The falklands war cost the uk 1.2 billion pounds. That is about 4 billion pounds today. All that money for 1820 islanders. Us brits care about our citizens not money
This was probably too modern to have been covered in history class when you took it but you are too young to remember it first hand. There's a weird gray area there with these types of things, especially as it was a war the US didn't have direct involvement in. I never heard a word about this in school either.
I live in the UK and was nine when this occurred so in school we got to follow it day by day as events unfolded. Of course certain details weren't released until years later but I remember kids bringing in newspaper clippings and watching that day's footage in lessons.
Falkland was British territory before Argentina was a country , Spain has more claim but know they can't even get Gibraltar back If you want a fight I suggest thinking 200 times. Please we in the UK are waiting for a reason to assert our position on any advicery. France Germany Argentina just remember this country goes to war the world goes with it .
If there is a reason for war then the Falklands War was justified in that the people of the Falklands want to stay British and enjoy democracy. A dictator from Agentina was in trouble with the economy and with civil unrest as well as thousands of civillians being murdered, the British people on the Falklands did not want to be part of a dictatorship. Britain could have left the people to the mercy of the dictator but this would encourage other dictators including the Russians to think the West was weak and by definition make wars more likely. ALL wars are insane but a few have moral reasons to fight
Exactly. It's was about the people. The UK government wasn't going to stand by and watch their own people get forcibly taken over by a dictator. Those Falklanders are British citizens, and I'd have been disgusted if we had just turned our backs on them. But Brittania will never turn her back on her own people. Rule Britannia 🇬🇧
Argentina started the war. They depended on the British government not responding. It's like if some American island dependency got invaded. That's always less likely to happen as America has got a greater capacity to respond.
When you were in school I'm guessing you are 30 wich means you would've been in school in the late 90s and it wouldn't have been a history lesson as it would've been 10 years ago
