I think to arrive at egalitarianism to be the conclusion of this talk would be a mistaken inference. Divisions do exist in the society and the society rather recognized it instead of an abstract 'equality'. The modern society decides hierarchy of importance based on wealth and power. More wealth, more power, more important he is. The old system intended a spiritual division , albeit, based on birth. Now with the progress of Kali, it is intelligent to have the same spiritual division, but not just based on birth, but based on one's purity of consciousness and devotion to God.
Chathurvarna is not about caste by birth! Varnashra Dharma was based one's intelligence, behavior, education, ability and so on, and not on birth. In other words upward or downward mobility is possible in that system. Somewhere along the way we lost that, corruption took place and we have 4000 plus castes which do not have the sanctions of the scriptures! Who will correct this malady?
@@jaisacinandanakrsnadasa1597 It was not spiritual division, but social division. It comes under Hindu social philosophy. Hindu religion (Vedic variety or Sanatana dharma) did not confine itself to purely spirituality. Using spirituality, it controlled social lives of Hindu as their minds were controlled by their religion. This was when Gita was written. We should leave the Gita to its time. The problem even now is in talking about the Varanshram of the Gita as if it is written yesterday. All that we say about there is mobility in caste hierarchy i.e. a scavenger's son can become an engineer etc. came from the western values we borrowed and adopted when we accepted democracy. It has nothing to do with the Gita.

@@Thulasisinusandnose Whether it is dharma to create divisions by birth is the moot question to face boldly. The dharma is religion-based. On the contrary, the caste system is society-based. Society is in love with castes for a variety of reasons : political, economical and social. Castes can disappear for want of patronage only when the reasons become redundant. At present, such a situation does not prevail. It is not going to happen either because the reasons are active and desired - even more active and desired than in the past. People don't bother which lower castes suffer from the ill effects of caste system. It is a universal trait in humans to neglect the under-privileged, down-trodden and the crushed, as reported in the Journal of Psychology UK and reported in many papers last month. If you desire, I can link it here. We're not alone to neglect such people who are victims of our caste system. We bother only about ourselves and the people in our hierarchy. So it is difficult to cast off castes. But the religious dharma can be rejected. Hinduism has done it by rejecting many dharmas which were not sync with our times. We don't follow the same religion as it existed in the ancient times in Gangetic valley. That's why we call Hinduism a reformist religion i.e. it reviews itself from time to time and chop of dead wood to rejuvenate. It is the unique nature of the religion, not found in other religions. We're not rigid, but relaxed. We don't say our dharams are immutable and inexorable - for all times. We say they're malleable. Similarly, this dharma can go now. It is a festering open wound to the religion and also a social stigma. A dalit carries the stigma from birth to death and, as I said above, we don't want to know how he suffers. If the sigma is removed by casting off the dharma, the religion will become healthier to face the new centuries.
