I'd spray with an exterior protectant. It'll extend the life of the reed.

This is such a great idea!! I have 6 white post that I dislike in my lanai. I was trying to figure out what to do with them. I figured I can hire someone to cover them with wood and make them look like a wood rustic post, but once I heard the price I started looking on RUclips and found you!! Whoa 🤯 looks great before the oat wrap. I need a cover! Did you build that or does the cover with the home style or deck/patio? I’d guess that’s how they made them 100 years ago?! We don’t have that style in too many home in Minneapolis MN were a 4 season.,
The patio cover was built into the home.

Did you cut your palm thatching runner shorter then the 35" Length that you have linked? Or is that 35" but just doesn't look it?

You might try Island Wide Palm Trees out of New York. They sell big ones up there and protection covers too, I think.
