J. Dilla - Waves (Sample Breakdown) - Donuts Album

New Content
This is a new form of The Chop (which will be having it's series finale soon).
I have been working on a more digestible version of The Chop for a while now. I wanted my content to be enjoyed by people other than fellow producers
People on discord mentioned to me that it is similar to Tracklib, which I didn't know what it was until I saw a video of their breakdown of "One More Time" on twitter, after Daft Punk split. At that time I had 3 videos similar to this almost done... So I did NOT copy Tracklib, but I would be lying if I didn't mention that I found their content to be incredibly polished, and it definitely inspired me to polish my content more!
Regardless, if you're mad... idk Tracklib... sue me :)

Fun fact: he flipped the sample to “Johnny do it” to push his little brother Illa J (John yancey) into pursuing his rap career 💪🏿
They are actually saying Johnny blew it 😭
It's literally saying "Johnny do it" dawg what are you on?
@@noaharkadedelgadowell his brothers music is actually kinda dope; especially since he started doing R&B, so I disagree
Myth.
It’s not that deep. Pretty sure dilla would just call his brother and encourage him to do music instead of telling him through a chopped sample.
Absolute masterclass. The subtle detail inherited in the pitches, timings, and tones continue to amaze me after years of listening. Wow.
There's a reason this beast was the first breakdown!
this is the reason why j dilla will forever be the best
More Dilla and Nujabes coming soon :)
Same Dilla face sticker on my back windshield rollin' around Detroit showing respect like I'm spose to. Dilla will always be our Hometown Hero! Rest In Beats
That was fantastically put together, well done dude
Thanks man, editing is no my thing, so that literally took all the skill I have :)
Best flip of all time in my opinion
It might as well be, considering what he did with the Flip
The Sample goes "Johnny don't do it", but Dilla flipped it to "Please Johnny Do it", Johnny being his brother.
Dilla was inspiring and motivating his brother to pursue music and use his beats on the Illa J project. Amazing parting gift between brothers.
Illa J's project is really good, considering that doing justice to Dilla's beats is a monumental task, I think he did a pretty solid job with the beats. And I do have many of those songs in my playlist.
Utterly insane. Dilla was just DIFFERENT
my goat
@@Narokx mine too!!!!
this beat is SO FUCKING 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Crazy flip
Thank you! Loved this. Just bought a new mpc so I’m trying to step up my sampling game. Gotta learn from the greats.
Thats awesome, the MPC grit is something everyone tries to emulate on their DAWs, but it is futile, since the MPC sound processing is so unique!!
What an amazing artist, Such ear he had..
That #MPC bounce... Can't be duplicated PERIOD 😎🥃
Fo real! But nothing says we can't copy the groove and save it as midi so we can have that swing on our files 👀
@@Narokx you must use Reason 😎
@@squalley FL for 6 years and learning Ableton for a year now.
But why you mention reason tho? 👀
@@Narokx regroove
The ONLY producer that could best Kanye R.I.P. 😢😢😢
Amazing. This is one of my favorite Dilla tracks.
miracle
NO FUCKING WAAAAAAAY! THIS BLEW MY MIND 😦😦😦😦😦🤯🤯🤯🤯
Produced by god dilla
Just found your channel, can't get enough of it
:)
J Dilla is the only person who's able to make a siren sound soothing.
made that ish a classic sound
You should do stakes is High by de la soul
Uuuh that's a great idea, lowkey surprised I haven't worked on that yet!
Good shit on this channel keep it up 👍
y'all beat tracklib to it lol. This is hard🔥🔥
I didn't mean to copy them, but now that I am aware of them I am in surprised of how slow their output of videos is. I think I've done 3x as many breakdowns as they have since I started...
Maybe... they should hire me
I see what J Dilla just did... swapped it with "Johnny, Do it". Just caught that
thaank you
Amazing videos. You know how to do it well. Thanks.
very cool that you put the arrangement
Think I will do that more often then :)
Amazing job! Here for your growth.
thank you :)
🤯
ありがとう!
:)
Welcome back
Thank you so much!!
tyyy dude!!
:)
Like the tracklib format
More Dill please :)
Got another one ready and more in the works 🙌🏼
@@Narokx Thanks for all of your hard work. This series is epic.
@@jaxa5990 thank you it means a lot
🍩
You definitely need more subs. I see you doing God's work out there!
Hustling out here with faith that the payoff gonna come!
@@Narokx It sure will man, before you know it, you'll hit the big leagues.
Epic
no, you
And who is Johnny?? Illa J...
Namaste Haribol Asewe!!!
I wonder how he did that little fill later in the track
I like the old format how you redo the beats.. this is like something I know.. the old one is more original. This is just my opinion tho.. big ups!
There will be a few more on the other format, and more producing videos!!
Sadly I do intend to retire the old format because it is not worth the effort tho
@@Narokx changing times I guess.. but for me I really dig that. It’s really you. Your “signature” of content unlike anyone else.
Would you do videos like this for Uyama Hiroto and Nujabes?
I have a nujabes one in the work!
I can take a look at Uyama Hiroto 🙌🏼
@@Narokx Nice! I really like those producers too! Have you tried out Nujabes Another Reflection? There is a Sample Breakdown video somewhere on RUclips. I think it was made by Genius.
@@jaxa5990 that makes my job way easier! Appreciate that.
The nujabes joint I'm working on is Sea of Clouds!
@@Narokx Sweet! Thanks a bunch for your videos.
Damn he flipped a 3/4 song and turned it into a 4/4
Nice intro clip, who made it?
If you taking about the intro visual edits me, with some presets. If you talking about the audio that plays on the title it is from the beat Brazillian Groove from Dilla himself
What's the intro beat
Dilla - Brazilian Groove
J Dilla did it but johny was not supposed to
Wrong chops
