- For the 39th reaction video of Season 5 of this series, classical musicians react to Stray Kids 'God's Menu'! Our original plan was for the reactors to compare GO LIVE with God's Menu since when I ran The Tortoise and the Hare by our voting panel the yes/no votes were tied, but then reactors had mORE to say about GO LIVE than Gods Menu so I'm deciding to split them into separate reaction videos. Will be showing the reactors the tortoise and the hare later on to make a separate reaction for go live/tortoise and the hare.
(FYI we are continuing to practice social distancing during our film sessions, so if you see 2 people sitting next to each other with their masks off, they have been quarantining together. Please stay safe and healthy everyone!)

Chan mentioned that it was so cool you guys caught every little thing, including the minor major change in the bridge, and the triplets, etc. They were thankful for noticing that they kept it a a certain length otherwise it could be hard on the listener, with all the variety and dynamics in the song. @Iduna it is an actual genre of music, but how some kpop stans refer to some 4th gen groups songs (ex. nct and skz) as 'noise music' isn't the correct use, just a diss on the instrumental background being very busy :))

My favourite part of this song is the structure, tbh. Changbin's EXPLOSIVE verse to start and end with, and the fact that it omits the second chorus to just give us the bridge -- the song feels short but HELLA impactful. It's been nearly a year and I'm still not tired! (Bang chan, if you're reading this: you're a genius. Good luck for kingdom!)

In Korean, the “d” sound is actually pronounced with the tongue between the teeth the way we would place it to make a “th” sound. It’s basically halfway between our d and th (they don’t have the full “th” sound in the Korean language, btw).
n the ddu ddu ddu part stands out even more bc its 뚜 (ddu; a lot more emphasis on the d/th sound) not just 두 (du; a flatter sound)
The “R” presents a big problem for Koreans Japanese Chinese etc. esp for adults who don’t speak English and it’s pretty normal cause every word I try to pronounce in Chinese is just wrong cause my mouth is shaped differently 😅
i think they do have a th/t sound (correct me if I am wrong) but there is 'ㅌ' it's a th/t sound and there is 'ㄷ' is as mentioned a flatter d sound and then there is 'ㄸ' (ddu more emphasis)

Sam and Raffi perfectly put into words why I love God’s Menu (and Kpop in general) so much. What makes good music is when the music has these elements that are so captivating, addictive, and interesting, and makes you want to listen to it over and over again, but still have that same feeling of excitement. God’s Menu was THE song that got me actually into Stray Kid’s discography and I’m so happy that it was that song.

honestly, stray kids sometimes has some of the nicest pre-choruses to go with their most upbeat songs, and it all still flows together seamlessly and it's incredibly well done, much like sam was saying. i enjoyed his dissection of the song,, as per usual. and i, too, am jealous of his perfect pitch.

As someone that is currently studying Hangul, the Korean language, I would say Cloud is entirely correct in saying the "D" sound in "DU" is closer to "TH" because the Korean letter that correlates in translation from Korean to English "ㄷ" is actually said with more of a "TH" sound. It is said with the tongue in between the teeth rather than at the back or middle of the mouth. I believe this actually has to do with Korean pronunciation. I was so surprised when she could notice the difference.
Just a clarifying note to everyone - “Hangul” (한굴) is the Korean writing system/alphabet, not the Korean language 😅 The Korean language as an entity is “Korean”, or 한국어 (literally, “Korea language). You wouldn’t say you’re learning how to speak “Hangul”, just like you wouldn’t say you’re learning how to speak the “English alphabet”.
