      @@GregBlanchardFishing You got a learn to not stop your bait when the fish miss it or a fish hit your bait and misses it don’t stop you have to keep aggressively working that, it’s not like a large mouthWhere were they miss the top water you can slow it down. You have to keep that presentation moving at all times because if you stop it for any reason they’re just gonna turn away from it

      @@mrdiamanti9157 I hear it's nice and warm north of Auckland. I've fished around Taupo, Rotarua, and around Christchurch. Never got down to the fjords or fished saltwater there. So many missed opportunities. How's the economy holding up without tourism?

    • @mrdiamanti9157
      @mrdiamanti9157 3 года назад

      Oh nice is that all trout fishing? The north is great salt water fishing onshore and off as it has 100s of beaches and hidden rocky shore lines that have deep drop offs. The economy has taken a very large hit. Id say that a majority of hospitality businesses especially in small towns that rely on summers and tourists have take the biggest hit and a lot have had to shut down. It's pretty heart breaking. Unfortunately although Auckland has the majority of covid cases a lot of people have left there for smaller more remote towns away from that central hub, but with no tourists people are struggling and needing to go back to places like Auckland. Even this summer having opened back up to the rest of nz it is very very quiet.

      @@mrdiamanti9157 yes. All trout fishing. My biggest brown trout was over 4 kilos out of Tongariro river. Great fishery. Lost touch with a kiwi friend I met fishing there. He was older so I assume he passed away or moved to a home. My last letter was not returned but not answered either. Loved New Zealand. Been there three times so far

    Hey Gregg. Another great video. I fish strippers alot here in NC. I really like watching you catching fish. Still yet my friend I have mentioned this before when you were catching striper and losing alot of fish. Gregg you can't give them a tenth of a second without pressure on the fish. I've found that they can shake lose alot easier than a Largemouth. That's one reason why I will crank my drag down really tight or if I'm using below 20lb test I'll set it to where I can pull line off the reel at the face of the reel and then during a strike and while fighting the fish I use the old trusted thumb for the drag. When a striper hits is no time to fiddle with the drag. I have taken alot of friends out to catch striper and told them to just drag the fish in with no pause. Just keep reeling and have seen them time after time lose big stipers because they would be trying to pump a fish in or stop reeling for whatever reason and lose fish of a life time for them.
    I've never used a glide bait on our strippers here but I think I'll give it a try hear. I think that when you were getting all of those followers on the big glide bait I would have grabbed that jerkbait way before the chatter bait. The jerkbait looked like what they wanted in the shape only smaller. Been my experience in life anytime I get fish following or short striking my bait I need to go smaller or change color. Just a thought.
    Hey Greg I have always enjoyed your videos and always look forward to the next one. Please don't think I am trying to tell you how to fish. Thats not what I am trying to do. Just sharing what I have went through over many years catching those line sided monsters.

      Agreed with you on this one. I striper fish in MA/NH and if you let off for a second you can lose the fish,and when they run you have to let them run.

    What a fun day, your in a great area ....the ditch can produce being about 10' its mainly a travel hwy. On Savage glide do change those hooks & split rings go slow is best (they are on the light side) js they work great. Try their 'Roach' looks like the native shad also scaling down right now on size may help ... the thread fin shad are about 1.5" right now & growing, of course more fish have moved in as we speak & the water has been muddy but now is fine thx for the great video love the glides to

    Little tip for you- JJ's builds pressure inside the container when it gets even a little warm- and then if you shake it or even open it really quickly-- it can get messy. Best to leave the lid cracked just a tad and when you open it, do so slowly. JJ's works but it's some nasty stuff if you get it on anything other than the bait- it's there to stay and that garlic smell isn't going away anytime soon either. Funny- I fish with some ppl who nearly puke when I open it up- and then others are like "Man that smells delicious, I'm hungry now." It tends to make me hungry- I like Italian food.

    Greg in my experience of striper fishing at the ca aqueduct when you see followers, that is a huge sign that you are doing something right. Try to change the profile color or your retrieve style to trigger a last minute decision for the striper. They usually like to bite near the shore or in your case near the kayak and thats not always the case just giving you some ideas next time you striper fish
