Dad, you have raised a very confident daughter in Malin. You should be proud. Johan, "I guess they had different preferences back then." An excellent way to phrase it!
Only a crazed family of Vikings would jump in 15' water, swim, and log roll. Something no-one from Vancouver has ever done. All you needed were a few Canadian black flies to complete the experience. Congratulations !!!!!!!! ))))))))))))))
I have noticed with these Alaska/BC episodes that RAN's hull color perfectly complements the color of the waters it moves through. Thanks for the laughs, I needed a blanket just watching this one!
They say Abba and Volvo are Swedens greatest contribution to the world .. well i would like to add you guys to the list .. great vids beautifully crafted .. well done
I have completed watching every single episode over the last 4 days staying up til well past my bedtime most nights. The immense amount of work carrying camera equipment, filming, editing plus the frustrations you must have encountered hasn't gone unnoticed. In the end you have rewarded us all. I've cruised to quite a few of the places in Hawaii and the Gulf Islands plus Desolation Sound and a few points north being from Vancouver. Thanks again!!
G'day folks! Thanks for sharing the latest video...I love : RAN slicing through the glassy waters of the Sound, the fact that family members have also joined the crew, the amazing drone footage (I just can't get enough of the different perspective you get from the drone!) Thanks for taking me/us on a journey to such a beautiful part of the world. My little trip to Desolation Sound has been amazing!! Safe travels, as usual! Kind regards from hot and sunny Australia
Buena Ventura Explorer But , don't we hafta sauna first ? Then roll in the snow and Then jump into the frozen over lake ? That's what me Minnesota relatives told me about Finn life in the Minnesota . But , the ma n pa came west to Seattle after the war, only going back almost every year. But , only did sauna , no lake diving haaaaa ! Brrrrrrr haaaaa.
I never get tired of sailing in Desolation Sound. We usually begin our spring sailing season with a trip there, and finish our summers with another. I do hope you enjoyed our backyard here in Coast BC.
Greetings to my favorite Swedes. I used to think that when i started my 2020 crusing adventure from Calif. that I would go south. Now after the last few months and your videos I have decided that I will go north to Alaska first, and begin my journey south from there. You two have inspired me begin my journey in your footsteps through some of the most beautiful cruising grounds imaginable,Warm thanks and safe travels. Scott S/V Windchime
Johan and Malin, thank you for taken me and all the people on your trips. For showing use the beautiful landscape and moments you have. Your 20 minute video goes so fast by, I'm waiting fore the next one.
I have watched almost every video of yours up to this point. Thoroughly enjoyed the journey. I have a brand new appreciation for you as a fellow licorice lover, it is good to see someone with convictions of properly salty licorice.
There are many deep fjords around Desolation Sound. They have little tidal exchange and get quite warm in the summer months. Excellent swimming in 68F water temp. A special place, be glad that you are there late in the season and avoid the crowds - enjoy - and be watchful when you go to cross the Georgia Straight. A very long reach with big tides, it can be very rough even for seasoned ocean sailors such as yourselves.
Looking for the warm water? Go up to the head of the inlet on East Redonda Island, stern tie to a tree then carefully slip into the water, being careful to float in the top foot of water, which can warm up to 20 C in the peak of the summer because of no wind or currents. Don't stir the water up though, the water below 1 ft is likely 8 C
... laughing .... guess it is like a cold shower, after the initial shock, it can be rather plesant ..... you have a knack for capturing some captivating scenery .. well done ... have fun be safe, save our oceans ......
Ran family, true swedes to be enjoying 15c waters... another fantastic view of the inside passage of British Columbia. Thank you for introducing us to your family as well, I think your youngest brother might be catching the sailing bug...hope you two know all your smiles/fun are contagious!! Hope your enjoying your time with/family back in Sweden. Thank you...Malin & Johan!!
Oh my gosh! The colors, the water, the color of the trails, it all brought me back to growing up in the NW. Thank you guys for so beautifully capturing these moments.
It took me few minutes to realize I had a huge smile the entire time I watched the "Lumber Jack" logging roll. There is so much genuine happiness here!!
Lovely to see you in my neck of the woods, it's beautiful country. You're videos have done it justice. The trick to swimming in the cold BC waters is to stay in for at least 4 minutes. Your body acclimatizes, and then you can actually tough it out longer than you think. Of course the other trick is if the day is super hot, which isn't the case in september!
That was another great film and it was special to see you having fun with your family. Too late now but if you take the lid off most machines you can unbolt the heavy concrete block (from the top of the drum) to remove and carry separately.👍😂
You guys definitely have Viking blood coursing thru your veins.....I would have frozen in place swimming in that cold water but it was fun watching you go into momentary shock and playing on that log. There is beauty in every direction I look in this place and that may be the main reason I cannot stand big cities. Thank you for another great episode!!
With just the right timing of change of tide and wind warm surface water can pile into small bays and make them warm for swimming. Our small bay opend to the north with a large bay to the north so if the wind shifted from north to south on an incoming tide the warn water would come in.
I am very new to your channel, however, your filming is like liquid crystal. You are such a beautiful family. Cheers and keep going. Thank you for sharing your lives
Great video, it brings back memories as I was working with Crown Zellerbach in Cambell River 1980 building the #5 paper machine project. I also had my family visiting from Lund, Sweden and we sailed in my 26 ft Thunderbird sailboat to Desolution Sound. Always enjoy your videos and the excellent photography, looking forward to meet some day in the future.
Johan and Malin I so look forward to seeing your videos. Your filming is spectacular and makes me feel like I am there right with you. Thanks for sharing.
Savory Island, just a bit south of where you are here has the warmest waters north of Mexico. We sailed there this summer and the water temps were mid-20s. There are lots of little bays etc. in the Desolation Sound area that can get very warm, but of course that all depends on the tides, air temp. and sunshine from day to day. But good on you guys for swimming in the lake.
I see you are in Seattle right now! Welcome to this great city! Hope you enjoyed Sucia Island and all of the san juans! Most beautiful place on earth during the summer. A hidden gem.
It was wonderful to see your family visit. Mountains, waterfalls, trees, lakes, you captured everything perfectly between your hand held camera and the drone. Such beautiful country. Hope your family can stay a while longer. Watch out for bears! Love from Syracuse
Thank you for making me homesick! I miss the wilderness as I’m in the UK at the moment, but seriously, thank you for showing the world my backyard... Bryan from Vancouver
Hi Johan and Malin, I've been wathing your video's from episode one. The last episodes are absolute awesome, especially the nature scenes. Have a fabulous 2019. Greetings from Pretoria, South Africa.
It is nice having family visit in some of the more remote places. Off the beaten path lies much beauty. It was funny watching you guys in icy waters! I think someone lied about those waters being warm, except near a hot spring. Thanks again for taking us along for the adventure!
welcome to our great country ,now you are part Canadian for that cold, cold swim. I v been watching for some time now, and very happy you are able to come here, you have one of the best channels on sailing anywhere on the web.your very lucky and smart, keep up the great work and keep having fun, love your boat.
To find the warmest sea water in Desolation sound you need to find a long inlet, without a river flowing into it. the tides just go up and down here, there isn't much current. so the water gets "warm"
Well so, yes, I think I did see a Sequoia , a type of coastal redwood. Very high latitude for that. I live where most of them are, the ones that haven't been cut down. It was the one which was hollow. I grew up in forests where nothing but them could grow. They make a very small light wash machine for RVs . You should look into them. At least wash socks, underwear, maybe t-shirts.
This was an excellent episode! I mostly loved the part where you get the Finnish Tyrkisk Peber candies! Those are my absolute favorite candies! You can get them in the US if you order them through Amazon and they come shipped from Helsinki in about a week... Other than that they are not available here...
another spectacular video. I did travel through Desolation Sound twice with friends on a sailing charter and it seems around every corner is take your breath away scenery. some of the memorable anchorages were Prideaux Haven where we took kayaks out for a while and entered an area where there were multitudes of jellyfish, never seen anything like it. another special anchorage was Ramsey Arm where we all woke in the night to the anchor dragging! yikes, you've never seen the captain move so fast. but everything was ok and the location was fantastic. washed our hair in the waterfall and did some fishing there. Anyways, I am sure you have found your own favourite spots. Enjoy! Oh yes, we did this trip in September but the weather was very summer like so we were able to do the occasional swim off the boat. thanks again for showcasing our beautiful province!
Yes, caution is good around falls+"slippery." I saw someone slide in once and I spreadeagled myself and caught her hand as she was going by. Any more current and we could not have done that; the alternative was going to be a 150 foot drop. Luck was with us that time.
Dad, you have raised a very confident daughter in Malin. You should be proud.

We've also though about that, guess she's in her right element :)

It's great to see Malin's family on the boat.
In Michigan, you and your family would get the polar bear award for that swim.
Beautiful video, as always.

Swedes swimming in the water, Finns wait until the ice covers it. Bra video!

ONE THOUSAND THUMBS UP GUYS! - That was a lot of fun. I personally would not have been able to brave that water... you guys are true Vikings!

That’s so great to hear! We’re glad we’ve been able to inspire you to explore the north. Good luck and fair winds! 😊⛵️

Great scenery up there which Nobody can deny..!!! 😱😳👍✅
Beautiful videography! If these Swedish cruisers think the water is cold, I would surely die!

I'm sure it was nice to have family visiting for a few days. We chuckled when you guys humped in for a swim in the cold water.

More cold water swimming at the end. Gives me a giant happy grin. Love you guy!

Your videos are always awesome. The Alaskan and British Colombian coastline videos have been amazing.
True Viking family, swimming in that frigid water...and having fun doing it!!
Oh how pretty. And Johan's hair is coming back, too, lol.
Another awesome video. So nice to see a family enjoying nature together.

My word you guys are brave swimming in that cold water! Grattis!
Your videos haven’t lost the reason for sailing. Unlike those Aussie’s on the catamaran.
Thanks so much. Brought back wonderful memories. But we did not go swimming!
Beautiful place and cold water :)
It was wonderful to see your family visit. Mountains, waterfalls, trees, lakes, you captured everything perfectly between your hand held camera and the drone.

It's called " down to earth " ( or should l say 15° water 😬 ) living a wonderful life.
Thanks for share your movies.

So scary! It was really slippery there!
'Crazy Swedes... Swimmin' in that...I don't even DRINK water that cold....LOL Great Video Guys!
Brave souls swimming in that cold water. Good for you!
Damn straight ! 16 - 17 degrees?!?!? If I can refer to the Seinfeld episode that's major shrinkage.
Another awesome video!! Glad you re enjoying our great province. Thank you
A lovely happy video 😊😊😊
Hilarious playing on the log
It’s 41 degrees Celsius here in Australia (106F), so watching you swim was very enticing. Great video. Thank you.
time for us to head north. next July, thanks for the inspiration
Always nice to go swimming in the lake whenever I'm up there.
Awesome, welcome to Canada 🇨🇦
