my ultimate bias. He explores a part of himself and fame that I seldom see in Kpop. It is so deep and vulnerable that literally all of it makes me so emotional.
I'd just like to say that the part where he says "I wanna be a rockstar, I wanna be the top..." is a reference to their first song in which his verse began with "I want a big house, big cars and big rings" It's supposed to represent who he was in 2013 debuting with BTS a group from a small company and the rest of the song shows who he is as a person today, a member of BTS, one of the biggest groups in the world.
The "I wanna be a rockstar.." part is amazing cause the basic wording makes it sound like a mantra he said to himself when he wanted to achieve something, but now that he has it and still craves for the same, the mantra has transformed into an inner voice that haunts him.
omfg the way the last guy spoke about MOTS & explained everything... so smart! also love how he understood why BTS is so big, it's so much more than just great music ♥
When you actually get all things you wanted, what else is left to want? And then, who are you really once you've accomplished it all? That's what I get from this song.....
Thanks a lot for this reaction ! Now, I'm a bit sad when people take the lyrics of No More Dream literally. Just read the next lyrics : "I want a big house, big cars and big rings, But actually, I don't have any big dreams". In my opinion, the song is about how young people don't have actual dreams, they just want the things everyone want and tell them to want. I think Bangtan were mocking this materialism and conformism from the beggining. (just in case it isn't clear, I'm not angry and am not hating anyone, just hoping to share knowledge/opinion)
Their first song is literally a diss track full with sarcasm towards the concept that one must have a dream, and must want materialistic things but it seems like most people take it too literally
The guy in red really missed the point of the song. The “I wanna be a rockstar” is not bragging or a flex..totally missed the point. The guy in blue at the end understood the song perfectly.
I might go so far as to say that Suga is one of the major reasons why BTS has become so successful. His thoughtfulness surrounding music and the layers within his producing, have taken them one step outside the ring of Kpop. So there's some irony for you, that he himself has created the hype surrounding them that causes them to question who they truly are.
@@pacarnyakakyoongi yes but I’m saying that there’s more than just one member we should focus on when streaming their tracks because they’re all very talented and deserve the same amount of attention as yoongi. I’m making sure that y’all don’t forget that even if one rapper may be your favorite, that doesn’t mean you should ignore the other two.
everytime i watch one of these, my mind gets blown because I wouldn't expect someone to catch things about their videos that you only could if you do research. but the guy that explained the map of the soul... literally caught everything, even the shape of it in the mv. so cool!
there were these words that were something like "no one told me how lonely it was on the top." and i swear, my heart shattered when i heard it. people always glorify about reaching the top, when you're popular and well-loved to the public, but honestly? we never really hear the stories of the dark parts of reaching fame and glory, where everyone is watching, prying and constantly criticizing.
He just wanted to make music and not be a celebrity by being a producer and now he's here like 😳. But seriously, I think if he really wanted to he would've quit bts bc he doesn't like to waste time doing things he doesn't like, so I'm glad he found his love for it all! :)
That’s the thing I love so much about this channel. It takes the songs I know and love and allows me to not only revisit the depth behind them but to also be introduced to new ones through the reactor’s musical analysis, critiques, and thoughts. Umu if you see this, just wanna say thank you for creating a platform that allows for thought provoking appreciation for this culture of music.
everything about mots7 is vulnerable and like authentic? in every song and specifically the solo songs its just them talking about themselves and how they fell, i love this channel and the pro-comments bc i listened to this song a thousand times and when u hear they talking there's so much more that "normal-not-musician-student" ppl hear! and that's just amazing
It is so nice to see classical musicians react to this song. I find myself analyzing the musicality of it every other week and never have anyone to talk to about it. And most reactors don't pay attention to the things classical musicians do.
I would love for Jason and Raffi to analyze Suga's mixtape D2. They are very very smart and sensitive . The way Suga shows his vulnerability is to highlight."lyrics and poeticism" That is why Suga is my fav rapper. 🖤🖤
He is accepting his shadow inner self as well as the famous self and is at peace with himself in the last scene when he is among the crowd as opposed to earlier. You see the black clothed Suga (shadow) in the crowd looking up at the white clothed famous suga on top just before the last acceptance scenes.
I loove that everyone really get to voice their thoughts without being limited or interrupted. Nice seeing discussion like this, great insight from all!
look... listen... like this reaction is giving me life. as an army i appreciate what the boys give to the fans but seeing other people get hooked by their lyricism and just messages is so beautiful to me. anyway imma go listen to interlude: shadow now love love love the content Umu and the rest of the Classical Musians
I love everyone's reaction. I also love how in depth and aware they are with the overall concept of this song! "Interlude: Shadow" is one of my favorite BTS songs because of how lyrically deep it is. You can really feel the emotion and pain in Yoongi's voice. The lyrics, MV, their reactions, and everything else come together so well. Everyone reacting is so insightful.
Because Jason was already fully aware of Jung and his work, I find that he was prepared for what Shadow was expressing while he listened and watched. He was completely tapped in and his breakdown of the song and video was a masterclass. I’m curious as to how Jason is so familiar with Jung. It was nice to see so many of the reactors speak about how the song relates to them being musicians as well. Not just a breakdown of the music but the lyrics as well.
Okay the last guy I think his name was Jason was so on point w his analysis, suga always puts sm thought and dept behind everything he does, and if you listen to suga’s other works you can clearly see that he doesn’t sugarcoat it. He talks about his struggles as much as of his achievements but he doesn’t flex. He worked so fucking hard for everything he got and he still gets hate for people who don’t even have a name, he puts sm into his music and archived sm, their debut track has a line "I want a big house, big car and big rings" in one of his solo tracks he reused that line, "I have a big house, big car and big rings" he talks about how he achieved everything he wanted, but in the end he questions what comes next? He has everything he has, he is a star, a rockstar, he is rich, he has everything he wanted but why doesn’t he feel so happy on the top, that reflected here. I didn’t like how that one guy said he could have said it differently or he doesn’t like that part, it could be his personal taste but this line is so important for the track. Suga wanted to be fame, he wanted to be big, bc he doesn’t knew what’s all behind that, he didn’t knew about the shadow and misery it comes with it. Being and idol is so romanticised or being famous bc no one ever talks about the shadow of all. He never knew how bad it can gets, he was afraid of going higher he didn’t wanted to fly higher, in case he looses himself and everything changes the person he is, he was afraid of the shadow in himself. The 2nd time yoongi brings the line "I want to be a rockstar etc" it’s sm softer, nearly like a whisper, I think it’s bc he isn’t sure about it anymore. He is confused if he still wants that all, being at the top he questioned himself if he should continue, he didn’t know if he wanted to become bigger, he struggled with the imagine of himself and the struggles of the past and upcoming future. "Yeah I'm you, you are me, now do you know" as everyone could have thought that’s his shadow, the different persona he has, the shadow talks to him, tries to make him understand that they are one and suga can’t fight against him, there are times where his shadow will go away but also will come back, he tries to explain he can’t be afraid of his shadow bc that’s him, he is his own shadow but light. The track then ends with the sentiment that everyone feels this way and that this feeling is unavoidable, ultimately leaving a sense of acceptance. He has to accept that his shadow will never fade, and is a part of himself. I just wanted to thank Jason that he said "now I know why BTS is big" the simply looked at the lyricsm, depth behind it, the Meaning and understood how well done and deep this all is, thank you guys for supporting them❤️
His parents didn’t like him rapping, one time his parents showed up to his concert and he bowed to them as soon as he saw them on the ground it broke my heart
Kevin completely understood what Yoongi was trying to convey in his song especially when he said how in the 1st part it sounded intentionally egotistical. It was interesting listening to the guys' take on the mv, there's sm going on and they all added their own theories to it. Overall I enjoyed it ^^ it would be interesting if you could make them listen to their mixtapes as well
And this is why I wait for your reactions because you guys don't do it for clout, you guys actually break down each song, music wise and theory wise. I love listening to your thought process 👍
Now that we have learned the one we should be loving first is ourselves the question arises, how do we do that? Dive into our psyche through Jung and initiate a process of individuation inorder to BE. But it doesn't end there. Can't wait for their next work. I'm so pumped and excited.
This reaction has everything wow! Pointing out how eerie it is to connect this with their early songs especially suga's "big house, big cars, big rings"....and the Map Of the Soul discussion is so in depth, it's so amazing to see someone who knows carl jung's work immediately pick up on what BTS is doing here without previously being a fan...i hope he sees a bit more sometime bc the academic excited energy about their metaphors/storytelling is exactly what originally got me into bts!
I'd really like to know if I'm the only person in the world who thinks this and Interstellar's main theme are so similar? Interstellar is one of my all time favorite movie sound tracks (I mean, not just favorite I'm actually obsessed with it lmao) and my mind went there the very exact moment i clicked on play button when Shadow dropped and I was SOOOO excited and happy waiting for people to mention it but I've never seen anyone mention it and it makes me feel lonely lol
Not gonna surprise of that because suga seem a huge fan for christopher nolan movies(inception, dark night) that all have same interstellar music director.
i'm so glad to see THIS song being talked about here! It was one of my favourite songs/videos from the album simply because it was so personal to Suga. Especially when you consider how he debuted and how it wasn't necessarily what he wanted (as in, he wanted to produce but he didn't want to be an idol), this song just has so much meaning. I freaked out when it came out and I do not shut up when showing it to someone else hehe I just have to much love for it, so I was stoked to see you all react to it and go in depth about the message both lyrically, musically, and visually.
Jason's explanation of Shadow immediately takes me back to their MAMA 2019 Daesang speech, where basically the Tear album is the manifestation of their collective feelings described in Shadow. Seokjin then also released his original song "Abyss" on Soundcloud in 2020 where he also tries to narrate his version of Shadow.
What music or art makes powerful is that there’s no definite answer to the work. Each of us get different feeling and analyzing. Some might not agree with one another. But that’s okay. Everyday doesn’t have to like the one art. Your reaction videos shine at this. You guys are trained in classical music. But also knows about other genres as each of you like. So it’s joy to see all the interesting reactions all differently. It makes me like ‘oh I am not the only one think of that!’ Or ‘that’s totally different perspective. Interesting!’ Like that. I am not a musician. Just a normal listener. So sometimes when the reaction goes too technical, I don’t get it fully. But at the same time it is so refreshing to hear it. And also I like the fact that reviews are not as fresh as some might think it’s odd. I think Umu is sort of a curator in this. And I appreciate her directions. So thank you.
Wow I didn’t know there was a Swedish film titled Persona that Yoongi referenced here. That was a great catch! I feel like I need to become more cultured in areas like art and film. Expand my horizons. :’)
Now I need the guy at 14:48 to go through their entire discography, thank you very much :D No, but seriously, he's one of the very very few people who I've seen that really catches what BTS is trying to say right away, good job!
Can I just say, I really do appreciate not only the musical observation breakdown, but the way you guys explain the video itself. When artists/musicians make their art this is what they want people to see and understand, people get so distracted by the visuals that they miss the mark/message. Im def a big fan of this channel and Im sure they are too. Well done team keep them coming.
Hi guys! BOBBY from iKON will release his second album on Jan 25th, and the title track is named "야 우냐 (U MAD)", I think you should take a look at it once it comes out!! He is known in the k-hiphop scene and it's his first comeback as a soloist in 3 years. Hope you check him out

Me too 😇
Me: Hates rap with a passion
Also me: In LOVE with BTS rap-line.
lmao...just say he is your favorite, instead of trying to avoid it weirdly, the group have only 3 rappers, saying he is one of your fav rappers, you make it sound like you only like 2 of them.
also hope you explored his and the other guys rap recs over the years (like Kendrick's stuff, for example, who even was mentioned in this reaction) and discovered there's more to rap than what media and radio pushed you to believe it is all about.
This comment •chef’s kiss•
i really liked that guy with the blue sweater explaining everything towards the end. i could listen to him for hours. he definitely made me see the meaning of this song differently
I thought it was gray lol
@@MzFoRi3 am i color blind??
Yes ,but thw thing is that it's grey sweater ...
And how he accept it at the end of the song too.
not me buying all the books from the map of the soul series, I just started to read them and they are so interesting.
got them from amazon
Carl Jung*
after knowing it was from a book I just downloaded all books of carl jung lol
The guy who is talking on the last part, he is the only person that I've saw who said that "now I know why BTS is big" and he's talking about the lyrics/concept or theme of the song and not because it's a BOP thing. I mean there's nothing wrong about the bop thing but you know what I mean. No offense
Yes only commenter who gets the point about integration of persona and shadow in progress
YES exactly
Yeah I see that, it's really impressive when songs have a deeper meaning but then again because it's a song, the way the lyrics are portrayed musically may not appeal to everyone. But regardless you can see how talented they are
he's great, loved the way he talked about the song and mv
i hope that people would see that genuine reasons too to why there are also dedicated kpop fans. most of the kpop "documentaries" and "news" stuffs are always about the sTrAteGing and mArKeTing when it's supposed to be about the KPOP MUSIC... it's kinda frustrating :'(
They perfectly comprehend what Suga was trying to say.
Yesss

I'm still watching reactions of MOTS7 left and right and every few weeks I'm more and more amazed that that masterpiece exists! It's mind-blowing tbh
It's 2022 and I'll never be over this song 😭
shadow is a musically rich song,, gonna enjoy this!!!!
so true.
ISN'T IT, LIKE SHADOW AND BLACK SWAN INSTRUMETAL VERSION ARE LITERALLY ONE OF THE BEST PIECES OF ARTISTRY THAT THE WORLD HAS EXPERIENCED
The guy is like a detective army he figured it out right away the image of Jung's theory is so right we first noticed that right away when the song comes out
Jason at the end explaining the map of the soul and what the meaning really is behind shadow was MINDBLOWING OH MY GOD I want him to react to all the intros: persona, shadow and ego back to back, I wanna hear what he has to say about all of them and the connection between them
This is a fantastic idea!
I want that too!
Jason. We’ve volunteered you! Do a series for us and explain it MOTS and how it intertwines with the MV/music and have an ARMY assistant to help explain BTS’ history in the industry/with the public to flesh it out (bc they’ve been on a journey filled with all the tropes imaginable 😅)
Yess
Yesss please!!!!!
I have friends that are psychology majors, the only songs in BTS that they listened to are the Persona, Shadow and Ego. And they would always message me that they did such a good job turning into music Carl Jung's work.
Agree
I am a psychologist and I don’t love th psychoanalytic work but yeah, they did well
@@hmaroni9572 I'm a psychologist as well. and i agree with you
I'm a psychology major and haven't reached Carl Jung's work yet. But will do soon now cuz this has intriguied me a lot.
Perfect but that last comment kinda of made me want to see the guy reacting to The Last especially when he talked about how the ending sounds almost like a monster hungry for fame cause that's exactly what Yoongi says in The Last
Yep, he’s always made a commentary (even in Shadow with his “i wanna be...”) about how he fears that his ambition will become greed that keeps wanting more and more
It’s incredibly crazy to me how he’s maintained the balance (from a mental health perspective) of pursuing your biggest dreams while keeping that ambition in check for fear of becoming a monster (like he said in “The Last”)
Fun fact: in this song, Suga reversed a sample from their 2013 song Intro: ORUl82 from their first mini album.
:')
Oh, that's crazy! I noticed the sampling for RM and j-hope's solos, but didn't know about this one! Is that why ORUL82 kept flashing on the screen? Only noticed it this time around
Crazy
Literally crazy. BTS are such a geniuses
ok why are they so JINius? can I have some of their smartness or talents please?
This is not music related but the editing never fails to make me smile, its so magnifique😂
"I'm afraid, flying high is terrifying
No one told me
How lonely it is up here"
I can't imagine what they've gone through. Jin once said that he lose some of his friends and performing was the only thing keeps him going and after the concert, they're alone in their hotel rooms feeling empty.
Totally agree with you.
What am I trying to say....I guess I'm happy that "flying high/being up there" is no longer lonely nor terrifying for them.
they are ok now.. they've explained it..so don't worry too much 💜
Yes, thankfully..
*The best part of this reaction videos is that EVERYONE HERE IS FUCKING GENIUS and they always get the meaning or give a point of view super cool. THIS CHANNEL IS JUST CHEF KISS*
This is in reference to Suga:
Suga didn't have enough finances to pursue his passion of music..I wanna be rich
Suga was scared of the stage in the early days...I wanna be a rockstar
Suga and BTS had so many haters and impediments...I wanna win
Simple words with deep meanings
In the end Suga is still Min Yoongi..if you know what I mean...
And ladies and gentlemen that is why BTS hits differently for me and many others🙏
14:48 My goodness!! Round of applause for Jason please!!!!! He articulated the music and the MV sooooo well! A++++++++++++++
i really loved how all of them delved deeper into the meaning of the song, not only sonically, but also lyrically and visually. that was a great breakdown by Jason on the references to Jungian psychology. absolutely loved the reaction!
i’ve always interpreted the beginning of shadow (“i wanna be a rap star” etc) as this simplistic but deep ambition almost child like and stubborn. and the fact that he uses english to say all these simple sentences also emphasizes this kinda mantra about ambition. sometimes yoongi’s use of english is deliberate and so smart in the way he places it on the song. can only thinking about how he uses english in ‘people’ and ‘blueberry eyes’ as an example of this
EXACTLY and it references bts’s no more dream song
quede :0
Oh my god just how good Suga is!!
да
the psychology behind this song is astonishing. the references to isolation and the difference in personality is so well done. that shift in the song really put the cherry on top and how he put it “desire”. it’s the reality between his shadow and his on stage persona that becomes blurred and he was so spot on with explaining the meaning.
Jason's analysis of the Shadow concept was just so amazing to see
I would like for some of these people to react to Persona and Ego together with Shadow. Really good commentary on all aspects of this video.

Exactly
IDK why but I didn't expect "he's got range" to be a comment coming from this but I don't protest it a bit. This reaction surprised me in a lot of ways! Thanks everyone! 👍
I love that Shadow is getting treated like the art that it is.
Suga is truly genius producer and songwriter
This is why Suga is my ultimate bias. He explores a part of himself and fame that I seldom see in Kpop. It is so deep and vulnerable that literally all of it makes me so emotional.

MIN SUGA 👑
Aka "Suga Agust D"..🔥👑
Technically he's nott... But yeah i agree with him in parts of it
geez, last guy understood this better than armys, in his first watch wtf
The pride i felt when he said "now i know why btz is big" yes
Yes finallyyyyy, i love how everyone expresses their thoughts on the music and the video itself thank you guys
Just read the next lyrics :
"I want a big house, big cars and big rings,
But actually, I don't have any big dreams".
In my opinion, the song is about how young people don't have actual dreams, they just want the things everyone want and tell them to want. I think Bangtan were mocking this materialism and conformism from the beggining.
(just in case it isn't clear, I'm not angry and am not hating anyone, just hoping to share knowledge/opinion)
that's what i was thinking, too. she misinterpreted the lyrics it seems
Their first song is literally a diss track full with sarcasm towards the concept that one must have a dream, and must want materialistic things but it seems like most people take it too literally
I WAS NOT READY for First Love to start playing out of nowhere 😭
I know for a fact that girl’s gonna have an existential crisis when she hears Felix’s voice for the first time if Suga took her aback so much xD
Cooking like a chef I'm a 5* Michelin
The way Jason explained everything....
He should definitely react to The Last by Suga....PLEASEEE
The guy in red really missed the point of the song. The “I wanna be a rockstar” is not bragging or a flex..totally missed the point. The guy in blue at the end understood the song perfectly.
I might go so far as to say that Suga is one of the major reasons why BTS has become so successful. His thoughtfulness surrounding music and the layers within his producing, have taken them one step outside the ring of Kpop. So there's some irony for you, that he himself has created the hype surrounding them that causes them to question who they truly are.
kevin's analysis never dissapoint! thoroughly enjoyed this one.
"i don't believe his voice is that low" we've all been there i think 😭
We don't talk about this masterpiece enough

YESSSSS so happy to see this!! Love that this channel gets into the music process aND more. Love you guys💕🥺
there were these words that were something like "no one told me how lonely it was on the top." and i swear, my heart shattered when i heard it. people always glorify about reaching the top, when you're popular and well-loved to the public, but honestly? we never really hear the stories of the dark parts of reaching fame and glory, where everyone is watching, prying and constantly criticizing.
Came straight from watching Biden sworn in and now this. Great start to my day here in New Zealand. :)
🎉🎉🎉
He once said that he wanted to do music but somehow he doesn't want to be famous and now he's really really famous...😶
As a psych major I really love the ending and how deep Jason gets into talking about Jung and his theory.
And that’s why suga is a genius. He always wants to his listener think about his lyrics.
It is so nice to see classical musicians react to this song. I find myself analyzing the musicality of it every other week and never have anyone to talk to about it. And most reactors don't pay attention to the things classical musicians do.
*I love how they got the message well. This song really is robbed, SUGA really writes one of the deepest song. Thank you!*
Well this was a surprise
This was one of the more thoughtful, intelligent BTS reactions I’ve seen. Great content!
I loove that everyone really get to voice their thoughts without being limited or interrupted. Nice seeing discussion like this, great insight from all!
look... listen... like this reaction is giving me life. as an army i appreciate what the boys give to the fans but seeing other people get hooked by their lyricism and just messages is so beautiful to me. anyway imma go listen to interlude: shadow now
love love love the content Umu and the rest of the Classical Musians
I think the "I wanna be ... " is meant to sound childish so they could represent their younger and past selves
Wow I love the in depth look into the music and music video! Great video!
I'm so grateful for Kevin and Owen's presence cause the references they make and their points are AMAZING
I just wanted to thank Jason that he said "now I know why BTS is big" the simply looked at the lyricsm, depth behind it, the Meaning and understood how well done and deep this all is, thank you guys for supporting them❤️
The guy who explained extensively about Jung psychology also needs to drop his skincare routine
@@snisa92 Oh I didn't know that, he might've taken inspiration from Hans Zimmer's work then!
@@roomofmirros yeahh i guess so!
i'm so glad to see THIS song being talked about here!
Wow, hearing art students talk about this really hits different 👀
great, great video, as always! love how in depth everyone goes!
Oh my god yasssss!!!! WHAT A KING
i believe the door with all the red stuff around it is also a reference to a specific work of art
@@raspberrytaegi I don’t doubt it! BTS seem to reference a lot of art in their art. 😊
Shadow is just that. after a year i still get goosebumps
So proud of how far you've come Umu, been loving your content for a long time :) appreciate u so much!
Now I need the guy at 14:48 to go through their entire discography, thank you very much :D No, but seriously, he's one of the very very few people who I've seen that really catches what BTS is trying to say right away, good job!
The don't let me shine, don't let me fly gets me every time.
I love the break down the guy did at the end, so good! AHHH when she was like “THATS HIM!” And the two pics? YEAAAH So trueeeeee yoongi praise💗💗
Hope you check him out
Shadow is a masterpiece 😭❤️ I wish the music video had the full track for them to listen to
Dont forget that Yoongi had social phobia. So it is a really deep song
