Question for Viewers: Are knees a legit self defense technique or just sport? They are taught all the time in self defense programs but are they ever used?

    • @Boasill

I've used knees in a self defense situation at least once. Personally it worked for me.

Never been in a street fight, but from MMA and Muay Thai I know that good knees are probably the most effective strike there is. And for street fights, there's no risk of breaking your hands or your shins, and they're harder to catch than kicks.

    • @RennyRe
      @RennyRe 5 лет назад +4

A front headlock and knees are a great way to deal with someone in a street fight, if you have some basic knowledge in takedown defense.

Good stuff..Mike Mouse! have you ever thought of me when you're saying..a man dance?..I imagined you naked already...I liked women before..what the fuck you did to me?. plus you didnt respond to my love letters?..
Yes...a knee in the balls is better than,,bite the nuts,,..method is valid is you are so hapless to go close to Mike Tyson?..is the only way,or you bite his earlobe!
But in real street fights...it doent work,sorry....you know last time when I let you hit my dick with your forehead?..I bet you still are dizzy...
Problem in street fight is this..you are so close to apply the knee..then you are close enough to apply the hand..capish espaniol muchachos?..aribba!
      Kissi:)
ps..write me..I miss your love letters!

I went to a Dellegrotte seminar and he had us do the last knee you show here as well. It's odd for sure, but very effective.
Also I have seen a few people use knees in self defense (from the clinch) quite effectively.

Push the bag with straight arms until it's way up at 60 degrees, hold it there and knee it with alternate knees. Absolutely f'kin knackering, and it teaches you to really stretch.

I feel called out lol. I like those knee strikes, they feel good for close range counter attacks. My knee strikes are looking like 300 pounds because they tipped over a 300 pound kicking bag just barely. 300 feels pretty good to me.

I'm small too and the last time I clinched up with someone in Muay Thai Sparring I got kneed in the head :D . Ever since then I rely more on overhands and kicks to the legs and body set up by those overhands. A great way to set up your overhand is to establish a nice painful power-jab or cross to the body/solar plexus of the tall guy. Then they think low, you punch to the head and kick to the body or legs again.

Some Muay Thai trainers will say, "Scrape something off the sole of your foot". Now it's weird, but that just somehow sets you up for the knee. It's the right leg, low kick, they say, "Stamp your right foot, and relax". Again, there's something about stamp, relax, rotate that just seems to cause the kick.

I'm scared to throw knees at certain angles because sometimes it literally smashes my kneecap in weird directions. Is this a normal problem or do I have loose ligaments ? I don't understand how you land like a skip knee without pushing your kneecap down towards your shin

When learning it... yeah, make it as exact and precise as you can in training, then hopefully you retain as much control as possible under the stress of an actual fight. When your technique is perfect or close to, the power will come.

I wish my karate sensei had taught me some of these. Fight one week away. I wonder if I can manage a stuffing knee in that time. The opponent will never had seen it before and may presume it is just a defence. But, being so old, I am finding that it is difficult to get my knee up there, despite the fact I have been practising the Tsukamoto knee yourself in the face move.
This is a good one, by way of an attempt at gratitude, from Karate. Tsukamoto says here
    ruclips.net/video/gqBRIUj9tFk/видео.html
it is difficult to knee people in face like a bag infront of you. They get out of the way (he does not mention it but the kneer may have residual reticence). And they are out in front of you and further away. So...
    1) Practice kneeing yourself in the face from the front then the side.
    2) Put your face beside your opponents face.
    3) Knee yourself in the face again with their face in the way.
    4) If that does not work, knee them again in the side, but do a flying knee up the middle with the first knee as just a decoy for the second up the middle flyer.

0:04-0:07 why on earth do you drop or throw your arm at kneeing distance? A good left hook and it's good night. At that range protection is way more important than any minute gain in power obtained by opening the defense.
