I've been thinking about removing my tire for a while now on my 71, but I think it would look goofy with the tub removed so that will stay installed. wow...I never thought it was 52 lbs! I'm definitely going at risk and removing my spare now. I can't remember the last time I had a flat and needed a spare tire anyway.
I think it looks cleaner without the tub, but it really is a matter of opinion. Also, without the weight of the tire on it, you may hear some rattling noises. A portable compressor may be a good idea. amzn.to/3RFvMAo Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻
I think the car looks naked from the rear without the tub. Not to mention it can look quite poor if the rear crossmember and leaf spring isn't pretty. The bare fiberglass cleans up well with Purple Power and lacquer thinner. The strap can be painted without removal by taking a few minutes to carefully mask off the tub. I used thick foam backer rod as cushions for the carrier bolts. No rattles.
My spare tire tub cleaned up nicely when I detailed it after I got the car, and yes, the area looks different without it. Having said that, my car is slightly lowered so it’s hardly noticeable and it looks a lot cleaner, IMO. So the big and heavy tub-along with its associated hardware-now rests in the attic. 😊👍🏻
I just bought a 73 corvette. Your video was helpful. I chose to keep the spare, but I installed it in reverse of the way yours came out so I could easily check the air pressure. Does it matter which way the tire goes in?
Congratulations on your '73, Steve! I don't think the position of the spare matters, as long as it fits properly. So, I think it will be fine. And as you know, the tub and hanger bolt, plus gravity, help keep it securely in place. I just visited a C3 Corvette owner down in Orlando. He has THREE of them! And he's always looking for the next one. Super nice feller and I will post a video of his Corvettes one of these days, so stay tuned. I think you will enjoy it. I'll also post a couple of photos to the community tab. Anyway, congrats again on the Vette! All the best, -Luis www.76vette.com
Love the Rhino ramps. amzn.to/3COLZ0I If you’re talking about the mats under the wheels those are cheap Home Depot door mats. They were a buck a piece a few years ago. 😊👍🏻
One more question on the ramps when you are backing up on them do they tend to slide ? I have race ramps and when I back up on them there are always getting pulled towards the front.
Really, I took the ugly A$$ spare tire carrier off my vette... they are hideously ugly and do you really need it?? In the modern age of cellular phones your probably just going to call a service truck and have it fixed anyway....
I got rid of the spare tire and the carrier, and put together an emergency flat tire repair kit and I have a small 12-volt compressor. And if all fails, I have a cell phone like you said and a credit card. 😊👍🏻
I painted mine black and it made a huge difference
Great video and no silly background music. Just nice smooth jazz. 👍
Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻

What size is your tire? Dimensions? Please. Thanks
They are 225/70R15 Cooper Cobras. Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻
And the spare tire is a 225/60R15. 😊👍🏻
Thank you
How do you like the ramps? And what is the matte you have in front of them. Thanks

@@76vette great thank you! Are you on instagram?
@@nicpete17 You’re welcome. No more Instagram for me. I deleted that account. 😊👍🏻

@@nicpete17 I haven’t had any issues with mine. I just get the tires to slowly grab on to them and then slowly roll the car up.

I want to take my spare tire holder off.
It’ll look a lot cleaner and get rid of about 60 lbs of dead weight. 😊👍🏻
@@76vette the spare tire been out. It has a locking rod on mine. Use the door key to unlock it to drop down
