I thank you for allowing me to go sailing again. I'm 88 years old and its been 25 years since I sold my 31 foot sloop which I cruised for 28 years. It is wonderful to go with you nice people and re-live what once was. I'm sure there are many folks just like me who love to go sailing again with you in our subconscious memories. Please take care and have a wonderful life. With love, Bob.
Hi Bob, like you I live with the memories of sailing around Scotland in my 32’ Cutlass....this wonderful couple has made me sleep a sleep of dreams...of changing sails plotting courses, and seeing the beautiful scenery. Live long my friend Bob⛵️
I love the honesty of this couple. No playing up for the camera. No over the top reactions. No hidden advertizing that I can see. No click bait. Don't change guys. If I ever encounter you on my trips I expect you will be as I see you now. Safe travels guys.
It's ssooooooo easy to click the 'thumbs up' icon even before watching a RAN episode. I find the combination of music, narrative and camera work are 'spot on' and provide a great relaxing 20 -25 minutes of viewing. Thank you RAN crew, I hope your future passages are as meaningful and enjoyable as the past. Great work :-)
That airplane was a Canadian classic... a De Havilland Beaver. They were first introduced back in the late 1940's and did a lot to open up the Canadian North. They are one of the quintessential Canadian "Bush Planes". They're still used a lot to fly between Vancouver and the Islands. They originally came with big old Radial engines with removable cylinder jugs but a lot of them have been converted to turbine engines. Great old planes. Happy B'day Malin!
Breakfast in bed on your birthday! Happy birthday Malin. I notice the effort you two put in on maintaining RAN, she always looks shipshape and ready to do your bidding. Good job.
Again, thank you for taking me places in my backyard that I’ve never been to. So beautiful and inspirational! FYI, that log with the slots in it was a part of an old float. We would make a float out of the biggest cedar logs we could find, usually three together. The slots were for the cross timbers that supported the deck boards. After a number of years the float would get water logged. We would use the extreme low tide to lash a log to the rocks, move the float over it at high tide, and then cut the line. The log would bob up an give the whole thing a lift. It was a big sketchy, but it worked! Bryan from Vancouver
You guys always do such a great job on your episodes, they are always so beautiful and well edited. The background music and the narration are always very calming and relaxing too. I love watching EVERY episode you guys do. Keep up the GREAT WORK.
Great video, as usual. I had to laugh when you commented about some motorboats not respecting the rules of the road. Seems to be a universal problem. In the summertime I teach sailing at a week long boating camp for kids 12 to 15 years of ago. Last summer we were out for a nice sail and I asked about everyone's boating experience. One of the girls said her family owned a 24 ft power boat. Another said her dad owns a 35 ft super power go fast boat. As we sail about and approach other boats, I quiz them on who has the right of way and why. After the girl with the 24 ft powerboat got several correct, she said her dad always does the same thing, quiz her on the rules of the road. The girl who's dad has the overpowered go fast volunteers, " I don't think my dad knows the rules. All he ever does in yell at the other boats." Explains a lot.
Linda and I primarily sail during the week due to the large number of inconsiderate motor boaters on the weekends. If it's not the pleasure motor boats, it's the lobster boats going past full throttle fifteen feet away. It's just easier to avoid them. Dave & Linda M/S Olivebank S/V Banyanda
Apparently, while it may be nerve wracking, according to the experts, you are supposed to hold your ground, even if it is a giant oil tanker in the Bay of Biscay. What are other options - a loud horn, supposing you can't contact them via radio?
the u.s.a. is phasing in the mandatory boat license rule. it will take a few more years but soon even all the crabby old stubborn guys will be required to take the minimum safety class to earn the boaters license to be able to drive even a small power boat.
Wow a sailing channel with a boat under sail !! Ha Ha , just poking a little fun at you , but it is really nice to see Ran under sail. A beautiful boat and a awesome crew . Best to you , stay safe and enjoy the wonders of this earth.
A beautiful part of the world to celebrate a birthday. Happy Birthday Malin! Sidney is a quaint little 'retirement' town that has grown so much over the years.
Best sailing channel of them all! The selection of music is just perfect! You show us the (fading) beauty of our planet! One day in the not so near future we all wish, we had a boat with sails! Thank you Malin and Johan!
We love going Ganges harbor as we have many friends living there. We have anchored on the east side in waters warm enough to swim in which was a surprise to us but we have never been to Fulford in all these years. One winter we kept our boat on the hard in Canoe Cove just south of the ferry docks in Sidney. From there you can take a bus (71 or 72) into downtown Victoria. From there you can catch another ferry to Port Angeles, WA. Very nice public transportation in this area! We have never been to Prevost but we heard it was nice. Don’t hurry back to your boat in Tacoma as there is lots of snow and cold weather. Probably more than Sweden. Enjoy your break from cruising a bit longer.
absolutely fabulous !! Was surprised to see fan palm trees in Canada and that they obviously survive the winter !! You guys are something special. Love the snug and head kiss as that is exactly what I do with my bride. Totally love romance. 😊👍👌🤘⛵️🚤🚣⚓️✨🍷✨
Guys, I don't know what it is but your videos are just so watchable. Thanks for taking the time to make such an enjoyable & relaxing video. Safe voyages
Coming into the first cove at 5:18 there, Landing behind you was a DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver With the Pratt & Whitney R-985 Radial engine on it, most likely a mid 1950’s model. They are STILL One of the best Bush flying float planes Ever made till this present day...!!😱😳🤔😎👍✅. 🤫
Another great video and colourful narration. I loved Malin referring to the trees as changing to their “winter wardrobe”. 😉 Wonderful weather to have celebrated your birthday and in a wonderful location too👌
Thank you so much for taking us in your adventures! And many thank you for promoting the BC Coast and all the beautiful places and spots. When I had the power I would you guys make honorary BCer!
I binge watched two episodes a day to catch up. Now that I'm up to date you guys will have to start PRODUCING two episodes a day so I can get my daily fix! Hehe. Keep up the great adventures.
So amazing to see you wonderful folks sailing in my backyard. We sail out of Vancouver and you have pretty much covered all of our favorite spots, from Desolation Sound to the Gulf Island, and even a little tooling around English Bay. Sorry about the idiots we have, every now and again, around here...boaters ignoring all the rules (too often they don't know them), mooring by people who don't know how (resulting in two knocks on Ran), and other mishaps you faced. The Arbutus are truly and amazing feature of our coast. It is Canada's only native broad-leafed evergreen tree, and usually resides not farther than 8 km from the pounding waves of the Pacific ocean. For sailors around here, they say "home," particularly on the Gulf Island. Pleasant winds and sailing!
I find it quite entertaining jumping between the videos and google maps to get a better idea where you guys are actually located. Another wonderful video. ; )>
That's a good way to do it! You can also look at our spot tracker map: spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=11e5d58274181cae70&showInfo=yes&showHome=yes&hoursPast=0&fillFactor=40&zoomLevel=10&showAll=yes
another spectacular video showcasing this beautiful area I call home. the drone shots are incredible. I always look forward to Fridays where I can go travelling with you for 20 minutes.
Great video, Love your adventures, watching since you left Sweden, years ago. Had to laugh, and rewind when you stuck out your tongue while catching the drone, too funny. Thank you for sharing your fun and low key style!
All these years sailing here and you guys have the best drone shots! The places I always go to, I have never seen drone shots of them! I sure wish someone would just go to all the great spots and do a slow video over them! Prevost is my second most favourite spot! Now your going where I've never been. And Happy Birthday Malin!
You said it a couple of times now, to buy an island... ...that’s just insane, who can buy an island these days.... I loved these episodes. Thank you so much for sharing. I really enjoy your episodes.
Such a well done piece! Everything really came together at the end, love the way you pulled that off! I enjoyed all the hard work you put into this so much and am really looking forward to your next exciting adventure!
Tak - I enjoyed this while having my morning coffee, today. You both have a nice vibe and your skillful videography of this beautiful scenery is captivating. (Also, nice job catching the drone while the boat is underway.) Happy birthday.
The Vancouver area is beautiful. Looks like you had good sailing as well. Being a small boat sailor who stays mostly on lakes and small bays, tacking is what I do pretty much all the time. Seems odd there would be such large winches so far forward that would obviously foul headsail sheets. I guess your boat is designed more for passage-making where you set a point of sail and stay there for hours or days at a time? Love your videos.
Another great video thank you. I’d noticed those halyard winches before and thought how great they looked. Today’s episode I saw Malian resting her hand on them for a piece to camera, then while you were short tacking I too saw the Genoa sheets foul them on both tacks! We all know if there is anything, anything, on the foredeck jib sheets will wrap them nicely.... Nice run forward to free them, we’ve all been there!
Excellent video. I spend my summers on my 40' sailboat there in the Gulf and San Juan islands. You really capture the beauty of the area. Thank you! :)

Thanks for following us along Bob! It means the world to us if we can give inspiration and bring back memories. Take care!
Love this 💙

Absolutely, we couldn't agree more. Simply great work. Dave & Linda M/S Olivebank S/V Banyanda
I think the Swiss do everything well.
@@rondejoux8006 Ron, careful - some would say the Swedish do it better. :-)
Thank you so much for your kind feedback! :)

My 21 minutes of vacation every Friday !
If I could be a stowaway on any yacht it would be yours, no competition.

I never expect a power boat to observe right of way rules. In that, sadly,I have never been disappointed.
Apparently, while it may be nerve wracking, according to the experts, you are supposed to hold your ground, even if it is a giant oil tanker in the Bay of Biscay. What are other options - a loud horn, supposing you can't contact them via radio?
comsunjava sometimes sailing boats are required to give way to power boats. It is all in Coll Regs and good seamanship.

The footage to 2:30 is amazing!
Happy birthday Malin! Thanks guys for the beautiful adventure
Thank you! :)

Thank you for watching! Let's hope we can keep the beauty of our planet also for future generations.

At 1:56 +/- into the vlog and there is not more beautiful imagery than a sailboat under sail from this vantage point. !!

Nice to see you enjoyed my sailing grounds. I have a 27' liveaboard and I sailed with my brother on his 34' beneteau.
You have great cruising grounds!

It was actually built to be a cruiser/racer but it was us that probably hadn't done all the right adjustments to tack :)
Another great video thank you. I’d noticed those halyard winches before and thought how great they looked. I’m pretty sure the swan at 8:55 was saying sorry.
Just fantastic! Everything just wow! Thank you
Wonderful as ever! Happy belated birthday, Malin!
Great editing work! Love the isolation sailing videos, so peaceful....Cheers form Brazil
Your video of Alaska and BC are great. The drone shots are over the top gorgeous.
Glad you like them! It has been a great experiencing all the beauty of this coast!
Excellent video. I spend my summers on my 40' sailboat there in the Gulf and San Juan islands. You really capture the beauty of the area. Thank you! :)
Like the Mustangs gear, and Happy Birthday.
