Listen to Duets | Golden Gate Bridge: natemercereau....
I saw a headline in the San Francisco Chronicle that said the Golden Gate Bridge "humming is driving people crazy," and "a team of engineers is working to shut it up." When I heard phone recordings of the sounds the bridge was actually making, I knew there was potential to reframe these sounds as something unique and beautiful.
Renovations to the bridge have caused it to vibrate and "sing" in high winds, reverberating loud tones throughout the bay, effectively making it the largest wind instrument in the world. While I feel the pain of SF residents who are constantly subjected to this drone, there is nothing quite like hearing something so vastly large make that much sound powered by nature. It's an all encompassing immersive experience, even from a distance. The tones smear and crescendo as the wind picks up, and it gets so loud that at some points you can feel your own body vibrate with it. To get inside and create sounds with something so large and with that much history (including my own personal history of living in San Francisco) was an emotional experience. I could see my old neighborhood from the recording location! I hope that by sharing these duets I can offer a recorded artifact of a world renowned monument, and also an alternate perspective on its reverberations as something special to be appreciated while it's happening.
On May 18 and 19, Zach Parkes and I set up in the Marin Headlands to record duets with the Golden Gate Bridge, with Minea Bisset filming.

Same!!!
put in on my rock list and tripy music list thanks for the new music!
I was half expecting Waters, Mason and Wright to appear one by one and set up their gear, it was so reminiscent of the start of Pink Floyd at Pompeii*.
*Which, if you haven't already seen it, I recommend you check it out.
Peaceful, but eerie. Thanks for the beauty.
Beautiful
Leaving a comment because I seen this dude at the Atlanta Jazz Festival playing with 3 stacks, who said we need to check out this duet. Thank you all.
Lovely! I never heard the bridge sing when I lived in San Francisco. I could listen to your duet for hours!
Utterly amazing.

They need to let the BRIDGE keep Singing, just for awesome moments like this! ☮️💎💎💎

A true artist! I so admire your creative spirit. Keep showing us the world through your eyes.
I'm curious to know what frequency the bridge is humming at. This was beautiful.
Bullsh*t The Gameshow brought me here lol
Eu também kkkkk. E ele ainda errou a resposta
I grew up in harbour town close to the shipyard. The singing of the bridge is somehow very similar to the sound of the place where I spent most of my childhood and it is somehow hardwired into my brain and I didn't even know it before I found this. I needed this...
Aftab iqbal brought me here
This is lovely. Any chance you could share which synth pedal you are using?
Is the blue box an old Roland GR-300?
Yup. Tis is EXACTLY what I was looking for after somehow JUST NOW learning that she's humming and singing. Well done.
What a great idea. Sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing, Nate. :D
Nice video. Did you know that Lisbon (Portugal) has a bridge similar to The Golden Gate and it is called The 25th April Bridge
Who is listening this after the Khabarhar( @Aftab Iqbal Show)?❤️
This is great 👌👍
I heard about this from Andre 3000 talking about it yesterday at the Atlanta Jazz Festival. I don't know how he came up with this, but it's definitely dope!
I just heard a bit of this on NPR. Thank you for producing this music. As others have said, this reminds me very much of early Pink Floyd , especially Echoes. It also reminds me of a "singing bridge" near where I live. I love this. Thank you.
Could be considered the world’s largest instrument for that time
Richard Osman’s House of Games brought me here, it appeared as a question in one of the rounds today (22/03/2024)
Lovely.
Sounds like the whales are crying for us to save the planet and save each other.
This is sound of bridge cable when air touch and cross this cable.😊
Came here after listening about from Sir Aftab Iqbal
Who is here after watching Pakistani TV comedy Show"Khabarhar" By Aftab Iqbal and discussion about this video in the show.
dit was een vraag voor me kk examen
Love from Pakistan. U did excellent job
Oy, I had edited previous comment to say that despite being flat broke I did go ahead and pay for the download/stream because it's worth it. My apologies if my post appears more than once, which YT seems to want to do. Thank you again, I love the sound of this and your synthesis.
If you see this, Hamito, I'm sorry 😔
I love this. What an eerie, beautiful combination and interesting story. Our front door has a metal weather strip. When it gets really windy and the wind hits our door just right, the it makes a discordant multiple woodwinds sound with that whole strip acting as a reed! You can hear it in this video: ruclips.net/video/qGDJOc-j1iM/видео.html
All good until you can’t turn it off
wonderfully bringing out the tonality of the bridge
Thanks aftab sir ❤
Come from khabarhar
after khabarhaar ✌️
oh wow i love this
💜
deeply moving. just bought the album
This is the very definition of avant-garde rock.
OMG I can see why folks I know in San Francisco are talking about the bridge noise. I'd go crazy if I had to hear that all night. For those not in San Francisco, this is a recent development. The bridge maintainers added something to the bridge that is making it whistle like that.
killer
Wtf is this??
The description of the video explains it quite clearly. Not sure why you felt the need for the asinine comment.
Came here from Bulls*t the Game Show
Eu também kkkk
Nice Roland GR-300!
