@@vic-2200 Vic "Zombie" makes me cry too. Absolutely. The song can obviously be many things to many people so I am not trying to take anything away from you regarding what you get from this song, but I felt it was important to clarify the song's original intent since I think the message Dolores intended is important. The singer wrote this song in response to a splinter faction of the IRA bombing a shopping area in Warrington, England in 1993, which injured many and killed Jonathan Ball aged 3 and Tim Parry, age 12. It was part of The Troubles, an ongoing conflict that had lasted years in Northern Ireland. Thus, if you've ever seen it, the images in the music video for Zombie show real footage of the actual walls with paintings/graffiti referring to the Troubles as well as real British soldiers with guns. The video was shot in specific areas of Belfast. The footage was shot during the Troubles. Best wishes.

The lead singer's first name, "Dolores", means "pains" in Spanish. That's exactly what listening to her voice gives me, in the best possible way. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this... But it is funny how you keep mentioning this should be a part of a soundtrack, because for a couple of years now I can't listen to it without expecting to hear the voice of Erin Quinn from "Derry Girls". This was the song played in the most important moments of the show. I read somewhere, its use was approved by Dolores herself right before her untimely death - as she was initially involved with the soundtrack. This song is perfect for a show whose story focuses on a group of teens going to Catholic School in Derry, Northern Ireland during the Troubles. It is funny, sad, ridiculous, poignat, etc. And it is the main song of the beautiful depiction of one of the most important moments of recent history - the signing of The Good Friday Agreement - as seen through the lense of teenagers just leaving school hoping for a brighter and more peaceful future.

The “backup” vocal (heard several times throughout the song, and especially in the outro) is actually Delores, recorded on a different track. Many female singers with distinctive voices do this. AT my sisters high school graduation in 2001, her and her friends (including one of my band's former drummers) formed a band and her classmates overwhelmingly wanted this to be their graduation song. That alone left me overjoyed! She sang it as a duet with a friend, and they NAILED the vocals and harmonies, and just before the event, told their hesitant and amazing guitarist to go ahead and shred during the climax at the end. It was absolutely INCREDIBLE!! They took this timeless beyond beautiful song, made it their own while staying true to the original. I was completely entranced and overcome with such ethereal joy as I watched and listened to these young kids play something that I grew up with, played, and adored when I was in high school, while they totally blew everyone's minds with such pathos and sincerity. Seriously, to this day it is still one of my favorite live music performances I've ever experienced.

This song was played in many movie soundtracks. It’s just so freaking good it fits in a lot of different areas genre wise. Dolores’s vocals are just so sweeping on this song, considering she’s written it herself along with 65% of all the songs that the cranberries ever did, came from Dolores. As young as she was at that point, she had a way of drawing on melancholy, and injecting it into her lyrics. It’s amazing if you think about it, her music has an affect on people that’s so profound. God I hope I made sense, lol

Great reaction. Thank you for Sharing your time and will see you in the next one. Pentatonix did a great cover of this beautiful song. As you are new to the Cranberries you should also listen to their song, Zombie. It's a totally different experience but just as emotionally charged. Peace.

Cranberries song have some kind loving earnestness, but this song really takes on a different quality that I don't have words for, maybe nostalgia but its more than that, could be one of those songs that warm up the coldest robot in the future.

Listen to her singing "Ave Maria". I can't get through it without crying.

This has always been my favorite song of theirs. I've never heard one by them I don't like but I always come back to this one. Simple but beautiful lyrics and I love the drums on it.

This is the best way to describe that version - esp with the video. I've never been able to put my finger on why that video/song feels so different but you just did it - it feels like heaven - quite fitting RIP Dolores.

This has been one of my favorite reactions you have done. I was a junior in high school when this song came out.
