Kmart 1984, standing in line with my life giver, holding my color by numbers 12 inch LP in my hands, and then I hear the word that I will be hearing for the rest of my life. I don’t know it looks like a Fagge, group of white racist men were standing behind us in line, and they started calling me a Fagge , my mother looked at me and just put her head down and didn’t say a word. Good times.
I'm 27 years of age and I'm a big fan of him. I like how his brain works and how he speaks as well. You can tell that he is extremely intelligent and so quick-witted as well. I'm addicted to watching his interviews.
I was the same as most 80s kids, "oh, he's gay". My mom told me recently that he was not gay, he just dressed like he wanted to. She told me he wore a full length gown to the music awards. Why? Because he wanted to. I had always liked him, but after hearing that, my respect for him went way up. He did what he wanted and he didn't care what other people thought. I wish there were more people like him.
I adore him! I've grown up, listening to him and I liked his uniqueness, even though people would just say he acted and dressed like that because he was gay. I didn't see that. I seen a fantastic performer! As I aged, I actually thought he was good looking, but he looks absolutely fantastic these days!
😊he still had his Eltham Green School accent back then☺️😉❤ I was born in 1979 I remember going to the Eltham Hill Social club Disco & Karma Chameleon was a big hit in the charts I was only 4 but I remember it vividly because of the disco lights being red gold and green 😊😊😊
And this is way before he was in culture club 1979 and look what a accomplishment boy George has done everybody loves boy George he's one of my idols and let's remember a piece of cloth doesn't make a man
I often come across memories like this and it becomes apparent why I am the way I am. I am not a fighter...I don't know how to. Argue yes, but physical aggression to tear another down in order to "rule the sandbox",as Cher put it, goes against my being. I was so lucky and blessed to have been living in London when that was recorded. I remember the groups Boy George Mentions, the Mods and Punks...two opposing currents in Urban culture. Each had its pros and cons and each added to that oh so beautiful mix of Britishness. But when you see how Boy George emerged from. The Romantic Punk culture-a blending of sorts of the dominant youth cultures of the late 1970s and early 1980s, with a little sprinkle of the Gay outlook, an outlook of hope, of inclusion and belonging, and most of all Love. And he's so right. Fashion, what we choose to wear, how we look doesn't make us different, it's what's inside our heads-what we think, how we view and interact with the world that makes us unique. My criticism if that, I don't think it was a focus of his message, was that he didn't discuss fashion as art. Creative souls with a hefty budget can express their emotions, critiques, ideas, through clothes and accessories. I think I've re posted some outfits that struck me, but one that comes to mind was Lady Gaga's meat dress which expreased rather poignantly the attitude that many men have towards women, that they are' Fresh Meat. So in a sense Fashion does represent how we feel what we think, in this instance. It also defines our social identity, its a signal letting others know our "Tribe". Butvl get it...if one is lucky enough to have talented designers this can be done with simple tee-shirts and the messages orbaffiliations we choose to announce silently on our daily life. (I'll post some pictures of my shirt logos, which don't really get much reaction where I live now but that's ok... Since my childhood in the UK I've always liked to and tried to dress differently as a way of expressing my differences, my attitude toward judgments and "othering" different groups...and really right now I look like the typicalv everyday guy, except for my scarves, and pearls (And yet to be revealed red 6' heel Babydoll pumps, for special occassions). In my opinion compared to the rest of the human race, I don't look as different as many in my community have made judgment on much to my bewilderment. It's also a factor in my present predicament. Anyways, thank you Boy George for being a role model and hero to me and so many others. You helped shape culture which is still influencing new artist and your average spotty teen. And thank you for reminding me that fighting hurts everyone in the long run. That in my battle, walking away is probably the best option. He speaks words of volume and wisdom respect to him , George bis completey right about wat he's saying . people r ignorance some one who ones to be different means they ve confident to be themselves well done that's their personality .be Ur self and live Ur life to the full and he's proven everyone correctly ..
I agree it's not worth fighting over. People can wear whatever they want as long as it's not causing harm to others, but at the same time I do feel like it's wrong. As man and female we were put on this earth to embrace who we are not what we think or want to be. As men we are meant to be masculine and lead the world and protect the weak and one's we love at all cost physically where as woman are meant to be in the likes of day care and protect those spiritually. A man causlly dressing up as a girl isn't right. You're taking something apart of you and throwing it away. This is the real world. Not a fantasy land, ya know? But in the end, if you're not harming anyone then fuck it. Do as you wish. Just don't come bitching if we have a different opinion than yours. That's the problem. You all who dress up as the opposite sex and claim to be an opposite gender do your best in forcing your views down everyone's throat and cast out those that give the slightest opinion on their views like religion for example. If you have the right to make fun of our religion publicly we have the right to call you gay. If you can talk down on those with religion but we can't talk down on the lgbtq without getting canceled that makes you a hypocrite. That's the biggest problem with the lgbtq. They think they have the right to establish who can say this and who can't

Boy George was my first celebrity crush as a little child, I still love him
I SO would’ve crushed if I were an 80s teen. I saw him in an 1988 interview and goodness he was one of the cutest guys at that time
Has and always has had charisma . They may not agree but they are listening .
Same.
Yeah he's so handsome at the same time the cutest 🥰
I’m guessing you are female by the looks of your username. 👀
He was always amazing. Never cared what anyone else thought or said. Was rare then as well as now.
Yeas
He sounds like a man without conviction

I’ve been a fan since middle school , when there were posters in magazines and buttons of him that you pin on your shirt. Those were the days 😊

What a beautiful soul Boy George is. Discouraging violence and promoting individuality.
REAL MEN AREN'T AFRAID TO KEEP IT REAL.
This message is just as important for kids now as it was back then, as always. Positive vibes. Thank you.

Boy George is very much gay as a matter of fact he dated one of his band members for a while
That not only made sense then, but it makes sense still today, especially in this more troubled era. Boy George was as rational as he had talent.☺👏😎
Boy george is a great soul

I know too many "men" who are responsible for killing or ruining other people, especially and usually the weaker ones. and they call themselves men.
