Yup, that's a good point. Thor might be a shitty dad, but his sons are just as cruel and violent as he is. One factor might be that he raised his sons to be arrogant assholes, but now they're grown men who have no excuse and take no responsibility for their actions.

@@Enndorii he is actually quite often. Thor is seen as the protector of humanity as he often saves large numbers of people from harm. He’s a bit thick but overall his heart is in the right place. GOW’s entire point is to flip the script, the Titans are the good guys, the giants were right all along. This of course gives us much more interesting and fleshed out enemies to bash to a bloody pulp
Imagine if there was a choice of who kratos kills which brother first Meaning you can kill modi first and magni will flee in slight terror... Come back similar to modi did and eventually die... Some dialogue would probably be different but I still think it'd be a neat touch
“The sons of Thor will destroy you!” “The sons of Thor are welcome to try!” “HEAD!” “Sorry! Overstepped, ya?” That shit is hilarious as well as amazingly timed!!!!
Fun fact: the Daughter of thor and the sister of magni and modi is named Thrud the barbarian and she shares the same name for one the Valkyries (not in the game)
5:12 Interesting, they Allude to Thrúd Which is great for shadowing for Ragnarok but then they say they had different mums but in that game they imply that Sif is Is there mother of both of them so......
It's a contentious part of the mythology. Modi's mother is never mentioned anywhere in the mythology so we assume it's Lady Sif. Magni's mother is said to be a jotunn called Jarnsaxa but there is also arguments that Jarnsaxa might be another name for Sif, as many figures in their mythology had multiple names, depending on which people were talking of them (I.E. the Vanir Gods might have a different name for a person than the Aesir Gods did, or the Jotunn might) Now it's possible Magni is Sif's or it's possible Thor had a Jotunn wife or lover at a point in the past... Which is considerably darker because there is a significant possibility he, or one of his family, killed her when the boy was very young. It's also contentious if Freya was also Frigg, Odin's wife under a different name, an Aesir name. It's not for certain because most of these mythology stories were passed down by word of mouth, not in writing and had evolved in many ways so the stories one family told their children might have changed somewhat from the stories another family told. One thing supporting the idea Freya might have actually been Frigg is that Freya is said to have a husband called simply Od in a number of stories, which is suspiciously close to Odin and one might argue was a Vanir name for him. Edit: The story about Modi getting assmad he wasn't partially credited for pulling the giant off of Thor is funny when you know the mythology. Magni, the older of the brothers, was a 3 day old newborn when he did that feat and so Modi would not have been born yet. I kinda like this tale where they did it together and the 'runt' of the two got neglected.
nice joke but at the end of the game we learn that kratos actually chose atreus because of a spartan warrior he met and faye wanted loki (norse god of mischief)
You put some serious work into these videos man. You do some nice transitions from scenes and excellent work with your thumbnails. Definitely subscribing
I imagine people don't know what Kratos looks like now, he looks very different from his younger days. For all we know, the Norse Pantheon might be even stronger, if the story about Thor killing thousands of giants is accurate. At any rate, Baldr was looking for a giant and he showed up at Kratos's door, hence he assumed Kratos was a giant.
I like this whole little section of the game with Magni and Modi; Atreus discovers his lineage, enjoys it, a bit too much, goes through a journey of humility, and comes out of it with perspective.
As you all know, Thor is the son of Odin and Jord (a.k.a. Earth, Gaia’s Norse counterpart). Thor is married to the goddess, Sif who had Thrud and Modi as their children. Thor had an affair with another woman named, Jarnsaxa and had Magni has their son. Modi and Thrud are full siblings while their half brother is Magni. Make sense?
@@callmev3531 Yeah man, he tried. Btw I watched an interview with Cory and he mentioned that Kratos is actually cursed by the Olympians gods to walk on "earth" forever, to regret for what he has done and shit. Nobody seemed to have noticed that man and are wondering that he could die in the next game, total bullshit considering that quote right?
I can't remember when it happens, but shortly after magni dies, during a scene with the dwarfs I think, you see it start to rain and thunder. The implication being that modi told Thor what happened and Thor, enraged, is beating the everloving shit out of him Update: it was during Atreus' edgy phase when he yells at sindri for only talking about how bad Brock is
I think also since modi was bullied by magni, he wanted a weaker or underling to either belittle it or have someone other than magni for company. Always trying tp prove that he was worthy and all to his dad and grandad might have made him like that.
I like how of all the plethora of Gods in the Norse pantheon, the devs decide to choose to include two relatively obscure Gods pretty unknown by mainstream audiences into their game. Its pretty cool.
Marvelconnoisseur ikr legit young bloodlust Kratos would kill the entire Norse pantheon in a day I think he’s more powerful now as he got older but I think he holds back I think in the next game we might see him revert back to his old ways somehow to beat Thor
@@takeingchances3215 The Greek magic is dead, Kratos is in another territory, that's why he is weaker. Zeus and some of the other olympians were old but still really powerful.
"Hey, did you hear? Magni, the Aesir God, son of Thor? Dead! I know, right? Modi's on a rampage through Midgard, searching for the killer, swearing that when he finds them he'll- Oh shit that was you guys."
The way magni and kratos square up on each other is so good lol. Magni is all smug thinking this is just another enemy for him to defeat, while kratos stands stoic and says only one word to magni showing he’s clearly a much greater threat than magni can even fathom.
Tristan Bigornia Hermes shown more balls than modi, Hell even bloody HERA had more BALLS and she doesn't even have them!! P.S Hera was wasted back then... So... Maybe not?
they are demigods, hercules is powerful but perseus and theseus were also demigods and they weren't that impressive in the past god of war games. i think each demigod has different levels of power.
Well Magni is actually quite strong being stronger than his father. It is also confirmed in the story of Mimir and he is supposed to be the smartest man alive. Well people call thor in god of war pathetic but he had the power to shake all the 9 realms when fighting the world serpant and send it back in time. If that isn't strength I don't know what is.
12:45 "Hey? Did you hear? Magni, the aesir God, son of Thor? Dead! I know! Now Modi's on a rampage across Midgard. Looking for the killer, swearing that once he finds him he'll--oh shit that was you guys."
"I guess that's why you don't like to talk about your mother and father?" Boy... if you only knew who Kratos' father was... you'd understand why he doesn't like to talk about him... some things are just better left in the past
@@dafilmqueen556 Np. In fact, I'm pretty sure Kratos is just as pissed during that fight. But he tries keep his cool to not lose whatever advantage they have. And when he is cornered by Magni, he has enough. The rage gave him enough strength to overpower Magni. As for Modi... you get it
He probably was more taken back that him and Magni were fated to survive Ragnarök(though it's bit unclear will they survive it in that sense of a word or are they resurrected after their demise, as Baldur is fated to do), while Thor, Odin, Tyr and Freyr who were among the most powerful of norse gods are all destined to die. Apparently propechy went out of the window there.
2:35 You know what's funny? I had Kratos say the "They are Fools" line in a different tone, much less confident than he does here, more like if he's asking a question.
Wow, Just stumbled upon this again in my playtrhough and double-checked. So there's several different deliveries from all characters that the dialogue is recorded in, one take for The Boat and the Travel Room it seems, another for Realm Door Travel. Fascinating
Love how Kratos wasted no time turning his focus to Modi right after he made a second mouth for Magni, as if telling "So, you wanna stop or you wanna follow your brother?".
I knew I recognized their voices! Troy Baker and Nolan North together again! I swear they have to be best friends in real life because they’re always doing the same things together! Batman, Shadow of Mordor, and now this!?
"THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES TO KILLING A GOD." "HOW DO YOU KNOW?!" Chills man...especially for people who played the original trilogy, we tend to joke about it but...chills.
Even though he died first I would say magni is the bigger threat out of the two. He is not burdened by the constant distaste he gets from his family. Unlike Modi who obviously just wants a brother who loves him for himself.
Magni is burdened by the distaste, just in a different way: Magni is the golden child and Modi is the scapegoat. Every abuse of Modi is abusive to Magni by extension.
I would've loved to see Mimir say something along the lines of "you sound familiar" to Magni because of Shadow of War (Troy baker voices Magni and in Shadow of War is Talion) (Alastair Duncan voices Mimir and in Shadow of War he voices Celebrimbor)
Little detail at 3:36 about Magni being blonder and getting all the credit for freeing their father Vikings actually adored blonde hair and thought it superior, most actually bleached their hair to make it blonde
I wish we actually got to see more of them, hear more from the real them in Vallhalla or otherwise. Maybe they could have changed, or at the very least I’d like their reaction to how Thrud’s doing and their father’s defeat. Or maybe have a more tender final reunion/fairwell to their mother Sif. Ragnarok had me wanting to see more of them.
I didn’t expect Modi to be the one who most resembled Thor out of the 2. Also, after fighting Thor in ragnarok, you can see where they get their shit talking from.
magni is the god of strength and modi, ironically in how he is shown in god of war, is the god of bravery they were both supposed to survive ragnarok, so maybe kratos and atreus changed something with the prophecy by killing them, it's of course a bit hard to tell since god of war does change alot in norse mythology
Fun fact: the reason why magni is taller than modi is because much like thor, magnis biological mother is a Giant by the name of jarnsaxsa making him practically a full giant.
Game is just one massive epic moment. The combat is a joy maybe the best in gaming. the axe is without doubt the best weapon in gaming with the chains a close 2nd. This Kratos is probably my favorite character.

5:12 Interesting, they Allude to Thrúd Which is great for shadowing for Ragnarok but then they say they had different mums but in that game they imply that Sif is Is there mother of both of them so......
Perhaps she adoped them after their biological mothers died of old age.
It's a contentious part of the mythology. Modi's mother is never mentioned anywhere in the mythology so we assume it's Lady Sif. Magni's mother is said to be a jotunn called Jarnsaxa but there is also arguments that Jarnsaxa might be another name for Sif, as many figures in their mythology had multiple names, depending on which people were talking of them (I.E. the Vanir Gods might have a different name for a person than the Aesir Gods did, or the Jotunn might)
Now it's possible Magni is Sif's or it's possible Thor had a Jotunn wife or lover at a point in the past...
Sif raised them as her sons. In some way, Sif is their mother, but not by blood.

Man, you made my day. Thank you.
Whoever did the voice casting of this game needs to get a raise right now if they haven’t given them one already
The fact that they haven't realize who Kratos is....and who he has faced before(Zeus) is baffling
cuz there were no one left alive to tell the tale
There wasn’t really anyone left to tell what he looked like. Mimir only figured it out once
He knew he was Greek, and who his father was
They thought he was an old Giant, Baldur thought the same too. Too bad the person they forced to fight them was ANYTHING but a Giant.
So... What are the chances that Magni and Modi's sister come looking for revenge in the sequel?
Mimir was about to say her name but Kratos was like, "we do not have time for this shit."
Jeremy Woodruff
looking at her brothers, she probably is as much of a shithead like them
Is it wrong that I'm hoping she's the black sheep of the family in terms of that she'll be a good for who might actually try to help the trio out.

Make sense?
Anthony Duran guess magni was the successor
