    Nice to see you finally on the Michelins. I made the switch over from maxxis and are a big fan of them for where I ride. Was on the dhf/dhr and now on the Michelins. Less rolling resistance and those side knobs are killer. Dhf does have abit of grip over the Michelins though but not by much

    Thanks Telly. I was really looking forward to hearing your opinion on the tire. I ordered a rear as well so it will be interesting to compare it with the DHR II DH casing.

    That’s interesting, I’ve got the front and rear set that came with my nuke proof mega that I got in November, and wasn’t too sure over summer . Was going to swap them out for wtb vigilante and trail boss combo that I loved on my last bike . But since we have had the wet weather I’ve been much happier with them and keeping them on for now .

      Cam Wells definitely a good wet weather tyre. I’m eager to get the rear on now see how it feels

      MTB Telly I’m also on 29 inch wheels, tyres 2.4 wide , came off a remedy 27.5 , 2.6 wide , so the whole experience is different , I probably need to have different tyres on this bike which I haven’t done to make a comparison, not compare them to the last bike which was a different riding experience all round.

      Don't know if you have tried the new tritec wtb tires, but killer. Heavy but super good traction and predictable

    • @camwells9726
      @camwells9726 4 года назад +1

      Brutally Average yeah the vigilante& trail boss tyres were tritec, which I assume is similar to the 3 rubber compound maxis use

      @@mtbtelly5522 I have a 2.8'' wild enduro on the front of my new Banshee Rune V2 (it was the cheapest 2.8'' tyre on Chain reaction that was decent). We've had a lot of unseasonal wet weather in the UK recently. My local trails are damp but have a few patches of thick mud. Going down at speed I've felt it slide a bit in these muddy patches, but that may be because my pressures are a bit high. Also it's a 2.8'' tyre on a somewhat narrow rim, Nukeproof neutron V1 rim with 29mm inner rim width. They recommend up to a 2.8'' with that rim, but I'm guessing the rounder profile of the tyre means the side knobs don't dig in as much, so the smaller centre knobs and the large area of the tyre cause it to slide a bit before the sides dig in. On normal just damp earth ground its fine, and the rolling resistance on harder stuff is excellent, hardly feels like an enduro tyre at all on roads. I'll lower the pressures a bit and see how it goes.

  • @SixFootSixMTB
    @SixFootSixMTB 4 года назад +3

    I found the same initially with the Michelins as well mate. Ended up slowing down my rebound a click or so to compensate and no longer felt i was getting that deflected feeling.
    The grip on those side knobs is something else hey!

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 года назад +1

      SixFootSix MTB side knobs are great in these conditions, I wasn’t so fond of them on loose flat dry turns. Its a fine sweet spot for cutties

    • @terrytate6313
      @terrytate6313 4 года назад +2

      I'm not sure if confirmation bias, but I have also found the same with these tyres. I changed tyres right after a fork service and just assumed my settings had been changed. Checked them and they were bang on. I've also dropped 2 clicks of rebound and it's feeling much better. I also find I need to run this tyre at a lower pressure than I would a DHF.

    • @noname-sd5dt
      @noname-sd5dt 4 года назад

      Im with 6 foot. Need to chill the rebound a bit. I run 23f 26r no inserts otherwise it squirms. Tyres work best on their edges when you aggressively dig them in.

  • @Nunes929

    I ve used these Michelin tyres front and rear for a few months. Initially I liked it a lot, almost forgot about Maxxis; but the more riding I did, the more harsh it felt. Mounted a Maxxis front tyre just for the kicks and it was a revelation right on the first fast trail, the damping is miles better and grip is more or less the same! Maxxis for the win for me

      MTB Telly , Dhf wt is THE tyre, but....I am trying dhr II 2.4 on both wheels for a couple of months now, really really good combo, always balanced! You should try it mate! I also ride a Patrol. Keep up with the reviews, I enjoy it very much. Cheers

      @mtbtelly5522  4 года назад +2

      Filipe Nunes i tested the DHR2 maxx grip up front not long ago. It was slightly faster and more lively than the DHF, just not quite as trustworthy when things get wild. But yeah super fast combo front and rear in the right conditions

    Hi Telly, do you like DH casings on the front as well or prefer a softer sidewalls?

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 года назад +1

      It depends on the application. If I’m racing a DH race I’ll run downhill casings front and rear to minimise the chances of a flat. Otherwise I prefer the lighter tyre up front for the rest of my general riding

    • @abelramos8652
      @abelramos8652 4 года назад

      @@mtbtelly5522 thanks for the input dude! but ... on the front is not nice to have a heavy casing for a more accurate steering, better feedback? At the end is the tire that goes first and the one that turn and takes more angles

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 года назад +1

      @@abelramos8652 i find the heavy casing to be a little more cumbersome on regular trails so it takes more effort to flick around on the slower trails. The heavy casings come into their own once the trails get faster and rougher. They’re more damped and make for a calmer ride.

    • @abelramos8652
      @abelramos8652 4 года назад

      @@mtbtelly5522 well i guess is very relative to say when is good or bad some regular trails are real fast, however i was talking more about some like the DD than hardcore DH casings.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 года назад +1

      @@abelramos8652 ah yep, I’ve got a bit of a thought about the Dd and exo plus casings. So the dd and exo plus are 120tpi casings and the exo and dh casings are 60tpi. I find the 60tpi in both tyres to be more durable than the 120tpi casings, they also feel stronger weight for weight. I love the Aggressor in the DD but wish it came in a dh casing. I’ve cut a few of them now so i might start leaning away from them. I’ve cut a couple of exo plus tyres as well quite randomly, and don’t rate them over the standard exo. The dhr2 in a dh casing is almost the same weight as it is in the dd casing, but the dd casing dhr2 is a little squirmy compared to the dh at the same pressure. So yeah the DD does give a softer sidewall than the dh, Improved protection over the exo but not excellent, and I’d avoid the exo plus completely

    I was planing on trying out the Wilds but went with Assegai Max grip DH casing f&r. The grip is unreal, wicked set up but rolling resistance is high. Hard to carry speed. But the grip levels are worth it...

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  4 года назад +1

      DUSTIN B. JOHNSON I haven’t tried it in a 2.6 before. But I’d say it would be slightly faster and more spritely than the dhf as long as the knobs aren’t effected by the growth in size and space. I have ridden the 27.5 2.8 dhr2 front and rear and they’re a bit vague and slippery on looser stuff
