Any car that can go a decent speed with stability and enough gas can easily outrun a helicopter, helicopters arent very fast
Unless you can out run the helicopter.

they hit him with the first set but the officer couldn’t do the second because of the car right next so when he pulled the sticks out he couldn’t go all the way to the median like the dude running away did
yeah ! those strips are a rather out of date device ! They do provide some good entertainment when no police get injured !

the back and forth between the air shots and ground shots was amazing -- i don't think i've seen that before. some of it was repeated, but still, wow!
Well at least the guy was being factual about going to jail regardless. That's probably the most honesty you'll get from any suspect.
Obviously he was either on his way to commit a crime, or fleeing the scene of a crime, and he swapped his plates before hand in case they got picked up by a surveillance camera or called in by a witness
There are a million equally plausible explanations. It's entirely possible his registration was expired and didn't want to pay for a new one, or he wanted to run the license plate scanning toll booths without paying. Trust me, people run for the dumbest reasons.
But you're right it's not a bad idea to investigate it as something more until proven otherwise.

If the plates already reported stolen then the car is probably stolen and he got the plates of another car to match it the make and color of the car. The regular citizen was probably driving and got pulled out at gun point and thats when they realise plates are stolen. Or some folks like the boring story of the owner knew their plate number

The cop cars here in Australia have these cameras on them that read hundreds of license plates a second and know if your unregistered unlicensed have a record a warrant if it’s stolen etc etc etc

Next time maybe you should just call him and ask him to run over the spikes. May have a better chance of getting him to run then over.

yeah, i don't know what they were thinking. all you gotta do is swerve to the left or right and you're past the spikes, it's so easy to get by. they should park their car on one lane, turn on sirens, then drag a strip (that's twice as long) across and into the grass, so if you want to avoid it, you have to swerve super hard. that'll force the driver to drive through the strip, swerve and lose control, or flip.
.m. I can only envision mad crashes that aren’t worth it honestly my guy...

Can I just say that Live PD is a relieve to all those other police chase programs? No annoying music, no annoying commentator that tells us what we can see. Just the cop, just the images. Nothing more. I enjoy this show more than all others combined.
When you can clearly see the trooper and his car coming up, um, yeah it's not too difficult to evade a spike strip...
It’s protocol to do it
This is a good reason to have a gun ready at home and the doors locked, even in a nice neighborhood where nothing ever happens. This guy was just a knucklehead, but if he were more desperate and dangerous and ran into one of those homes, the residents would have a situation on their hands, even with the cops nearby.

True! I had this happen once. No crime around where I lived. But a guy the cops were chasing bailed out of his car near our property. He came running out of our woodland and headed for our house. I was home alone just doing some gardening. Fortunately, my dogs stopped the guy at our gate and held him there until I could notify the police.

Probably had something to do with the amount of traffic on the road, they can’t put other civilians in danger to make a collar. Some roads it’s harder for people to pull over and if they’re going a certain speed it’s more difficult.
No chase laws. It wasn't a felony pursuit. They already had his tag and description and a helicopter, no need to put innocent drivers at risk.
Clearly, his possesion of stolen property, felony eluding, reckless driving and complete inability to accept any responsibility for his actions makes him highly desirable to potential employers...
