On this part of this show, with the skeleton costumes, they are just actors. On recent iterations of the Kami Band, they now have masks so the different musicians that step in, won't be so "noticeable". In this event, Su-Metal was 16yo. Moa and Yui 15yo, if not mistaken.

Saw them on the internet for the first time years ago and loved it!!! Then I saw them live at the House of Blues in Chicago and been hooked ever since!!!!
Nice reaction. Too late on not giving them anymore chocolate. After this they did a show where they were given giant chocolate bars and Yui and Moa held them up during this song. Kawaii angels of metal. Moa has said the wants to do more songs about food. Surprise!!! Not really Moa is the foodie of the group. During an interview Su was asked if she like a food she ate. Su turned to Mao for the answer. Moa said yes. And Su liked it. Later Su would mention how she realized how much she leaned on Moa after Yui left. That interview was the perfect example of that. It would show in other interviews as Su would Slightly turn to Moa who would nod in approval of answers Su was giving. Sometimes it seemed like they were talking telepathically. Even Yui would get in on that as the 3 of them would be nodding to each other. Hmm maybe only official members of Babymetal can do that. Enjoy the ride through the fox hole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

It isn't actually the Kami band performing in this video. Its the studio version from the album being played over a live performance video. The Kami band also didn't perform the bulk of the concert seen in the video, they only appeared for the encore at the end. The band in the video are known as Babybones and aren't actually playing the instruments at all, they're just miming to the music track.
Just smelling that band would keep me awake for a week! Such energy!!!
Baby Metal has a special place in my heart. If not for the their success and how much I liked them. I wouldn't have found Band Maid. My favorite band on the planet! Love Baby Metal. This was at the same place you saw "Headbanger!!" previously so they had 16 (day after SuMetal birthday) and 14 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal). Next July 4 is MoaMetal birthday 😉
Kami means god, and they were send by the Fox God (Kitsune Sama) to help our girls with the metal sound, however this clip and the first part of this live concert don't have the Kami Band sound, it only got SuMetal's live vocals and the backing band is called "baby-bones", the MV got the studio album track, you'll see and hear the Kami Band at the final 5 songs (4 exactly).

This choreography can be tiring even for professional dancers, but they can afford to act with facial expressions.

That's true and I can proof it. Babymetal came from Sakura Gakuin. Their were some other girls from Sakura Gakuin who wanted to do a cover of Gimme Choco.
After their very first try at performing the dancing. They were already dead tired. And these are girls at about the same age as Babymetal in the MV and had similar professional training.
And at a live show Babymetal obviously doesn't do just one song...
There is a video of Riho, a professional dancer and ASH classmate of Su, dancing in Yui's spot. The video shows SuMoa noncoherently going to table on-stage for water for quick break. Meanwhile Riho is standing there panting like she just ran a sprint. 🫁 As the show progressed, Riho grew increasing more tired and was barely able to keep up at the end.
SuMoa's stamina is amazing! Moa is extremely buff for someone her size with multiple pictures showing her "guns"
@@GenTzu their has long been a debate about it at the time (Glastonbury) among fans. In an interview in 2015 Babymetal has said they have started to learn how to pace themselves. So it's very much possible Riho hadn't learned to do so yet. Probably a bit of both.

This is their WTF MV. Before 2014 Sonisphere this was released in Europe, so some of the festival crowd knew about them only from "Gimme Chocolate".
This is the Legend of 1997 concert and Su is 16 and Yui and Moa are 14. It was this concert when they introduced the Kami Band. The "Band" behind them in this video are the BabyBones who miming not playing any instruments.
Legend of 1997 concert was their coming out as an independent group/band from Sarkura Gakuin.

Great reaction. This was the official music video, so the audio was taken from the studio version and dubbed over the live performance ... that was not the Kami Band you were hearing (they do not record the studio versions - we only know of one of the guitarists who has been involved in some of the studio recordings).
This was at the Legend 1997 concert the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday in December 2013. Yui and Moa were both 14. This was also the last big show where the Babybones (the guys in skeleton suits pretending to play the instruments) were on stage.
The Kami Band came on for the last 5 songs at this concert - they were being phased in gradually from October 2012 playing a couple of festivals and the encores in a few shows and they became the full time support for all live shows from the Budokan concerts in March 2014.
'Gimme Chocolate' is great fun at live shows. It is a simple song - they just want some chocolate, but are a bit worried about their weight. But it is chocolate and would be so nice and would make them happy, so can they just have a piece of chocolate please?

This whole concept of combining JPop/Idol music with metal could have been a disaster, but the quality of the singing, songwriting, choreography and staging take it to another level.
'Gimme Chocolate!!' is definitely one of their "poppier" tracks.
Even so, that blast beat gets you. And the whole thing is about 10x heavier live.
This is the studio track over the live 'Legend 1997' concert footage which celebrated the lead singer's 16th birthday.
That was actually the world premiere of this song. Of course the choreography, etc. is already dialed in.
The live concert version sounded great, they could have used that for the video.
This show started off with the "Baby Bones" pretending to play instruments, including this song, but the live Kami Band finished the show with a five song encore.
They performed this song on the Stephen Colbert Show. He had no idea what to expect.

In regard to your comment about all the hard work everyone involved puts in; another reactor (forgive me Bisscute) who taught english in Japan, said he couldn't imagine what their schedule was like because it wasn't unusual for kids there to put in up to 12 hours a day between school, homework, various club & other school activities. That said, heres part of an interview they did with Rolling Stone (Japan) magazine in 2015 when the girls were still in school:
Rolling Stone: "What’s a typical day of rehearsal like?"
Su-Metal: "As you know, we have to go to school, so we can only practice after school. So, we do about four hours after."
Wow. In addition, when they were performing live & Su was doing a solo, Yui and Moa would be backstage doing their homework!

Great reference Doc Metal! Every minute they can squeeze in to do homework and study, they do. Many of the Sakura Gakuin girls did that because they were expected to keep up with their studies. There are also stories of the seniors helping their juniors with some of their homework. True sisterhood they had. And the mentality that their schoolwork is just as important as their rehearsals and recording time. So it makes you think when they went on their world tours, how much homework they must have had to bring with them. The girls work very hard, and it impresses me to no end.
And a bit of trivia, in the early years, Su-metal had been commuting weekly to and from her home town of Hiroshima to Tokyo. She would arrive in Tokyo after about a 5 hour bullet train ride from Hiroshima, stay in the dormitories and go home on Sunday. Eventually she moved to Tokyo to cut that commute, but the dedication they had is astounding.

@@docmetal8194 It was during her graduation speech where she talked about the lonely commute to and from Hiroshima. It was heart breaking when it sounded like Mariri did the same. Of course, through all of Mariri's tears. It was heartwrenching to see her cry so much because she had to leave SG before she was 15 to pursue her modeling career. You can totally tell she didn't want to leave. Even in her livestreams now, she still reminisces about that time, and occasionally sings one of the SG songs.
@@docmetal8194 There is one thing I learned about Su when she was young, that she will do whatever she needs to do to become a successful person (a superlady). There is a marked difference in just the one year she became student council president when she was 15. She forced herself to learn to articulate her communications and show she was a reliable 'elder sister' to the rest of the SG girls. When her mentors graduated the previous year, she was a blubbering mess. Just a year later at her own graduation, even though she had tears, she held her smile and stayed strong in front of the other girls to encourage them to continue to smile their best during the live graduation performance. It's one of the most heartbreaking graduations as she was the only graduate that year, and every single girl was going to miss her so much because of her support, help, and encouragement through out the 'school' year. I think nearly every one of the other 35 graduates look up and admire her for what she did to accomplish all that she's done. Even at that early age, she started learning english so she can do interviews, and learned lines in the native language of the country Babymetal was performing in. And even through all that, she still considered herself the 'elder' sister to both Yui and Moa and looked after them. That's dedication to the art, and the people she worked with. As it should be.
I think all of the girls in Sakura Gakuin idolizes and fangirls over each previous graduate. It's pretty cute to watch their reactions when a previous graduate did a surprise appearance on their weekly live stream.
I apologize for the long rambling messages. I seem to never get tired of fanboying over the girls, their bonds with each other, and their histories.

Live Kagerou is my fav - there's a really good live compilation out there. Kami band intro too - and the choreography, lyrics and......I'm dribbling again 🤪.But seriously - it's kick-arse. Failing that BxMxC live (MV is good but lacks the power and crowd response of the live) - but one where they're playing large venues ideally. Keep the good work up and great reactions! 👍
