Many don't know the process he went through composing this piece. It was his "new" challenge at the time. He was interviewed by NHK and they filmed him during his journey in writing this piece of music. He voiced his pain in how this was unlike any challenge he had ever faced, and that playing music and writing it are completely different things. He had days of weeping and frustration, and he even questioned his qualifications as a musician. While some may comment how simple the structure of this piece is, it is subtle and subdued. Grandeur isn't always the answer to true art, and simplicity is often the language of the heart.

I understand that writing this piece for him was a difficult journey, just like the journey for the victims of the tsunami in Japan. You can here their journey in the music. It begins in a minor key and is very sorrowful, but it transitions into a major key, with the courageous promise of hope. The piece tells of a tragedy that brought out strength and character through struggle. The purpose of music is to invoke a feeling. Nobuyuki most certainly accomplished that with the composing of this beautiful piece of music. It has become one of my favorite pieces of all time.

I am in tears now and hoping that we can all put our petty differences asside and realize that at the end of the day we are all here together! Some of you just don't get it. Even though it isn't incredibly difficult composition it doesn't mean this piece was ordinary. This piano player can play anything you put in front of him but he created this piece in memory of a tragedy and not to awe an audience with a technical master piece. He put so much emotion into it and this was his motive. The timing, emotion, and feel are truly genius but these small yet significant facets of great piano playing are lost on those who simply would rather criticize what they do not understand.

At least 16,000 people died in the March 2011 tsunami that hit Japan, and it is for these lost souls that Nobuyuki Tsujii weeps. His composition is a simple, heartfelt memorial to this great tragedy. Mr. Tsujii is a prolific composer and first rate pianist; he embodies great love, sincerity, warmth and in my personal estimation was put here on earth to remind the rest of us of what it is to be human. @@judyreardon2344 This man is a fine pianist, and the fact that he is blind makes his talent all the more praiseworthy. However, what I find rather sickening , Judy, is the emotional hyperbole of so many comments. Talking about 'pain pouring out of his fingers', for instance, and another comment comparing this music with that of Chopin, are the signs of wallowing in emotion for emotion's sake. The tsunami was violent and killed many, and left multitudes without loved ones. But to compose a deliberately mushy piece of music, and read the comments of people who try to deliberately immerse themselves in manufactured pathos, are extremely distasteful. It's rather like the idiots who sang 'don't look back in anger' after the Manchester atrocity, when anger accompanied by retribution would have been the proper response. And let's face it, Judy, the music is pretty average when listened to as a piece of music without the added layer of crocodile tears.

People think if someone can play "Flight of the Bumblebee", or if the performer moves their hands fast, that equals a great performance. In my opinion, this the the most ignorant, and uncultured assertion there is to be made about a pianist. I think that true culture and raw talent, comes from knowledge of the piece, execution and dynamics of the piece, and overall emotion the composer and/or performer bring to the piece. "Flight of the Bumblebee" causes awe in the brain. This causes awe in the heart.

Don' t insult great composers like Rachmaninov because your source for listenong to music is bad.
Also, to put it simply, a good pianist should have ALL.

led zeppelin To put it simply.
A Pianist does not have any technical flaw.
      (Students or Criticians aren't Pianists).
      A Pianist has a soul.
(He will feel what he is playing).
A Pianist has personal micro- or macro-tastes.
(He will still be capable of playing brillantly what he doesn't like at all).
A Pianist doesn' t give a fuck about money.
      (Corruption leads to musical death).

I was just scrolling through the comments before watching this. And right when it began and the like, climax of the song came, I saw a comment that said, I have 20/20 vision and he sees better than I do. Then I read it over and over again, only to realize that one of the most emotional pianists...... is blind.
I am now finding myself crying, and praying that one day I will meet him. He is now a huge inspiration of mine. I wanna write a book about someone like him because I am planning to become an author. He is truly amazing.

what is music? a race to proof who is the fastest player? to proof who is the best? to show people how great you are? to be able play everything perfectly just like the original song? nah man, music is emotion, a language, it's speak to your soul. When u want people to understand something there are a person who uses many words and make things complicated for people to understand and the other person uses simple words but hit right

A young talented musician who happens to be born blind but God has given him a special kind of talent to deliver such beautiful music to entertain us with such an emotional attachment because it is entirely based on his touch of the key from the grand piano. It goes to show that we are capable of doing anything in life without any doubt.
