Super sweet video dude! It's great to see a comprehensive list like this and get stoked on ideas for winter. Hitting them all in a season would be the dream eh.
White Water is my personal favourite. I’ve had some unbelievable snow days there and Nelson is just a good time. Great video as usual.
Thanks! I'd love to check White Water out someday, looks amazing
A beautiful review and scenic video!!! Makes me want to go skiing NOW !!! :)
another great video man. really enjoying these
Haha thanks
With 45+ yrs skiing behind me, panorama is pathetic....er...kiddin'. It's the best. For a day off we hit Toby Creek for sledding. This resort is something special at Christmas time. A real life fairy book. It's a different vibe than enywhere else I have skied.
3:06 I feel the same way about Steamboat; first big resort I’ve ever skied, and I still have fond memories, even though I have new favorite ski areas.
We had the pleasure of visiting every single one of these hills during the 13/14 season.
Amazing experience and especially enjoyed riding the smaller, locally owned hills!
Great video my friend.
Thanks for the kind words! This video was inspired by your 13/14 ski trip. Cheers man!
Honoured to have spurred on this video man. Where about’s do you call home? Perhaps we can catch some laps together sometime down the road!
@@verndaddy69 Haha I'm in Alberta - call my home mountain Norquay.
Rich
So.. What was your top 3?
Having the privilege of skiing lots of the bigger mountains since I was young and still to this day it makes me feel really sad for the people that are limited to hills with less than a km of runs... and I'm over here complaining about Cypress! lol
Kicking horse is such a hidden Jem
Agreed!
I would go to revelstoke.
Jem
@@bracelee5402 tourists like you should go to revelstoke, that's where you belong. Be amongst your own kind
@@Skier72 do you know where the other 2 ski resorts (besides forbidden plateau, mount Washington and mount Cain) were on Vancouver island
when panorama is not in 3rd, AHHHH. Great video! I hope all resorts reopen soon.
Yeah, I used skiresort.info as a tool when I was scripting the video, so it came out 6th. Panorama is still my personal favorite of all of them though
Skied Big White, Silver Star, and Sunpeaks! All great resorts for skiing. I will have to check out Panorama based on your advice. Very well done on this video and the other ones I have seen. Would also like to come out in the summer.
Had my first ski experience at Little Mac as a two year old in the 1970s, it was just down the road from our house in Mackenzie.
I just skied at Little Mac a couple of days ago (Dec. 2021). I like the place. Small and cozy. Perfect place for kids to learn to ski. Nice platter lift. Much easier for most people than a T-bar.
I think I just found my new favorite channel on RUclips. Cheers Brother. I was a traffic control guy out at Copper mountain in Colorado early 2000's after i gratuated high school. made my way to foreman. did some time in Breck peak 8. mostly just parking. toll booth Willy. They gave me a nice company vehicle. wasn't a bad gig. I miss the mountains. I'd move back in a heartbeat if anybody's lookin for a roomate. I can cook. Have Residancy. Born in Colorado. Love your channel. Thank you.
Hey thanks for the compliment, appreciate it!
Hey there.... moving to Colorado very soon from Canada. Very hyped to be honest. Which resorts would u recommend for intermediate boarders in Colorado??? Thanks :)
4,757 is actually how much acreage just the Whistler side has. Combine that with Blackcomb's 3,414 acres, and the total acreage is 8,171 at Whistler Blackcomb. That makes it not only the most internationally recognized, but also the biggest ski resort in North America.
Good catch. Truly a massive mountain. I'll have to visit someday.
big white has better snow though & way less crowded :P though blackcomb was pretty fun
huuuge underrate on Powder King. 1200cm and some of the best tree skiing in Canada. iykyk
The Whisper of The North
Yea I’ve been there 4 times the powder is always so good
Thanks for putting this video together. I'm pretty bummed by the conditions this season in Grouse (i have a pass), looking forward to exploring other resorts around the interior.
Isn’t grouse normally slushy cement coastal snow ball snow?
@@holdenbaldassi3697 yeah, the first weeks of this season it was an absolute slushy mess. Now we're having some powder days but the powder over here is very sticky.
@@matiasgibbs251 I used to live in whistler and it was the same. I’m at big white this season and the snow here has been insane. It just gets very foggy here.
Glad to be a new subscriber. Worked with A.R. trying to build Cayoosh.. but then again, if it were… we might not have the Sun Peaks of today (Todd..). Look forward to seeing more of your narrative… good job 👍
I'm scripting a video about proposed ski resorts in BC ... if you have time, would like to talk with you further about Cayoosh. Interesting place.

Amazing video! I hope to make one like it for Ontario and Québec!
Let me know when you do! I'm also in the middle of a video on ski resorts in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Yukon, and another video on abandoned ski resorts in Western Canada. The latter video should be out sometime next week (if I can finish editing), so look forward to that!
@@Skier72 you should do Ontario and Quebec as well-mine wouldn’t be as in depth as yours! Finding all the clips and images alone must take a lot of work
@@theroadnottakentravel I usually try to find videos on the resort's facebook page to use. I have considered doing Ontario and Quebec, but there are just so many ski resorts there, and I wouldn't even know where to start with them.
@@Skier72 I agree with 120 between both provinces! I’m about to release a short video on Ontario’s tallest 5 resorts to see what interest is stirred. Depending on the number of views, ill consider making a larger video showcasing the resorts in depth.
Nice video, I’ve been to quite a few but never have been skiing!
Love the video, just two points to make;
1 - whitewater is 20 minutes from Nelson, not 1:30. Easy mistake to make but makes a big difference.
2 - I think you might have a little bias towards Pano lol. It's great, I've got some bias towards it too, I've done a season there before and it's amazing, most of what you said is 100% true, but I think it's only fair to point out that it's not perfect and give a balanced view to anyone seriously considering going there; first and foremost it doesn't exactly get a ton of Snow, roughly 3 - 4 meters per season on average if I remember correctly. About the same as places like Sunshine and Lake Louise, definitely enough to keep it open December through April, but a far cry from the 10+ that places like Whistler, Revelstoke and Whitewater get each year (whitewater gets more than 13 m on average). The second point is that it's not a big party resort, the T-Bar can be pretty fun on the weekend but again, it's not going to be anything like Whistler for example in that regard, and it's separated from it's resort town my a 20 mountain pass drive, so it's not the place to go if skiing isn't your priority (although this can be a pro for many). The third thing is that it doesn't have much in the way of beginner terrain besides the bunny hill, you have to be decently competent to go above the first lift and there aren't any long winding green trails that take advantage of it's absolutely incredible views. Again, I absolutely adore Pano, the views are unmatched, and I think it has some of the best terrain in the province like you said, just wanted to give the counterpoints for anyone interested.
Thanks for your comment! Agreed, Pano is far from perfect and the snowfall is definitely less than Revy/Kicking Horse/Whitewater etc. Still a great place though. For some reason, I've never been to Revy yet (always driven past it lol), so maybe my mind would be changed with a trip there.
If you had to do a week in Fernie, Kicking Horse, Revelstoke or Panorama, which would you choose?
Have been to powder king 4 times I’m in Peace River, Alberta. One time I went there and I was on an easy blue and the powder was nearly waist deep and I literally got stuck lol
High quality
While the base area isn't in BC, Sunshine Village (or Banff Sunshine) is technically in BC.
That's true, however, I already talked about Sunshine in my "All Ski Resorts in Alberta" video (here: ruclips.net/video/_sRERsV9Pe8/видео.html )
I came back to this video and realized something, this is the Ultimate ski bucket list.
Stay tuned, tomorrow I have a 40 minute video dropping lol
@@Skier72oh god, hyped for that. No spoilers plz tho :)
Redo without the music background, can’t hear very well
I agree - it makes the whole thing muddy.
Whitewater is between 20-30 minutes from Nelson.
Ilovet British Columbia
Damn ive been to a lot of these. My favorite are Kicking Horse, Panorama, and Whistler
Pano is great
Big White segment. The term BIG WHITE OUT refers to the visibility at the hill when it gets fogged in.
LONG LIVE CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN
we’re still building booters up there💪
I disagree with your picks but the video quality is pretty good and I appreciate that ur giving a review on 40+ ski resorts. Personally I would put revelstoke a bit higher.
Thanks for your comment. This isn't a rating system, I actually used skiresort.info to help me organize the list. Personally, Panorama would be number 1 for me.
Red Mountain is my favorite. Only 7 miles or 11.3 kilometers from the US border so great for Americans and Canadians.
Red is awesome and so is the town of Rossland. Winter carnival is a hoot. Spent 8 days there a few years back and did not want to leave.
Im planning a March 6-12th trip. Do you think that is too late at red in terms of snow/weather?
@@michaelsutherland9069 That is typically one of the best times of the year to be up there. Since most of the average snowfall comes in February and March so it should be a great time up there. I am speaking from past experience been going up there for years and this is typically a pretty good time to go. Can get busy on a big powder, but total wait in line time for a lift on a big powder day is at max 30 mins. Red has enough acres though that people disperse pretty easily after the first hour or two after opening so crowd size depends on time of day. Very cool place to go highly recommend to everybody. Hope you enjoy your trip and maybe see you on the slopes. :)
@@kylerhopkins2645 Thank you!
I like Hudson bay mountain
Hoping to check out Whistler Blackcomb this coming season!
Yeah if you could, that'd be great! Hoping to get more Alberta hills this season for myself.
Most overrated resort out there! On average 30% more expensive than the next most expensive option too🤷♂️
Whistler Blackcomb’s a banger. I even checked out the bobsled course.
I would add a map of British Columbia and show where these resorts are from major airports like Vancouver
my ski coach was injured in the accident at Crystal. There is a new owner who plans to run ski touring operations, but it keeps getting delayed
Hopefully they can re-open. It would be good to have another ski area competing with Big White in the Kelowna market.
You can go there and hike or tour up if u leave a donation in the donation box
13:37
1. theres 24.2 km of trails instead of 10km
2. there was a platter lift by doppelmayr thats been disused for a few years, could that lift come from apex?
The platter came from the Timberland Ski Club by Williams Lake, which closed the year Mt. Timothy opened.
Mount Cain does have on hill over night accommodation! Cain sucks, tell your friends.
I stand corrected about the lodging. Of course Cain sucks, don't waste your time there :)
Cain sucks. Don’t go!
Ha-ha!!! Is that the locals telling us that Cain sucks because they want to keep the terrain all to themselves?
Cain is the worst
Sorry, as a local I can tell you that Apex is way closer than an hour and a half from Penticton. 45 mins at most.
Yes, thank you for that. There are several errors like that in the video, and I apologize for them.
You forgot to mention the ski hill that used to be in Salmon Arm BC.
Thanks! Do you know where it was located? I'd like to find it on Google Earth if possible.
I can't find any info on the google. but i know it was there cause I skied there. At the time it had no Lifts, but had a Snow cat shuttle
Which resort would you recommended for a ski season ?
Depends on which area of BC you are in.
Any of the 1st several - they are all fantastic places to ski and the skiing changes with every new snowfall.
I did one at Pano and it was great, probably a bit late now but if you have any questions feel free to reach out :)
Would anyone here recommend Panorama over Fernie and Kicking Horse? Just curious.
since when is Whitewater an hour and a half away from Nelson? I'd say 20 minutes at most
You're right, I stand corrected. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
Same for Penticton to Apex. I think I heard 1.5 hrs also. A bit less.
You forgot about Sunshine!
Even though it’s a VERY small part of the hill lmao.
Lol yes you are correct, both a part of Mt. Standish and Lookout Mountain are in BC.
@@Skier72 yeah Ikr I love seeing the “Welcome to BC” sign on the Standish chair. I was actually at Panorama the other day and I absolutely LOVED IT! Such an amazing hill, very similar to world class ski resorts and had excellent runs!
@@jackgodfrey. Panorama is my favorite mountain in BC. The layout skis really well, and you can get a ton of vert in a single day there. Would be nice if they replaced the sunbird chair with a detach though...
@@Skier72 so tru! Pano is my 3 favourite hill besides Lake Louse and Sunshine. Pano has such great snow aswell!

A card?
@@Skier72 Sorry, a map

Avoid Whistler like the plague. Since Vail bought both Whistler & Blackcomb lift tickets have skyrocketed up to $200 a day & condo & cabin rentals cost more then they do in Switzerland while the village is filled with Fat Texans wearing cowboy gear, Russians in head to toe fur & Saudi 's in flowing robes with their concubines in all black following behind them. Not to mention tour guides with flags that herd bus loads of Chinese tourists around the village. Its disgusting because it used to be an awesome family ski resort for families, ski bums & the average person looking for a cool ski vacation.
It was ruined after the Olympics. Not sure when Vail bought it. But it was kind of a north American secret until the Olympics in 2010. Then they updated the highway and the entire world learned about it. Since then it went down hill. Honestly there's much better snow at other more affordable and less busy resorts anyway.
I skiied Whistler in 2006 with my Dad coming from Wisconsin where vertical for an entire resort is 400'. Was eye opening. Working on taking my family out on a trip next winter and trying to plan to hit 2-3 places for a week with 1-2 bases of operation. Any suggestions for big skiing feel but not corporate. Kids are 9,11,13 and end up spending time in terrain parks otherwise they get bored.
All Vail resorts are off my list. Park City went to over $200 a few years ago after they bought them. Screw Vail!
@@michaelholt661 I enjoy Banff hitting Sunshine and Lake Louise. The town of Banff is awesome. Mt Norquay is right there as well for a third skiing option.
Saying that "Whistler and Blackcomb merged in 1997" (0:43) would be the same as saying that "Japan and the United States merged in 1945"....
(for the record, it happened in 1996...and the "Battle of Midway" was a real estate play called Taluswood)
Pretty sure it was 1997, not 96. (blog.whistlermuseum.org/2015/04/04/the-history-of-whistlers-lifts/ )
I understand that both Blackcomb and Whistler are incredibly different, but in the past few years, (especially with Peak 2 Peak), the mountains have really become one single resort. I have heard people refer to the place as "Whistler" or "Whistler-Blackcomb", but never just "Blackcomb". Maybe that's just me though.
Well, they did merge. It's 2 mountains but one ski area.
@@EmilioXTra Yes, it is one ski area....but how that came to be is not a "warm and fuzzy" merge story. It was a corporate take over after one party (Whistler) made a bad deal/decision leaving it vulnerable.
(I posted a detailed account of how it happened a month ago but it has been taken down)
Mt. Timothy is the best kept secret for the best BC pow 😈 nothing but ungroomed cariboo campagne
Kicking horse is the best mountain in Canada and it’s not close
The best resort is Baldy mountain
Yeah Baldy looks like a really amazing place to ski.
@@Skier72 yeah ive got a cabin up there, there was such nice pow up there this season so far
@@endurogod5230 Nice! I've never been there, but it looks like a really good ski layout with the more advanced runs up the eagle chair, and the easy-intermediate runs off the quad. Would be nice if they could get the T-Bar back up again, but I'm glad this place was able to come up from the dead, and they seem to have found a sustainable business model.
@@Skier72 yeah hoping so, my parents bought a large concrete-layed lot up there as well so were hoping that the situation is going to improve. I think they were just short staffed this season because of covid, but they had enough people to run the 2 lifts at least
And silverstar got bought by the company who owns Woodward!
Yup, Powdr corp. Surprised SilverStar isn't yet on the Ikon pass...
@@Skier72 sooon! But they really need to replace management there before any improvements can be made
@@Fknheck It's interesting how Vail, Alterra, Powdr, and Boyne have certain strongholds (like Vermont or Colorado), and yet, they also have areas (like Alberta) where they have no assets whatsoever. Makes me wonder if Vail (or another corporation) will one day buy RCR to increase their Canadian presence.
@@Skier72 vail is on their way out and powdr is looking interested👀
ang get your info right whitewater is 30 minutes from nelson not an hour and a half !!!!!
