Very useful advice. Thank you for sharing your techniques and advice. I bought the same supplies and used the same techniques to create custom plushie animal eyes on buttons. They turned out amazing and have a durable finish. The colors are very rich, especially when given spray varnish.

I use Kooh-i-Noot Polycolor Mundulez for my repaints. Got 72Pencils for just 30€ on amazon. They're very high pigmentet! I love the collors ❤️ And I use the same acrylic paint like the one in the video😂

I've always used acrylics but really wanted to try watercolor pencils. I've found some low range ones I had lying around and they don't paint at all on the sealant! Do you think getting higher range pencils makes such a big different or could the sealant be the issue? Thnks!
Your videos are always super helpful! I have another question though. Can you also use regular pastels after crushing them to a powder? Or does it have to be soft pastels? Do you know what would happen if I used regular ones?
Flávia Leal Not really replaceable,for quality and what it does.so order from over sea cos trust me it’s worth it,you’re work at the end will look much better,and pastels,pencils,slide and attach grate to it.With other materials you just gonna torture you’re self,finish with dirty looking doll and think all this is not for you..Trust me.Mr.Superclear is used by doll makers for a reason 😉 They would use other things if that wouldn’t be the best for it 😉
@@giannadelucci2239 it's designed for small miniatures for a game called Warhammer so as you can imagine, it's made to lay thin and uniform even over a small surface so it works great for a monster high size doll.
Can you suggest something besides Mr. Super Clear? I bought something that I hoped was similar to Testor's Dullcote at the hardware store (I live in the US) and since I have never painted dolls I can't tell if it's what it should be. It doesn't seem to create "teeth" but I'm not sure I know how that would feel
Gotta say, Mr Super Clear is not in any way easy to find locally. I live in Houston, Texas, USA; which is a big city. Tried hobby stores, hardware stores, art supply stores, and all the local big box stores with no luck. Happily, there's Amazon. It's just that the waiting is hard. I have some old Prismacolor water color pencils in nearly pristine condition and the old pastels will do till I know if this hobby is for me. But gosh darn by golly, I wish I didn't have to wait for the Mr Super Clear so I could get started.
Several others have asked that same question and it appears that the others tend to yellow over time and/or remain tacky and stick to the hair. I’ve also read that the cheaper ones make your doll look dirty...
I have a technical question. I’m embarking on a new hobby. After I remove the original paint and apply the multiple layers of Mr Super Clear, I will begin the layering process. If I decide to start over after a few layers, do I use the same process to remove the layers of Mr. Super Clear and paint lares I applied like I removed the original manufacturer’s pain. love you site. Interesting to note, that it says : 'Mr. SUPER CLEAR UV CUT series is special clear coating that reduces the effects of ultraviolet light. Use this coating to preserve your long hours of painting. (This product is made especially for the Mr. Color series and cannot be used over water-based paints and decals.)' Watercolor pencils are water based pigments, although i doubt there is water in them, just water soluble. I have never used anything except acrylics to paint my OOAK dolls. I thinks this would be more fun, except the spaying outside. I would think you could use the clear uv cut as the final top coats, and use the other as the base coats?

Music Planet I don’t know about the sealant but artist loft is usually not pigmented. You’ll have to drop some money on this hobby and I wouldn’t recommend artist loft.
I can not obtain MSC in Norway and noone is shipping it here. What can i use instead? I am open to use acrylic paint or anything else if nothing else can be used instead with pencils :) love your videos
yeah, I've heard about this problem from other doll artists from Norway... Unfortunatelly I cannot give any useful tips because I always work just with MSC. I know that Andreja from Nicolle's Dreams channel uses some other product + an airbrush

it should just make it semi glossy, which usually isn't a good look on face ups, if you want shines on specific parts then liquitex gloss varnish or mr super gloss clear would be good!

Mr super clear is amazing. I tried using regular sealant on my first doll repaint and it was shiny she got sticky and her hair kept sticking to the sealant. Very gross. But! I redid her with Mr Super clear and she looks Much Better now! (But getting it in the mail does count as a hazardous material... So the post office will look at you all suspicious lol)

thank you! no, I haven't seen such a tutorial on dolls but you can check usual drawing/paiting tutorials on youtube, real professional artists will give you more theory information than adaptation for dolls

Dude soft pastels are just the same as chalk, where do you live that you don't have chalk? And if you can't even get acrylic paint I don't believe you can get any materials at all.

Nail polish yellows over time, it isn't meant for long term use.

I use vallejo matt spray varnish and haven't had any problem. You can buy it in the Warhammer shops.

From what I know it doesn't matter, majority of dolls are made from the same material

I always use only the UV Cut one, simple matt Mr. Super Clear gives cracks already in a week, I've tried it once, never again))))

From the different videos I've seen online, they seal the watercolour in so it doesn't rub/ wash off. I think they do that after every layer

lately I use simple white tacky glue because it doesn't leave any stains when its dried

thank you! no, I haven't seen such a tutorial on dolls but you can check usual drawing/paiting tutorials on youtube, real professional artists will give you more theory information than adaptation for dolls

Can i use something else for repainting the dolls face??I didn't find soft pastels and watercolors and i can't buy them online.Any alternatives??(No acrylic colors)
Dude soft pastels are just the same as chalk, where do you live that you don't have chalk? And if you can't even get acrylic paint I don't believe you can get any materials at all.
