@@duckiesae Both good singers but Chris wasn't on hippy drugs, womaniser or a poser. And King? Why the American music industry only name American singers Kings and Queens?
Bizarrely I judge artists by the amount you hear about them....the less, the better. Chris is a guy you NEVER hear about. He comes across as a genuine, humble, talented guy and that's all we'd all like to be. Good man Chris.
Fool if you think its over is another underrated some by Chris - I always liked his raspy voice and humbleness as a human. What a health story he has also - God bless him
I bought two copies of Fool If You Think It's Over, because I wore the first one out! Then I bought a copy of Diamonds in 1979. Never heard anything more from Chris Rea until Christmas of 2012 when I heard Driving Home For Christmas for the very first time. Divorce left me separated from my daughters by half a continent. I saw them in the summer, and at Thanksgiving, but 2012 was the first Christmas I would be with them in twelve years. My rented Ford Focus clawed its way through the snow-covered Colorado mountains without missing a beat, and it was on that journey I heard this song for the first time. I actually wasn't driving home, I was driving to visit, but the love and the anticipation were exactly the same. This song truly summed up what that Christmas visit meant to me, and I think this must be my favorite Christmas song now. Thank you, Chris Rea.
Met Chris in a pub in Boro many years ago..a down to Earth guy..no big time rock star from this fella.. Mentioned that I had all his albums..benny santini..wired to the moon..bloody hell he said you are a fan..bought him a beer had a damn good chat..they say you should never meet your heroes..glad I did..Chris just keep on doing what you do...please
I suppose, like most people, by the time Christmas Day arrives, I'm sick to the back teeth of Christmas songs. But I never tire of this. Having lived in that part of the world for a few years, I can relate to that humble, easy going, live and let live ethos up there. Lovely bloke and a great talent.
It's funny how dumbfucks straight away have to come on and knock somebody's opinion down on what they like best. It's so fucking typical on RUclips. The best song ever for anything is purely subjective. It is correct for every individual. But dumbfucks don't understand this.
I'm a truck driver! This song perfectly describes my last day at work before Christmas. Every year I wish a Merry Christmas with this song on my social media page! Evergreen! Thanks for it!
This song is so evocative for me. I used to be sales rep covering a large territory and I had a wife and two young children who depended on me. It brings back memories of the last working day of the year sitting in a cold car, starting the engine, putting on the heater and radio facing the prospect of a long drive home in the dark in bad weather. If the rain turned to snow a two hour journey could take all night.
Its a beautiful Christmas song , the words " driving home for Christmas" first thought to come to me was a trucker on the road trying to get home to his family Christmas eve day , its got to be up in the top 5 Christmas songs
My father died a few days before christmas many years ago.....i returned to england to be there for my mum.....but I had to return to france where i live.....this song came on the radio in the car.....got home about a quarter to midnight on xmas eve , my face drenched with tears.....haven't been able to listen to this wonderful song for years......Chris has gone through more shit than many can even consider.....his resilience is amazing......
As I’m living in Sussex and from the Northeast, driving up for Christmas was a wonderful feeling, being greeted by a coal fire and seeing my relatives again. Sadly now they’re not with us anymore, so this song makes me so sad.
Exactly the same here. I remember driving up there listening to this on the radio feeling so happy and Christmasy but just like you, sadly they are all gone now.
What a great story told by the humble and down to earth man. This song reminds me of driving home from home from San Diego aboard the USS Paul Revere many years ago. Thanks Chris !
This is my favourite Christmas song and it takes me back to when I was a child in Birmingham and the snow! I have spent all my adult life in Australia, which while I love the place, it's so much different at xmas in the heat! I often play it while in the shower any time of the year. Thanks Chris, you are a legend mate.
Its all the memories this song brings back. Our fsmily would drive 1100 miles at Christmas to be with family. This song touches my heart so with the lyrics. Its my favorite Christmas song
I can't listen and see this without crying, I am an old boy, old school, this is brilliant. I have had the privilege to be at Chris's concerts at least three times with my beautiful wife by my side and can only say what a great bloke Chris is, I wish him and his family every happiness, he has brought so much happiness to us just listening to him and his music.
I heard Fool if you think it's over back when it came out and since then I have purchased every LP/CD he ever did with Road to Hell being my Favorite song of All! Love the guy and his music!!!
Chris is a gent and very down to earth - I’m so glad I knew him in his younger days! His illness and debilitating challenges are unknown to many but he’s a real trooper and love sFerraris!
And his wee Caterham 7! :-) He certainly has had a torrid time with his pancreatic cancer, but he continues to astound doctors, and confound the disease, by still soldiering on. I was lucky enough to attend a few of his concerts over here in Belfast. Happy memories...
Chris Rea has made such great music over the years, His is so humble, had overcome such adversities yet remains steadfast in what he does best, Write & Sing with is incredible voice.
This is such a beautiful song. When I heard it being played in a bar. I instantly fell in love with it. It ranks in the top 5 as one of my all time favorite Christmas songs.
I heard Driving Home For Christmas around 5 years ago while at a grocery store (Vons) and instantly loved it. I find myself seeking it during Christmas year after year. It's become one of my favorite Christmas songs. I actually can listen to RUclips 1 hour version. It has a nostalgia feel like "I'll Be Home For Christmas ". Great song.
I'm not a fan of Christmas songs as I have no good memories from childhood (adopted at birth in 1957) but when asked what my favourite Christmas song was, this popped into my head, had many of his albums over his career and when taking my birth Fathers ashes to be scattered today in the grounds of a church in Fremantle, Western Australia this afternoon I chose this to be on loop in my home studio as I left for the trip in my neighbours BMW (found my birth father in my 30's, I'm 64 now and he died at 81) so we spread them on his holy ground which was the Church where he was married. I hope you can battle on Chris as I know health problems too well and this lifted my spirit today. Your music keeps people going. Peace!!
Listening to this song on my way back home from working a night shift. It’s now Christmas Eve, 2021. Feeling lonely but this song is keeping me company on this hour and a half drive. Soon I’ll be home and spend time with my beautiful woman and my loved ones. Merry Christmas to you all!
I cannot even begin to say what the song has meant to me, when it comes on the radio or I play it...my mind goes to my parents who I have lost...thank you....
My Dad left us July 2020. 20 days shy of his 89th birthday. Miss and love you Dad. Christmas with COVID was certainly different, especially not being with my family. Thank you for this Mr Rea for the most beautiful song and video. Greetings from Canada. 🇨🇦👋
I love Chris Rea. I love Driving Home For Christmas and I love watching him tell the story of the song. I love all his music. Just can't say enough good things about this brilliant and talented man.
A timeless classic that has aged beautifully and sounds so fresh. Absolutely one of my favourite Christmas songs, no question about it and Chris is a great guy too.
Seriously, probably the only Christmas song I'm not sick and tired of hearing

Why is this song SOOO enchanting??? Love this song.
The only modern Christmas song.
Hands down the best Christmas song ever.
a great non-cheesy xmas song. All time favourite no doubt.
No ego, just talent. A fabulous voice and a great live slide guitar man.

There’s something so incredibly human about Chris. This song is a reflection of that.

No matter how stresed I get at Christmas, when I hear this I smile from ear to ear. It's just pure magic and I love it.
I (kind of) smile and cry at the same time. Doesn't make sense I know...
This song is 35 years old . Magnificent melody..We all love you Chris
