- Today I'm taking a detailed look at the New Balance M990GRY, the very first release of the 99X series, starting it all in an OG colorway in 1982. This was the first New Balance running shoe to exceed the $100 price range. Being the most iconic sneakers in the 99X series I just had to add them to my collection in order to close the gap. I need these. These are a must in the collection for sure. Colorway screams new balance. Materials look amazing!

I have already bought the 990v2 and the 991 both in grey, but I think I won't be able to resist buying this one!
They're very comfy and beyond that a true classic. Definitely not a bad choice 🙂
Some of nb, s today are expensive but they're just so well made and stunning trainers. Shape, sole etc - I like these. They're yet another example of new balance showing everyone how's it done. Yeah my first new balance was the 574. Good bit of nostalgia about hi-tec. As always enjoyed watching. 👍 👌

It's funny of all the various technology and concepts that go into sneaker soles this sole is by far the most comfortable, just like the Saucony jazz.
And also the longest lasting one. I was surprised myself how comfortable this model is, even by today's standards. GREAT sneaker!
I just picked up a pair of these for super cheap resell (and deadstock, too). The simplicity of the model will make these an everyday shoe for me! I know I can always come to your channel for great NB reviews. 👍

Great vid, great channel, earned my 👍 + sub. You are 1🎯🎯% right about the nostalgia factor. These released the year I was born, so I have literally wanted these my whole life, and as a child - of course not 💸💸💸 But as an adult, I recently scored a pair of 30th anniversary 990 GRY. Then, at about the same time, the 990v1 40th anniversary dropped. I doubled up & feel like a king now 👑 Long live the NB 990
It's just impossible to emphasize enough the quality of materials & build until you have them in-hand. The soft suede, the OG mesh, the understated yet iconic l👀k with it's clean lines. They just *feel* better than other shoes. They vibe up
You pretty much summed that all up very precisly! To me it makes a big difference to take a shoe out of its box and already feel that it is something special. Wow...the first version of the grey 990, very understated. You were right about the popularity of Reeboks and Hi-Tecs in the UK during the early 90's. They recently relaunched the Reebok Classic and Club C. Great content, just subscribed. Keep it up!

Simple, plain colour (grey) , mesh surrounded by suede .. my favourite. 1,990v1 , 2,M1300cl, 3,M1400sb
All of those are great! Grey has the big plus to match anything. And nobody does so many great grey nuances like New Balance :)

Totally agree, they're really nice in person. And what you said that they're NBs AM1 is probably true. Never looked at it that way. 996 is also highly underrated, at least the MiUSA pairs

No, it's pretty much the same thing, just colors are slightly different. Personally I like the OG more. I don't care for the red tab and I like the OG color better

No, these were released a while ago, they are available on the US NB website, weren't available in Europe. They will release again though and have already I believe

It fits more or less like a 998, yes 996 is more narrow
is there a 990 classic in brown color?
A beige one yes. Not sure if there is a brown one though
Comparing with current 990v5, is this narrower or wider and shorter or longer? Should I stick with same size as 990v5 or not? Kindly please advise. Thank you in advance!!
I'd go tts in the 990 OG as well, they have very thick insoles that require to go tts. I replaced mine with thinner ones so they fit a little bigger as there is no half size in my size. The 990 OG is comfortable, not narrow. The v5 may appear wider but I think only the midsole has a wider stance, the room is pretty close. But bear in mind that it's tech from completely different eras. The v5 has a better foot bed and cushioning system. But the OG is by no means uncomfortably, it is a different wearing sensation

How do these fit compared to nike or adidas sneakers? I'm a 12 in both of those brands, would you recommend sizing down to an 11.5 in these? I've had the M996 Bringback in size 11.5 before and those fit perfect. Appreciate your help!
I also have a 996 and they fit very similar, so you should be good with the 11.5
