The most memorable game I ever played on the Amiga - brilliantly conceived on every level. All the more remarkable that it was the work of just one person!
@@inversephaseInteresting! Curious that they don't get a mention elsewhere (even the Wikipedia article on the game only mentions one additional coder and a musician).
I've seen previous playthroughs of this game before but this is one of those games I never get sick of watching. The concept is truly terrifying, especially when you read the dialog of characters like Isao Nishimi, who describes the computer security system not working properly, and bio-organisms being invisible.
Thank you for the video. I used to find out what is the exact name of this game for >20 years. I first played this game while I'm learning MS-DOS 4.22, Win3.0 & OS/2, at a community center nearby. The days were VGA/SVGA video cards are still uncommon. I was playing DGEN with CGA card with "black/white" monochrome monitor. I always remembered that the game dir is C:\DGEN. Finally, someone like you did a gameplay recordings & let us know how's the story ending of DGEN.
this game may have inspired Alien Hunter, another Amiga game. It takes elements like the bouncing laser and room-by-room basis where you secure rooms by covering the vent shafts. The isometric view is impressive once you get used to the controls, and it has a good story as you go along, getting bits of information from NPCs and computers. It also has some dark humour, "Building peace through better weapons."😉 I got it when I was about twelve, but didn't finish it until some years later. There is more than one exit to each floor, so it isn't exactly linear and a guide may not always help
The passwords can be diffeent in this game such as at 37:30. I had no idea what it was so I looked up this video but "war" or anything similar like "War" didn't work for me. In my version, the man says "I am the bringer of death" so I used "death" as the password and it worked! A brilliant game and one that proves simplicity beats having 12+ buttons on your controller.
Maybe this game is fun but I remember when I saw this game for the first time on the CD32 around 1993/94 and thought to myself, this is the worst looking game I have seen.
AGA ? its hard to believe this game coded for AGA. its very bad graphic capability and seeming there is no AGA specific effects. Amiga was the magic machine & have ultimate graphic capability games & demos than this worst work, even in ECS / OCS chipset !

And looking at it it now it still looks amazing
there appear to be 7 people in the credits....
@@inversephaseWhich credits, where? The only credit I can see in this video is "A game by Robert Cook".
@@TPToE click "more" on the video description. there are also credits for ST and DOS/win on mobygames.

A real masterpiece.
I consider this one of the best games ever made.
It certainly was one of my top 5 on the system.
I have very fond memories of playing this at DOS.

Doing the work of the Gods my friend. This takes me back.
It really is a phenomenal game that I only discovered existed a moment ago! He was way ahead of his time in almost everything!
What a throwback. One of the first games I ever played as a little kid, didnt really know what was going on but it creeped me out.
Storyline: A external courier guy saved a company & rescued all the employees from biohazard disaster.

Even now, it's great.

I used to read Derrida's name as Diarrhoea as a kid hahaha
This game made me switch from console to Amgia

This could have been the inspiration for Umbrella corporation and resident evil. :)
I atill have this game...not played it for a long time.
7:19 looks like the guy who was rescued puts his tongue out.
Fantastic game...Amiga is King.
Love this game
Great work 👍
11:39 is an image of Werner Heisenberg
Instant Alzheimer's.... whoa.. that's terrifying
Cool 😃
So this is not about the philosopher?
Looks like c64 not AGA.

The AGA version has a revised colour palette and additional sound effects. I think the intro cutscene is longer too.
