This is a great western! Beautiful b+w photography. Intelligent dialogue. Perfect supporting cast. Great backgrounds. Nothing wasted. Joel McCrea never better, always underplaying. As good as in Peckinpah's Ride the High Country. Virginia Mayo never hotter, both in looks and performance. This is a classic Western Noir. Gangsters on horseback! Too bad the narrator robot couldn't get it together to pronounce the star's name correctly. It's McCrea-as in M'Cray! Not that difficult. Where's your mechanical proofreader/copy reader when you need it?!
I am a hige fan of his portrayal of Wyatt Earp in the western "Wichita" . I love his everyman personality thrust into leadership by circumstances . The death of Michael Jackson .
Not the greatest, but very good. He tended to underestimate his talent. See him in Preston Sturges' Sullivan's Travels. Not a western, but a satire about Hollywood.
I'm gonna look for this. Never heard of it and I'm an old man who watches old movies.
Me to. 🤔
Criterion bundled it with its release of High Sierra a few years back. They're both worth seeking out.
I saw it, love it. I couldn't stop watching Virginia Mayo,,,,🥹

Banned in just one single country, known to be quick about banning movies during that period, is not really a story in my humble opinion.
Watched not long ago..Good flick..
Where can you stream it now.I have been looking.Sometimes it is on TCM.
Joel McCrea is the biggest Hollywood star and the best actor in the history of USA.
Sheer fantasy.🙄

It's pronounced muh-cray, not mu-cray-uh.
