Chad, must sure you don't get the lamps to close to the straw. Last month a lady had a Pot Belly pig outside and set her house on fire with a heat lamp. Pig pushed straw up against lamp and caused a fire. Lost her home. Don't want to over heat those little babies either. Life on the farm comes unexpected.
Here in Missouri we recently had an arctic blast taking temps down as low as -12 F (-18C) and we had 10 heat lamps in our barn for our geese and goats. The horses tolerate the cold really well as long as they are inside with plenty of hay and a heated bucket full of water. We find the red colored heat lamps are best as they don’t stress the animals as much allowing them to sleep better. Sometimes accidents happen but the main thing is you’re taking care of the piglets properly, which of course you are. Even though you didn’t expect, plan or need them you have to admit they will be a lot of fun!
@@fionnaitsradag5152 because the humidity level in Missouri frostbite to wattles and combs is our biggest concern. Also the same with our geese that have knobs on their beaks.

Yeah it’s hard not to find joy with new babies. I think they’re past the worst of it as I’m sure the first few days are the most dangerous. We’ll sure do all we can to help them survive. Thnx so much for the comment and welcome to the farm ❤️
Awwww, who doesn't love baby piglets? You're doing a wonderful job keeping them warm! Without those lamps my guess is that the piglets would try to crawl under/close to Mom to get warm and that's when they'd accidentally get smashed. The owner of the farm told us that a stressed pig could kill its own offspring. 😱 That's great that she trusts you so much that you can be near her and talk. Cute piglets!
