OK I love planes, but just realized how unique this sound was during the 80s and 90s, I think I flew in DC-9s in Europe and the 737-200s in Asia. The new airliners are just tooOo quiet, heheheh
I worked for Eastern for 16 years. JT8D is a great power plant. Will go down in aviation history as one of the best. But that seat on the MD80 is the worst ever seat. Riding on a C3 pass with a full plane i got that seat a lot.

To me It sounds like a 2 stroke at very high revs. Very unique sound.

That is so weird taking off to the east out of LAS. Every time I've been to Vegas, it's been a west arrival or departure.
Nothing quite like the good old JT8D, whether original or -217C.
I can even smell the stale fragranced air in the cabin …
